Don't get me wrong; I love the Duke, but its a bit too much for daily riding. Those short gears, heating issues and yet-not-so-great-quality parts and spares would keep me away from the Duke.
Also, it wold have a better sound signature and cost me less upfront.

I'm sure there are many people who think likewise.
I just called up the TVS dealer at HSR. Whereas all the bikes mentioned above were about to be sold when launched, the RTR200 would be available for sale from 20 APR. Four years to design and develop and 4 months to sell. And why quote ex-showroom Delhi prices for a bike launched in Madras/Chennai? The 200 RTR is dearer by 1700 (ex-showroom I know) over the 180. Why would anyone buy the vibey 180?

Going by newspaper reports, I cannot see what BMW helped TVS with. Yamaha's M15 launch this summer, though pricier, might spoil the party.
Also why are bikes being launched in Indonesia when India / China is the bigger market? I don't get it. Are Indonesian women prettier ?

These are welcome changes from the review :
    1. "The Apache even comes with a tuned exhaust pipe and a dual catalytic converter that allows it to meet emission standards that shall come into force some 2 years from now." So is it BS5 compliant already? If my memory serves me right, bikes being sold from Apr 2016 need to comply.
    2. Good seating ergonomics
    3. "the exceptional smoothness of the engine right till its 10000 rpm redline". Nice.

Going by the resale values of the 390 vs the 200, it also makes me wonder if owners realise that the Metzellers are needed to get optimum performance from the more powerful 390 and nothing less would do. I can't explain why there are so many 390s for sale between 1.4-1.7 lakhs whereas the 200s sell for above 1.2 lakhs.

MSlaz launch? Source please (Theres no news about it even being in the AutoExpo although I will remain optimistic about it)

BMW did not help TVS with anything in the development of the RTR200. They are helping them with the development of the TVS version of G310R

Pricing is decent but then again TVS will lose out in the performance domain which is the core requirement of this segment. TVS might justify themselves by saying that the torque curve is sufficient for daily city rides but then they are shying away from the very meaning of the name RTR as termed by them.

TVS needs to come out of their cocoon and do something radical otherwise they will get stuck in providing edgy bits here and there and not on actual on-road performance.

Victor on the other hand without any fanfare has spot-on pricing/features/3V tech etc. This bike will cut the cheese for TVS but they have to pull up their socks for RTR series othewise it will be a major downhill road for them despite their alliance with BMW.

Even though we can predict alot with tech specs on paper, only post market surveillance can answer your query. Going by the reports, deliveries will start in April and you need atleast 3months after that to analyse which is the best among all in the current 200cc category( including rtr200 ), but by then there might be another launch. If you wait, you will keep waiting. Don't go by the best in market theory, go by what is best for you

On the flip side, there are rumours that 200NS Fi launch is purposely delayed to price it more aggressively than RTR200.

I am Skeptical about pricing. RTR200 with Fi+ABS+Pirelli might just be shy of 1.5L OTR, for which RS200 still is VFM(and a better bet over RTR200 for touring + commuting) in my opinion. Btw RS200 has a sensor for ABS at the rear wheel, but don't know if dual channel ABS can be provided in the future.

I am eagerly awaiting a comparo/shootout review by our famed auto journalists.

And why not? Is the bike not going to be sold in Delhi? xBhp is based in Delhi, so maybe its they who did it?

And where did you extract this 1700 Rs figure from? A180 is Rs. 78174. >source TVS Apache RTR Series | Price Details <
                The A200 is 88990 (89K). The difference is 11K.

I see no reason for your cribbing here. Its not as if the A200 is launched there and not here. Also the latter part of your sentence is blatantly sexist and borderline derogatory.

Indonesia is a step-thru market. Cars are prohibitively expensive for cars. So anyone who wants to upgrade from a car gets a motorcycle. Thats why all the "sporty" bikes are launched there. Commuters, not so much. Indonesia has a 250cc limit, and thats why even the big brands like kawasaki sells the Ninja 250 there, and the 300 everywhere else.

The used 390s price is perfect IMO. I, though, do wonder why the 200s sell for that much.

It will be around 1.2 OTR. And it can be a nice tourer too. We got our underbelly part hurt 3 times due to lower ground clearence in RS. Apache 200 has better GC than already better A180. And the MAIN STAND lol.

To me, the killer combination would be AS200 with Fi @ ~1.25OTR. Will create a storm amongst 200cc's.
But, Bajaj would not do it as it would byte into the sales of RS200. It would be "apne pair pe kulhadi marna".

You are right about the fi part. Frankly speaking , RS and NS speak for themselves (they literally mean thier name)AS , well not so much. Its obviously about different opinions. AS has nothing special about it , nothing which says its adventurous. I like the front part, reminds me of hyperstrada, but well nothing like so.

For now , in INDIA only carburated varient has been announced at 88k. Other prices are just speculation. Though tvs confirmed FI and ABS models soon.

Are u sure?? According to the post on Bike advice website, the bike will be launched right away in the tier 1 cities. It's the rest of the cities that will slowly get it one by one and by April countrywide.

                              Base: Carb + tvs tyres
Highest variant: FI + pirelli +abs
Abs not available at launch but u can choose among the engine and tyre options. Mix and match gives the rest of the variants.
