    PS: isnt the monster1100 supposed to be the one with the black body + red chassis combination?

      I agree about these bikes being a marvel of engineering to put it's power in perspective 87bhp which is what most Indian cars have on approx 200Kgs in comparison to a cars weight of approx 1250Kgs.

      PS: I tried 97 Octane and the performance is unbelievable.

          wow... simple, short and brilliant. I love your spirit and No-BS attitude. i completely agree that we as a biker (even xbhpians including me) have lot to learn from each other and share. i have never been to a xbhp g2g but i hope that what happens every weekends.

            hi guys,
            I received a phone call from TamilNadu today. Totally forgot the person's name. He called me to verbally ask me about the monster. Helped him out. He told me that he found me here on Xbhp. Seems to be all set to book his monster from bangalore. Whoever you are out there..if you can read this, do reply here and don't forget to post pictures and ride impressions from tamilnadu. best of luck and how I envy you Chennai boys for having a race track so nearby. I will come there someday...no doubt..

                Hi guys,

                So while waiting for an image sequence to finish importing into Flame, thought I'll jot down a few thoughts about the 796 for those who are looking at this specific bike as a future purchase or just general curious readers. My primary usage of the 796 is for commuting everyday to office or to various locations for shoots that require my supervision. Before I locked down to the 796, I was considering the honda CB1000R and almost bought the Yamaha FZN1. The main reasons for choosing the 796 are as follows:

                1) Weight
                I like light vehicles. I personally feel much more comfortable riding a bike I can handle in the event of a tip over.

                2) Pure faith in the various reviews I read online.
                I'm in the field of post production and I've helped sell plenty of products and can see through a lot of hype and who-ha..sort of..it's a constant battle..I read quite a few reviews across various websites and forums and realized that many people were still in the impression that the monster requires high maintainence. To sum it up...it's old news..

                3) Had to get over the Ducati acquisition dream.
                I've always been into naked bikes. But I have had experience with scooters and maxi-scooters alike...I used to commute to work on a
                2008 SYM GTS 200 Maxi Scooter. So much fun. I wonder when maxi-scooters are gonna enter the Indian market. I will definitely lineup for one. Anyway the Monster has always been the poster boy for naked bikes and still is considered the best naked out there. Highly arguable to many a riders, but what the hell..

                So that pretty much sums up the reasons for my purchase. In the end each person has different environments, desires, attractions and influences. There is no generic advice that applies across the board.

                I do have few pointers for the super-excited, over-enthusiastic potential ducatisti.

                In case you were wondering about heat under the family jewels :
                it does exist..it will bother you if you are stuck in traffic forever (choose the route and time of your commute wisely). It will not go away unless you keep the RPM at 3k and above. Keep the 796 moving and you will be fine. But the heat will not take the joy away from your ride.



                The headlight "always on" function will keep you safe from people who fail to see you in their rear view mirror. Spread the word. It's not a defect. Don't embarrass yourself by telling the rider that the headlight is on with the universally accepted boob-pressing hand gesture. We know you mean well though.

                P.S. I did test ride the hypermotard 1100. All the reviews are true. Total fun bike.

I love looking at Harleys on the same road, as I ride my 796. I feel a lot of admiration and attention from quite a few bikers on the mean streets of bombay but also get that mean touch of envy from some commuters. I have this theory about any kind of possession. I was a regular guy before I bought the Comet. I suddenly changed when I started riding the 250GT. A strange sense of arrogance creeping in. As if I own the road. Did I own the road? In hindsight, far from it. The concept owned me. The concept of this rebellious biking culture and the power between by legs which allows me to take on any other commuter class vehicle was far from wise and mature. It's a concept which every person here might relate with. I have observed a strange arrogance in certain people about owning certain things. May it be a car or a bike or any such worldly possessions. Just because we payed and bought a high quality motorcycle, doesn't mean we actually own it. There is no need to have this vague arrogance about it. If anything, it means to be humbled in the presence of such a skillfully made machine and be inspired by it workmanship. These machines stand for something to me. Uncompromising quality. I believe such a trait exists in local companies too. Its just years behind in development. I hate talking shit about Indian companies. It's not cool anymore. I have reached an age where I have realized how much we all are part of the problem.
                    Anyway, my point is, the next time you see a fellow biker, smile. Wave your hand. Share a positive mature conversation. **** the lame talk of maintainence and mileage. Talk about ride quality. Feelings. Safety. Helmets, gloves, boots. Stuff that matter. And if you see me on the road, smile at me and wave. Your love will be reciprocated. I promise

                      This reply was for an inquisitive soul from Kolkata..might help other folk too..so consider it a "Public service message"..be aware..it has been copied and pasted here Strictly not to be taken out of context (whatever that means)

                      1) Ducati tall gearing issue:

                      Your friend has pointed out a good point. Like I mentioned in the previous post, If you keep the bike moving and above 3k rpm, you are fine...the heat goes away. But there is an after market solution for the said tall gearing which I have read about on ducatimonster.org. People suggest switching to a 14t lighten front sprocket. But I am gonna stick to stock specs and work around this with sheer skill and timing of commute.

                      2) Ducati after-sales issue:
                      If you have a ducati dealership in Kolkata, buy the bike straight up. They will handle your servicing. If you plan to buy from another city, it's doable but your in for that extra effort to take your bike for a long road trip for servicing. But like I said, doable.

                      3) Yamaha fixation issue:
                      You've mentioned the fazer many times in your PM. Do not go for a Monster with expectation of a smooth ride all the time. It is an aggressive machine. Do not get pulled in by looks/glamour. You can't see shit when you are riding it. I doubt you are paying your hard earned money, so other people can look at it and say wow. All that matters is you. Do what your heart tells you to. Look through the hype and listen to that little voice inside. If it tells you Yamaha, it might help you in the long run to stick with the heart. The FZ1 is beautiful machine. I would be riding it if I could handle the weight.

                        Since you are quite eloquent with words and have ridden the monster and HM, which would you prefer? Monster 796 or HM 796? Why?

                            I guess you are the best person to ask this question as you are riding one of the worlds best V-twin engine bike. I have read that V-twin have more vibes compared to inline 4 engines , Can you please share your riding experience with ducati at higher RPM's ( in terms of vibes ).Are the vibrations at higher rpm's irritating or they are just fine.Also how is the V-twin vibes at idle (is it comparable/similar to our indian bullets) and how is the vibes compared to our indian made bikes such as Pulsars and rtr's.

                              The hypermotard is a drifter's dream come true...the monster is designed as a commuter vehicle.
                              As of today I'm a commuter...If I was into drifting, I would have bought the Hypermotard. To each his own. I unintentionally hit a drift on the Hypermotard on the way back to the showroom. Loved it. Hence I call it a fun bike.
