    Firstly, 18k is an estimate and not actuals. My first service estimate was given as 8~9k and it turned out to be less than 7k.

    Agree that most of the jobs can be done yourself, but how about checking and adjusting the valve clearances? Unlike the japs, Ducati motorcycles require valve checks and adjustments at lesser intervals. And unless I'm trained by Ducati engineers themselves, am not going to touch the valves or any of their mumbo jumbo parts. I agree that most of it can be done by oneself, but please also remember that Ducati has special tools for opening/adjusting/fixing most of the components. So for DIY, one has to again invest in these so called special tools.

    I would be interested to know how much the Jap bikes cost for servicing and the split as well. And the intervals for valve checks and timing belt checks and replacement. And how about the BMWs and the Triumphs?

    Only then can we analyze if they are ripping and if they are, by how much...

    • I came across hard on that estimate, sorry about that. It is that except for the throttle sync, valve clearance and battery voltage check, I did not see anything substantial which would cost so much - that kind of money is generally spent on a full service of german cars with names starting with either M or B.

        +1 This is exactly why i was so taken aback. Coz 18k is definetly a huge amount for the work mentioned. something around 12k wouldnt have been surprising at all though. Are you sure there is nothing more to be done apart from the stuff that you posted above?

            Understand mate . My first reaction was also the same but normally they tend to shoot up the number just so that we are mentally prepared. And co-incidentally, the Ducati Bengaluru CEO who has a 7-series was also quoting the same...the monster maintenance and servicing is very similar to a 3-series

            We will never know until its actually done. But I guess it should not be far from what you've quoted...may be an additional 2K.

                    • Man i can relate to that ! the FZ also finished first service and i was keen on finding out wat lay beyond 6 k rpm since after first service i can take it to 7 or 8 k and man it was an expirence out of this world !! i dared not touch 8k in the first gear so took it to 4k slotted second and wacked the throttle and well the second gear (with the torque produced a little early) feels like the first gear ! tht needle and jumped so fast to 7 k and im already seeing triple digits !! quick shift to third and im doing 130 ish and thts it caught up with traffic and slowed down ! the engine note changes after 6k rpm apprently and it was loud ! kind felt those inline 4s are sounding like moto gp bike hehe ! was an awosum feeling, but its annoying at the fz is a high reving bike ! produces al its power @ 11k rpm i wonder the how the inline 4s sound at tht rpm would be orgasmic !

                      I can bet the twins sound awosum !! havent heard them in real but waiting to find out

                        • Wow guys, some brilliant biker experiences written down. Now this is what it's all about...keep it coming guys..love reading about this aspect of biking. All our bikes are capable of giving us such a rush and it is indeed hard to curb ones desire to push the limits. These machines provide such new experiences, every time one twists the throttle..worth every single rupee spent. :-)

                          • Next time clip 3 rd gear when you hit 8k rpm in second gear and take it all the way to 10k, and hang tight , don't blame me for what happens next
                            drive safely... if not for you then for the sake of others!!

                              For those who are interested in the FE figures -

                              City --> 14~15 kmpl
                              Highways --> 19~20 kmpl

                              This is after 1600kms.

                              Am getting a paddock stand from the dealer for 10.5K. Has a few scratches and it belonged to a customer who sold off his bike. The original costs 17K. Do you think its a good deal?

                              • 10.5K for only the rear paddock stand or even for the front stand?

                                either way its expensive, I suggest if you get them fabricated you can wrap up both(front and rear) under 6-7K, you can check any of the Ducati forums for the stand dimensions
