  • So does all this mean that there is no single cylinder 250 coming from Honda which can perform remotely close to the Kwacker 250?
I had some hopes on it, but was upset when I read competition to ZMR!

    • Competition to ZMR may also be a good news, heck at worst it may also be a ploy considering that no one thought that Honda would bring something like Twister, especially after thier spat with HH about lower segment bikes!

True. CB Twister has ignited my hopes in a good way that Honda might pull out some surprise from it's sleeves.

Hope they launch something this year. And i sincerely pray it to be a different motor from the ZMA.I would absolutely hate if they bring a retuned version of ZMA/R.

..unless they pump the power figures to 20ps+ levels."High Hopes!!"

          • Honda is claiming an output of 43.3hp @ 11,000rpm with maximum torque arriving at 8,000rpm and peaking at 29.3Nm for the CRF250R but that's a different thing that it runs at a very high compression ratio of 13.2:1.

            Engine Type: 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke
            Bore and Stroke: 76.8mm x 53.8mm
            Compression ratio: 13.2:1
            Claimed Power: 32.4kW @ 11,000rpm (43.3hp @ 13,000rpm)
            Claimed Torque: 29.3Nm @ 8,000rpm
Valve Train: Unicam, four-valve; 30.5mm intake, titanium; 25mm exhaust, steel
            Induction: PGM-FI, 50mm throttle body
Ignition: Full transistor with electronic advance
            Staring: Kick
            Transmission: Close-ratio five-speed

...But those are specs of a motocross bike!!

These specs seem mighty impressive.. but i have 2 major doubts.. any1 pl clarify..
                  1. The Ninja makes 33hp for the 250cc engine at almost same rpm, how come this difference of near 10hp in the honda..?
                  2. The European restriction for 250cc bikes is 33hp.. so, in which market does this honda sell..?

                  Satyen Bhai.. pl clarify..

Its probably from the CRF 230 "L" which is a Dual Purpose motorcycle. CRF 230"F" is a motocross bike.

Motocross motorcycles are not street legal and cannot be used on public roads.. since they do not have to adhere to pollution norms, they are tuned for out and out performance. On the other hand a Dual Purpose motorcycle has to comply with pollution norms. Hence they its engines have to be tuned to comply with pollution norms.

Ans 1: Motocross bikes like the CRF250R are not street legal.

Ans 2: The 33 Ps restriction (for Europe) is not limited by engine cc (unlike the first 15 Ps and 125 cc restriction).
Many buy 500-600 cc bikes with "Restrictor kits" which limit the max power to 33 Ps. And when they graduate to the level of their license, they just remove the restrictor kits.

Ans "2" is another reason why Yamaha and Honda have put the YZF 125 and the CBF 125 (our very own CBF Stunner PGMFi) respectively for the European market instead of a 250 cc, twin cylinder (Ninja 250R competitor) motorcycle.. and yes, these 125 cc's sell well in Europe (thanks to the licensing laws).

                        • the best thing honda could do right now is to launch the cbr 150. it will ,no doubt, sell like hot cakes. the r15 sales could take a beating as well.
superbikes are the biggest blunders on indian roads.

Thanks 4 the clarification Payeng.. Another doubt.. Especially me being an ardent Bajaj Fan.. Any chances of a 4-Valve head on a 250-ish Bajaj in the future..? or even a 4 Valve 220 FI..?

                            • one or more erratic news now and then................and none of them crosses the threshold of 230cc,...........Man I am fed up,from now on I have decided to watch speculation silently, focus on modding the Glorious olds and save greatly and buy straight away the Hayabusa. It beats all cc wise speculations hands down, better save myself for the ultimate rather than wasting it all on petty cc risers.
