It doesn't need to. It is serving the needs of most Indian's flawlessly. So many companies tried to conquer the safe fortress that Hero Honda have built around that 97 cc engine but none of the campaigns could last for more than 2 years - forget about giving stiff competition.

Now, how ever old it is, when it is serving the purpose better than anything & everything else available, why should it retire? This is not what I say. This is what the sales figures say. Time and again. Month after month. Year after year.

In short, NO, that engine can't retire. There's no able replacement for that yet.

I wish there'd be a day when someone can crack that fortress with another 100 cc engine and that would happen while I can still ride a bike

Till the 100 cc bike fixation of our bikers remains, increase in BHPs and KMPHs would be a painfully slow process... and that's exactly the reason for the frustration of most xBhpians on these 100cc commuters.

Nevertheless lets hope that Bajaj manages to sell even more Discover DTS-Si models month after month... so that the profit can be utilized to develop exciting models with more BHPs and KMPHs.

          So true....

Moreover, I heard they are slated to launch a 75cc engine very soon....

Anyways, coming back to the topic, a commendable effort from Bajaj

I just hope that one day they would improve ther service also....

Majority rules!!! There are increases in BHP and KMPH but they are slowly and they must be slow when seen the road sense of we indians.

A low cost 75cc bike will be a good idea, more and more people will cherish the dreams of owning/riding a bike. A well designed fuel efficient 75cc bike will enable '000s of people to commute by using lesser fuel. 50cc 4S fuel efficient mopeds/scooters will also be a good idea.

Honda and other manufacturers churns out 70cc moped-motorcycles in south east asian as well as neighbouring pakistan.100cc bikes are not popular in these countries.mostly step-thru mopeds which looks like hero honda street and scooties are popular in south east asian countries in General.(Is what I understand).

I am happy that in India ,atleast 100cc bikes and above are available.

The Honda Cub which uses this same 50cc engine delivers 146 kmpl under standard conditions.
