  • Upgraded from 12 BHP to 72 BHP, please welcome the Kawasaki Ninja 650

Warning:- Some of you must have read the same thread on T-Bhp, so please ignore, this thread is for my XBHP bro's.

This thread had been pending for quite some time.

Yeah this upgrade was from a 2001 Suzuki Fiero to 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650.

    History :-

Around end of 2010 news came in that Honda was launching the CBR, I was glued to the Thai CBR forums for more and more info, finally booked the CBR in Jan 2011 hoping to take the delivery of the bike as soon as it was launched, but my elder brother had some other plans, he being a builder, believes a lot in Astrology, someone told him that the family should not buy a new vehicle till Nov 2011 and I had no other go but to wait, by the time November passed, I lost interest in the CBR, by that time the KTM was in news, but then that too did not excite me, so started looking at the Ninja 250.

Finally decided if I had to buy a bike it has to be a twin cylinder, the cost in Bangalore was 3.75 Lakhs when I last checked and then the Ninja 300 got launched, the waiting game was killing me, then one fine day me and my buddy were off to Chikmagalur on a bike trip and there it hit me why not the Ninja 650, discussed with my buddy and he too felt it made more sense to spend extra 2 Lakh and get the 650 over the 250.

I have to recall a person here who made my decision making a lot easier, @GSFerrari, he is the guy who has owned a couple of super bikes, he sold off his Yamaha MT01 and bought a Ninja 650, I still recall reading his words about how practical the 650 was. I have never spoken to him or even messaged him. A big thanks to him, also a big thanks to Narula on Team Bhp and off course our own Zimbly for answering all my queries regarding the bike.

    Hunt For the Bike:-

Receptionist :- "Sir you came to Mysore just to give the DD that too on a bike".
    Me :- Yeah.
Receptionist :- And you will be leaving immediately now to BLR.
Me :- Yeah, she thought I was crazy . I told her "You should allocate the Ninja to people like me, who love riding and love their bikes".

Sometime later in the week, I received a call from Balaji asking me if I could wait for the next lot of 650, I was like what is going on I have paid 3 lakhs and now you are telling me to wait. It seems two of his friends were interested in the 650 and he only had one bike, if he gave the bike to either of those guys the other would be unhappy hence he decided to alot the bike to me and somehow one these guys got to know about this and started pressuring him how he could do this when they had booked the bike before me. Hence his request to me to let go off this bike, I said no way I am not letting this bike go at any cost as I was sure no one knows when the next lot of bikes would arrive.

The following Sunday, I was at a restaurant with the family and I got a call from Balaji saying the bike is in transit and will be in Mysore in another 3 days and I was told to do the remaining payment immediately. That probably was the happiest day of my biking life.

    Mysore -> KR Nagar -> Chennraypatna -> Kunigal -> Nelmangala -> BLR

    Total distance around 250+ kms.

    Postives :-

    Negatives:-

    1. Weight: - move her from standstill, you will know you are moving 200+ kilos bike, but once on the move you forget everything.
    2. Headlights: - Intensity could have been better.
    3. Ground Clearance: - I have scraped twice already.

    Accessories :-

    I have bought the following
    1. R & G crash protectors
    2. R & G tank pad
    3. Zero Gravity Double bubble wind screen

All the above from Performance Racing.

Next on hit list, Morrimoto projector setup, will be ordering this one shortly.

@All :- Do not curse me for the Saree guard not being removed, since the registration is yet to be done, I cannot remove it.

I use the Fiero for my daily office commutes.

As of today, the bike has done 930 Kms, will give her for servicing shortly and get all the accessories fitted on her.

These snaps were from a ride I did yesterday 250+ kms. Even in runin I managed to do 120 kms in 100 mins. For the first time yesterday took her to 130, she flies. There are vibes between 4K rpm and 5.5k rpm, beyond that she is butter smooth. She can potter around 50 kph in 6th gear.

    All speeds in 6th gear.

    3k rpm - 70 kph
    4k rpm - 90 kph
    5k rpm - 110 kph
    6k rpm - 130 kph

As for FE she has been consistently delivering 20+.

With the Baby Ninja, the baby Ninja has the best brakes in business, in comparision the 650's brakes feel very ordinary.

The color on both the bikes is very different, the 650 has a metallic green color.

Check out the side stand of the 650 in comparison to the 250, it feels like a small stick .

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Congrats man. Great looking ride.
By far the most practical high performance bike for Indian roads.
You might be able to take care of scraping the bottom my tweaking the suspension a bit.

Congratulations on an excellent purchase. The bike looks stunning. Is this green different from the earlier 650? Looks a bit darker and more metallic but very nice. Any other colors available on this beauty?
Just flick the switch and twist my wrist
The beast comes alive, bringing me back to life
A tap to shift and flick of the wrist
The beast takes flight bringing me back to life
Kill the silence, tear apart the dark
The beast rips the road, hell yeah, i feel alive.

No, AFAIK this color is different to the 2011 model, I believe the color of the 2011 650 and present 250 is the same.

Hey bprags, Great to see a new ownership thread, its refreshing to read a full perspective on the bike you love from another's point of view. I still need to pick up the R&G frame sliders. planning on heading to Bombay sometime next week, will do the needful then. I agree on the headlight intensity being poor. its okay for city riding, but for speeds upwards of 80-90, its throw and reach are not confidence inspiring. I am hooked on to this thread as well. BTW, have u joined the kawasaki 650 owners group on facebook. Incase not, look it up. lot of info available there as well. Cheers and safe riding

Thanks! I had sent a add request to the 650 facebook group they havent responded yet and its been more than two weeks. For the headlights you should look at this Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (H1) - Complete Retrofit Kits from The Retrofit Source Inc

I will be ordering it shortly.

Many congratulations once again bprags. She sure looks hot in metallic green. Looking at the night pics, it seems the console back lit is bluish white in color. Is it?

Are you sure you want to add projectors? I think it will void your warranty and would it not be better to rather change the halogen bulb to something like Phillips Extreme vision or Osram Night breaker bulb for better vision at night?

The console light is exactly like the one seen in R15. It is whitish.
