Just kidding.
Features... with Bajaj you cant expect decrease in features drastically. just FI has been replaced with Carb. Rest remains same.

I have just taken easily over half n hour reading from page 1 till here!
And what I have seen so far is which brand is better than which brand and which bike is better than which bike! hehehe...
If Bajaj has really taken the FI out of their upcoming new P220, I don't know if it's good or bad, personally I would love for the FI to remain there! I love moving on with the technology. Logically, as many know here, if the emission norms are going to be firmer come 2010, then this FI-less new P220 might again see an upgrade very soon (which some people tend to dislike) to comply with future emission norms! Now having an FI will be easier to come terms with it. Let's see!
Personally I would love to see atleast all the bikes with 150cc and above to adopt FI sooner or later Its just like 2-strokers had their time, and that time is long gone. SAD? may be! but that's how it goes. Similarly their might be a time soon when most will have to go for FI, and for good and different reasons which a customer might not easily understand!!!
Some people say that it's good for P220 to go carb because it's easy to tune carb for performance. But friends, how many do u think perform effective modifications on their bikes for more performance? Very less. There are more people who like to keep their bikes stock, on xbhp too. I would! SO I would prefer a FI bike, because of its overall advantages on efficient engine performance!
So right now I have mixed feelings about this news that the upcoming new P220 might have carb! Infact, I am slightly more on the disappointment side!
Upgrades are meant to make the product better. I don't know how bajaj thinks of making the P220 better by removing the FI unit!!! In real world, FI definitely has advantages in different riding conditions over carb! So I don't know what they are trying to do here!! If keeping cost of P220 down is their main aim for making the P220 carb, then I am not happy. I would be happier that Bajaj improves the same FI-ed P220 and better make it expensive!!!
I'll wait and see.

Introduction of DTSI in Pulsar UG I led to the elimination of catcon in the silencer. DTSI was that effective. Now, the catcon can be put back like it was in case of P150/180 Classic and they can easily meet emission norms! So, FI won't be needed in Bajaj DTSI bikes for a few more years!Originally posted by Satellite.kidIf Bajaj has really taken the FI out of their upcoming new P220, I don't know if it's good or bad, personally I would love for the FI to remain there! then there have to be some very serious cuts in features. something has to give. there simply is no free lunch.

My take on this one
My take on this one
This competition spirit among manufactures is good for the industry and consumers, but sales will be on the basis of quality of the product, support and parts availability. (for e.g.: Yamaha RX series is still a hot favorite among 2 S fans not only because it is a pocket rocket but also because of the ready availability OE spares and support, same reason why Shogun is so rare being such a beautiful machine)
Yamaha bikes are just 150 cc, we can’t compare with 220 cc. If Yamaha launch a 220 cc with same tech as R15 technically it will make > 25 bhp and will be doing > 180 km/hr ?????
Price @ 70k is interesting; Bajaj did some killer pricing tactics when they reintroduced KB125 as RTZ in the late 80.s.
By removing FI they are aiming on practicability and business than imageLast edited by satishg; 06-17-2009, 03:46 PM.

so thats what...the projector headlamps might have to go too. and probably some other smaller bits and pieces.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostWell, I can tell you about 150/180. I have the parts catalog and not that many parts are different. Even then these parts are priced similarly. So, it is not that the bikes have to be priced that higher. 3k difference is ok. P220 had the huge price diff with P200 only due to the FI as well as projector headlamps. Now, they can be priced similarly.
So, no one is ripped off and no Bajaj is not running a charity - it is providing VFM products.
which is what i said to begin with - that there were be serious differences with the current p220 in terms of feature list if the new one has to be priced at 70K odd levels.

so which one is it ??

Payeng this is some good info, why dont you make a dedicated thread of this!Originally posted by payeng View PostSince Joel has quoted some 0-60, 0-100 figures comparing the P220 and R15, let me also post a few more Official Figures with the source quoted.
Guys are at liberty to pull out old issues or check the sites of those publications, to check its veracity (if possible please update the "NA" timings for us..) and point out if there is any discrepancy.
Overdrive:
0-60 kmph: P220- 4.1 secs, R15- 4.9 secs
0-100 kmph: P220- 11.1 secs, R15- 13.2 secs
Autocar India:
0-60 kmph: P220- 4.42 secs, R15- 5.02 secs
0-100 kmph: P220- 13.27 secs, R15- (NA)
Bike India:
0-60 kmph: P220- 4.84 secs, R15- 5.12 secs
0-100 kmph: P220- 13.05 secs, R15- (NA)
Zigwheels:
0-60 kmph: P220- 4.76 secs, R15- 4.5 secs
0-100 kmph: P220- 12.92 secs, R15- (NA)
It will help a lot of us, it might get lost in this thread.
People can post 'official' times and the times measured by own using different tools etc!

then there have to be some very serious cuts in features. something has to give. there simply is no free lunch.
plus that renders the p200 without a justifiable premise really, considering that the p180 ug4 has been launched and keeping in mind its price point as well.

i would like to ask people that if this is a news thread
then it should be just readable and no posts allowed
i mean then what to talk on the news thread
ohh P220 is being launched hurray,,,, bas over
definitely if a bike is launched
people will talk about it .... its specifications , its performance , its mileage....etc
then how on earth this becomes OT
can someone tell whats to be done in a news thread here ?
sometimes things and talks become strange outta reason just for the sake of it

Official 0-60 & 0-100 figures.

The same guy on the P220 did a best of 13.42secs on the V-box.
0-60 - R15 stock - 4.21secs
0-60 - P220 stock - 4.35secs
Its very closely matched and the R15 manages to beat it by a fraction, which will vary on street conditions. So street racing is not the way a vehicle is evaluated.

(The P220 here is obviously the Fuel Injected DTS-Fi)
