Well you should be proud enough already - this bike comes from an assembly line constituting entirely of women workforce. So, even if the emblem isn't from INS Vikrant, I'm equally proud.

On the flip side, if anything goes wrong with the bike, people are gonna mutter "woman power". Kind of like the Anushka effect in cricket. [emoji6]

R15 or cbr will still find takers cause Japanese reliability and quality, nimble handling and of course full fairing. thus bike is meant for enthusiasts and for them r15 offers what dominar cant replicate. ppl getting for looks will be much better served with r15 version 2.
Sir , it would be better if you stay with your R15 V2 - it is a marvellous machine , and secondly in the coming year we might have R15V3 which will be a good upgrade over V2 . And secondly which everyone is tending to forget or not mentioning " the despicable Service Station " , if we buy the 400 and if we by any chance face any problems then the service station might ruin the bike completely and this type of bikes are not meant to be serviced outside the SS . And as you have stated the quality of everything is quite high with Yam and HON which lacks with Bajaj(sometimes). Better to stick with R15V2 !

mine is a version 1 and its getting old now, around 6 yrs. so will be in market for new bike. not in a hurry cause r15 is still in great condition. also would be hasty if i bought something right away. 2017 is turning out to be exciting year. want all makers to show their hands then decide.

having test ridden dominar, only concern i have is reliability and quality of service. otherwise bike is worth a purchase.

What do you guys expect the mileage of the bike gonna be? I am planning to upgrade from my 4yr old P150 DTSi.. Can we expect mileage in the range of a RE 350cc? I had my eyes set on CRB250, but for a budget of 1.6lacs, I can't afford it.. Had planned on Thunderbird, but riding my dad's classic 350 had opened me up to few drawbacks of RE engines.. Open to any other suggestions on a bike within 1.6 lacs..

Thunderbird and classic are different - so you can't compare them both. I myself have TB350 and have driven the CL before buying TB . It's a different all together motorcycle.

Coming to the point the mileage will be around 35-38 kmpl(min to max) and the first will 30 to 35 kmpl before the 1st service after that if the guys at bajaj did a good service then the mileage will rise - but all depends upon the rider and the road he/she is riding on our famous traffic/pot ridden roads. In my opinion wait for a while before anyone buys and check the xbhp dominor ownership thread where the exact kmpl will be provided .
Overall should be around 35-40 kmpl.

On your ride of 6yrs ! It is time you should upgrade or better buy Kawasaki 300 or the R15v2 or wait for V3 . You are coming from yamaha family its better to stick with the confidence of Yamaha . I being myself RE owner am sticking to that particular motorcycle company[I am in love with TB350 coming from Karizma and RS 200] . I personally won't vouch for Bajaj . • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Launched at 1.36 Lakh with 35Ps and 35Nm!

Today I took Test drive of Dominar in two places in bangalore. 1. Amba bajaj bommanahalli and Khivraj near kasturba nagar.
Just my test rider experience which may help people who decide to buy dominar or even to set the expectations from this bike.

I own pulsar 200 NS and Duke 390 so the comparison will be mostly with these two bikes only. So duke haters dont hate me as i am a fellow 200 NS owner as well..

                  Observations:
                  Good:
1.Bike's gears are far better than duke 390.. I can compare it with 200 NS gear..as in the gear slot in perfectly .. the feed back u get is nice.
2.Despite 182 kg weight(+60 kg rider and around same weight pillion) , bike is not feeling heavy. (NS 200 owners will know the heaviness in handlebar which is not there in Dominar at all, which is a good thing). I took a U turn easily but the turning radius is long.
3.Front brake is awesome just like 200 NS. it will stop where you want to be..back brake is just there i never felt the need for it.
4.Muscular looks. I love it.. especially the cherry color, blend in with the over all bikes design.
5.I felt the sound of the bike is comparable to 2 cylinder bikes. If anyone had seen and heard kawasaki er6n sound..it is similar to that.. i would say D400 sounds better than er6n please check Youtube
                  6. Was doing slow speed for some 3 minutes.. radiator fan never kicked in.. i guess the engine is cool.. if it was my Duke 390..it would have cried and called everyone for help.
                  7. Nice cruising machine i hope(i never got a chance to rider beyond 80kmph).. no need to always look for top speed because either you will see a pot hole/ nice road will come to an end or some idiot without indicator and mirrors will come on your way so eventually bike has to be slowed down.
I have duke 390 which is perfectly capable of doing 160-170 but i only once tried speeding 160 just for the sake i have duke..other than that i love to cruise on duke 390 between 100-130 which is a sweet spot for it.
                  8. Last on Good but not least.. Seats..going from duke 390 and 200 NS to Dominar is like going into Audi or BMW cabin.. seat is real highlight here.. we will never need to look for after market seats.. both rider and pillion seats are comfy and spacious.. though i felt rider seat is given extra cushioning and attention nice job

                  Not so Good:
                  1. Bike's acceleration is very linear and I felt its too slow.. My 200 NS pick up is awesome compared to this one(its just my feel)
                  2. Stock Horn is weak(but we can change it)
                  3. Gear indicator would have helped in many places but not a deal breaker considering the price.
                  4. Engine vibrates in and around 5000 RPM in any gear except 5th and 6th(test driven 2 bikes in 2 different places)..
                  5. Around 5000 RPM it made me feel like, thats the red line and there is no torque after that .. may be thats the nature of cruiser engine type or they are test drive bikes. somebody ripped the bike nicely..(just to compare duke 390 or even my 200 NS have super acceleration from low till red line.
                  6. engine doesnt knock in high gear and low speed like how the duke 390 does but i observed, it doesnt pull from high gears and low speeds. it takes some time for that.. simply the engine revs but hesitate to accelerate forward.. (if we see benelli 300 or any twins.. they will pull nicely from 5th / 6th gears even from 25kmph...(i think its due to duke's engine so same character even though it has got different state of tune).

considering the price/style/specs/technology, Dominar is a sure winner. Hands down
what else can we expect for 1.5 lakhs? ABS,370cc engine with advanced Liquid cooling, LED lights, Mass looking design, etc etc....

i see. so you had a bad experience with bajaj? brave of you to go for re after that

i think it can happen with any brand. with that said yamaha does make nice bikes. they better price upcoming fz250 competitively otherwise will be hard for them to compete. a 250 cc, not advanced tech like cbr250r, in 1.1-1.2 lac range from yamaha is very attractive proposition.

not manufacturing r3 in India is kinda stupid decision from yamaha. they are leaving money on table.

am surprised you found 200 rs to be faster than dominar. maybe top end not so good. but bottom and mid range are pretty quick. it shot past really quick i felt.

having test ridden dominar and extensively ridden pulsar 200ns i would say dominar is definitely quiet a bit faster. i would suggest that provided its reliable. so wait for some reports on ownership thread on xbhp. and dont bother with 220.

At 5000 RPM does the bike shake much? and I am a guy 5'6" ft tall. Does this bike suits tall guys?

That is what i am surprised with. I am not sure it has to do with the Weight of the bike + pillion who is from showroom or its the cruser bike character comparted to sporty character of 200 NS/RS..

May be its just my feel i got due to the smoothness of the engine compared to the rough grunt from NS.

Also No denying that more CC doesnt always mean more faster bike.. engine character makes the real difference like its sporty engine or cruiser.(200NS and duke 200 much faster than many 300 cc bikes like REs and Mojo. Mojo is having one of the best in class low mid range and its modern engine and equipment compared REs yet its not as fast as duke200/200NS). most guys will agree i guess.

No doubt that dominar can clock top speed more than 200 NS/RS.

Even no wonder if Dominar is having more top end speed than duke 390 as duke is stripped and dominar has somewhat clothed body which will help in handling wind blasts.

For example duke 200 speed is electronically controlled over 200 NS. duke speed is limited somewhere in 140 where as 200 NS will go beyond 150.

having test ridden dominar and extensively ridden pulsar 200ns i would say dominar is definitely quiet a bit faster. i would suggest that provided its reliable. so wait for some reports on ownership thread on xbhp. and dont bother with 220.

I saw so many youtube reviews dude..
They all said its silky smooth compared to duke 390.
Some people told its refined as twin cylinder bikes from japan.

I would say dominar is most refined bajaj bike ever and far ahead of KTMs in india. having duke 390 and 200 NS i can definitely tell that dominar is well refined and sound like twin cylinder(to my ears its as sweet as benelli tnt 300, its best sounding machine under 4 lak after benelli 300 and yamaha r3... not sure about others)

but definitely not the smoothest engine out there..it has vibrations in mid range around 5000 rpm

and to answer your question.. it doesnt shake or make you feel nervous.. what i meant is engine is little rough in and around 5000 rpm..its well built bike and feels like litre class naked bike as vikas rachmala told in his channel..

I am 5'10"" bike is just perfect for us.. only thing is 200 NS is having bit back set foot rest and duke 390 is more aggressive where they kept rider foot rest in the place of pillion foot rest but dominar is having proper up right posture.. so if you are someone from sports bike like yamaha r15,KTMs, etc.. then it a matter of getting used to.

One thing I would like to know..
At 5000 RPM does the bike shake much? and I am a guy 5'6" ft tall. Does this bike suits tall guys?

Coming to the point the mileage will be around 35-38 kmpl(min to max) and the first will 30 to 35 kmpl before the 1st service after that if the guys at bajaj did a good service then the mileage will rise - but all depends upon the rider and the road he/she is riding on our famous traffic/pot ridden roads. In my opinion wait for a while before anyone buys and check the xbhp dominor ownership thread where the exact kmpl will be provided .
Overall should be around 35-40 kmpl.

I know they are different in terms of looks and functionality. But I am talking in terms of its heart, both have same engines, right? I always felt Classic 350 struggles to cruise comfortably beyond 80kmph, had a lot of vibrations near 90kmph (haven't crossed that mark). And its just not about speed, mileage drops too, a lot. I frequently travel between Mysore and Bangalore, was getting back 36-38kmpl, tried pushing it to 85-90kmph, got 30kmpl.. I mean, increase in 5-10kmph speed reduces 5kmpl.. That's ridiculous.. I need a good bike which can do 80-100 without struggle (don't care about top speed or acceleration much), without feeling that it is running out of breath, and for that, I found that RE 350s are not fit.. I had rather keep my Pulsar 150.. So I am closely following this thread, the price point piqued my interest..

P.S.: RE fans, please don't flag this down. I was and am still a RE fan, absolutely in love with Thunderbird, unfortunately, neither do I have budget to buy nor maintain a 500cc bike..

P.P.S.: Planning to take a test ride here in Mysore this weekend, along with RE Himalayan as friends are forcing me to consider that too, will post an update after test ride.

Ok your statement for the CL 350 is absolutely correct - I did the TD before buying and yes I was taken back by the 80-90 range . But when I did the TB350 TD I felt it awsome . I am currently ridding the TB and that too in 100-110 range (not all day) but for 50 km ride 100-110 kmph is OK . I don't felt the bad vibes of the Classic - EVEN THEIR ENGINES ARE SAME ! I wanted to buy the CL but for the vibes at 80-90 i withdrew but still I wanted a RE so i TD the TB350 and she won my heart . In my case I might be the luckiest RE GUY EVER because I don't have the vibes.

P.S - Stock oil and all the services are done by the SVC - and the SVC are the best in best in my area
P.S - Can't comment on other RE bikes but being able to drive at 100-110 kmph on a RE is not a matter of joke !

And about the mileage you are saying I am getting a constant 44-45 kmpl out of the 19ltr tank (1 lt is for the backup petrol) - so you can calculate the actual KM I can ride on a 19 ltr tank where 44 kmpl is being given - Even If I speed up then too the mileage hovers at 40-42 so by that - 42x19 ltr = 798 km range !!!! which is huge even greater than the dominar mileage range !

I have taken TB350 test ride when I went to book Classic for my dad, and loved it right there. That was the reason why I planned on getting it from a year, but because I now have first hand experience with RE350 engine in Classic (have taken it off my dad's hand and have been riding it for nearly 3 months now), am not so sure now.. I will try to find a person who owns one near me and try a proper test ride, not the 2-3km given by showroom and re consider my decision again. But being a guy who settled for TB350 because I can't afford a CBR250, Dominar is like a little gift from Bajaj to move back to the sports cruiser segment. Anyway, not planning on buying anytime before April, so still got nearly 4months to come to a proper informed decision.

i think it can happen with any brand. with that said yamaha does make nice bikes. they better price upcoming fz250 competitively otherwise will be hard for them to compete. a 250 cc, not advanced tech like cbr250r, in 1.1-1.2 lac range from yamaha is very attractive proposition.

not manufacturing r3 in India is kinda stupid decision from yamaha. they are leaving money on table.

In my opinion [and not going the RE vs BAJ segment] - As you are waiting till April you should by this time save some money so that you might buy a better cruiser - maybe the reliable HONDA CBR250R or RE TB 500 or Mahindra MOJO - Both by saving your money till April will help you to be a Real cruiser - I don't trust Bajaj - If you want to hear the reason then PM me as the MOD will delete the RE vs BAJ talks !
