  • Brazilian's are enjoying 250's from HONDA's YAMAHA's from a very long time.
They're lucky, we've to feast our eyes with new models in 100-150 CC categories only.

You have no idea what the Brazilians get. Just look up the figures. I had a close door meeting with some manufacturers a few days ago and I was privy to some statistics about Brazil. They are mind-blowing. 500CC+ bike sales are in excess of 20,000 a year. So you see, we are nowhere in that league. We lag way behind. Maybe 10 years, maybe more. Purely spoken, India does not have a biker mindset. It is a different "kind" of country. So for a genuine enthusiast, we have to remain content with 150cc bikes and that is where we will stick our discussion.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

I hope RE brings down their waiting period from 5-6 months to a month or so. 5 months is way too much to wait for a bike, frustrating least to say. Its so easy to move on to P220 because of this waiting period from RE.

Some of the reasons would be:

-Government's over-protective measures to protect economy/local players i.e imposing high import duty.
            -HH's dominance in the market.
-Late entry of Indian Manufacturers in Motorcycle segment.
-Price/Value conscious Indian consumer is afraid to experiment on new products. Tried-and-tested became the buzzword.

              I think:
              - mindset
              - road conditions w/ or w/o traffic
              - import duties
seem to be the biggest reasons

              • but fact remains ....

we have some of worlds largest and most profitable bike makers in india.

fuel prices racing to the sky's ,.. one should really appreciate the true value for money bikes from indian manufactures.

in nxt 5 yrs .. entire biking scenario will change all over the world, as most of developed countries will move towards lower capacity most fuel efficient bikes while we indian may see higher capacity [<1000CC] bikes

Sigh! Wish someday a cousin in the U.S. is raving on an online forum about his 'cousin back in India who got the latest 20xx CBR1000rr and sent him photos....'

But seriously, to sum it up, manufacturers are taking baby steps to larger displacement motorcycles.

A funny thing I noticed, while the other Japs have brought in top-of-the-line CBUs, Kawasaki is running the other way, bringing in treat-worthy CBUs (under FTA of course) and perhaps a CKD as well! Not bad I'd say, just how much of patience these guys will have is going to be tested. If homologation takes ages, we're the losers again...
                  You get the point?? :D

                  • So the day we'll have 250's, 600's, 650's,1000's in our streets in every form is still years away.

Till then lets "enjoy" the million versions of bikes raging from 100-150CC'c.

                        • 250 cc bikes are soon going to revolutionise the indian markets. a couple of years back did any body expect yamaha to come up with the liquid cooled 4 valve r15 that can hit 140+ with a 150cc motor?but they did. just be optimistic there might be a surprise(finally) around the corner.
superbikes are the biggest blunders on indian roads.

                          • Why the 800cc rule???

My understanding has always been that import duties are levied to protect the domestic manufacturers. There is no domestic manufacturer which seems capable of/is interested in producing motorcycles higher than 500cc capacity. Why does the government then have the 800cc rule?

Many of us would love to get the R6's and the V Stroms and many of us may even be able to afford it, unlike the R1's and the Intruders.

IMO the govt thinks that by keeping imported products costly.. manufacturers might be forced to make high end products in the country itself...

                              • If the news abt the rtr 250 is true then i would surely go for it rather than a bajaj 250. One reason it will be race track tested which is vital for a freakkin 'PERFORMANCE BIKE' and the other is quality concerns as I am sure the bajaj will start springin up all sorts of problems after a few thousand KMs. I guess the comparison of cost of spares from either manufacturers tells the whole story.
