Yep the N650 is perfect most of my needs, but I don't have a bank to break at the moment Need to upgrade my bank first, so that would take year or so more. Also cannot keep the N650 as a primary bike, so something like the Duke for now till I can pick up a N650 too.

Sure, I haven't been able to ride much because of family commitments, my hands are itching for a few more clicks and mile munching.

Thats the reason, I was suggesting him the 650, a person on the 650 facebook group completed 280 kms in 2 hours 30 mins in the night, by the way he has morimotto projectors on his bike so that definitely helped. I always surprise myself and others at the distance I can cover with this bike in a short time.

Exactly my case, I too cannot use the 650 as a primary bike, it is chick magnet the metallic green color attracts a lot of unwanted crowd. I too am looking at the 390, sshhhhh, my wife might read this . The other day a BMW 1000rr was parked near my bike on a highway, believe it or not, the 650 attracted more people than the mighty BMW.

Its been some time since I updated the thread, finally managed to fight with wife and do a small 250 kms ride.

The more I ride her the more I start respecting the bike. She has covered 2K kms and I have started blasting her, low end and mid range is where she excels, the power starts to taper off beyond 9K rpm. She does 190 kmph [speedo indicated at 9k rpm].

Ear plugs are a must when riding, else the rider will become deaf by the time he finishes his ride, I still havent brought ear plugs did a jugaad today by using cotton, I felt a lot comfortable with those in the ears.

I got ppf done on the tank last week. It is far far better solution to avoid scratches then the tank pads.

The wind blast beyond 160 is uffff. Next month it is time for helmet replacement, as the existing helmet just wants to fly off my head everytime I do high speed runs. Surprisingly I havent experienced neck pain today inspite of me doing some really good speeds today, one thing I did today was crouch on the tank as I wasnt concerned with tank scratches as PPF was doing its job.

She consistently delivers 250+ kms for every 10 litres. The brakes are weird, sometimes they feel spongy sometimes ok, today they felt ok but lack feel.

eMahendra - 3M 1110 Ear Plugs

Works really well, have been using it for about 2 years now. Pickup a pack of 10 or so, since one would last about 3-4 rides at max (or one rainy ride). Would recommend using only on fast straight roads, not if you are doing twisties where you will barely do high speeds!

As Praful bhai suggested, 3M ear plugs are cheap (cost wise) and pure VFM!

For the brakes, did you get them bled? Maybe air got trapped between brake lines.

The brakes on the 650 have always been like that, in fact the ones on the 2012 650 are far better than the 2011 ones, that is what I have heard.

By the way I will be upgrading the brake lines and pads, so that should help a lot.


By the way I managed to hit 195 [speedo indicated], this was while riding against the wind. The best part is I feel I am in control of the bike even at those speeds, it never feels scary, the scary part is only the wind blast.

Yesterday managed to cover close to 120 kms in an hour, I could have done more but I kept on slowing down for small stretches, she does 150 at 7k rpm and isnt stressed out at all.

Reading through the thread made me relive similar thoughts in my head. In fact I am considering the Duke 390 and N650 myself! But that's for when I return back to India. Hopefully there will be more options to choose then

Thanks! In fact you too have in some ways influenced my biking, I still recall your photos of the Kemmangundi and Kodachadri ride, I was blown away by them and brought an SLR inspired by those snaps of yours.

It has been a couple of months since I updated the thread, the bike has done close to 4K kms, I normally take her out during the weekend and do around 200 to 400 kms. I need to do a longer ride to truly explore her further.
The morrimotto projectors have arrived and will go on her shortly.
I got the brake lines upgraded to braided steel lines from HELL performance. The brakes have improved massively, the sponginess has gone and she is razor sharp now. I just have to do a light single finger tap on the lever to cut down the speeds from 160+. All this improvement with just the lines, the EBC extreme pro brake pads are yet to arrive and I am sure, it will take the braking performance to another level.

The R & G radiator guard R&G radiator guard for Kawasaki Versys 650, '10-, Ninja 650R, '10-, ER6-f ER6-n '09- - TwistedThrottle.com has also arrived, that should take care of the monsoon along with the front fender mod designed by @Rossiter [I will post a picture of this, once it is on the bike].

I have also ordered the Viaterrra Claw, once that arrives I believe, I have all that is required for touring .

Max speed acheived so far :- 211 kmph [Not by me, I have managed 205 kmph only].

In full blast mode [redlining in each gear] she delivers around 18 to 20 kmpl, which I feel is fine.

In between, I bought the SOL Unicorn helmet and also ear plugs. The 3M ear plugs are a boon on the highway.

To give you all an idea about her cruising ability I managed to cover 87 kms in 40 mins last sunday and I wasn't blasting her, I just kept her in the 150+ range.

By the way, I feel the exhaust note has changed and she sounds wonderful now, she sounds like inline 4 Cyl at high revvs, not exactly similar but she definitely sounds far far better than a single Cylinder.
