    Hello,
    First of all congratulations on your purchase.
    You have spent your hard earnt money on the bike, now do yourself a favour, spend a little bit more and take her to the track.
    Putting around town and going straight on the high way will never make you realise what a fantastic piece of machinery you have.
    It will also put your apprehensions at ease.
    In my opinion its the fastest way to learn and build confidence in your bike.
    All the best, and looking forward to tons of stories and pictures from you burning rubber
    drive safely... if not for you then for the sake of others!!

      Don't know why you find it difficult to reach the levers, unless you have really small hands.
      I have tiny hands but never experienced any issues.
      I would advice you to meet fellow riders and see what is wrong.
      There are after market adjustable levers available.
      Also if the clutch feels too hard for you, look at slave cylinders
      drive safely... if not for you then for the sake of others!!

        Good to know everything is sorted out. It is always a good idea to learn doing some basic repairs on the bike. I suggest you register in this forum How To's : Yamaha R1 Forum and follow the discussions there for any mechanical help. Those kind of forums helped me a lot for working on my bike.

          Congratulations. The bike looks wonderful. For the levers , Just move the adjuster to a position you find comfortable. Alternatively , if you still feel reach is a problem get after market levers. FP Tactical and Pazzos are good. You get both shortys and standard length to suit your style. Ride hard , ride safe .

                Thanks a ton for the wishes.

                The bike now rides a lot better as I get more accustomed but some U-turns still turn to a nightmare and the turning radius still being atrocious. Partly my fault as I am still getting used to moving my body to steer the bike. The only negative this week is the constant chasing.......by dogs, by cars, by bikes and almost anyone on anything which moves. Twice I have had people in cars putting me into dangerous situations cause they want to race. Good thing my brakes are still good. I think it is the exhaust note which is making most of the car drivers insane.

                Oh! Well the only good part is the real life practice I am getting....in terms of the lever distance, I think some aftermarkets are definitely needed since I am not comfortable with their current position. I have never measured my hands, but am assuming they are freakishly small or it may be a psychological thing. So current wish list is a used pazzo/titax levers (Used since I am mostly broke after all the safety gear I have purchased )

                Lastly the daily riding has helped me cross my personal mark of 250 kms with 10+ days, but need to take the bike out on a longer drive just so I can get better at this

                  i know how tough it is to find a well maintained superbike at a reasonable price as i am doing that from a while,,but all the efforts are worth it

                    Well with this morning's ride the bike has officially crossed the 5k milestone (might be the second time it is doing that ), but more importantly I have crossed 500 km mark as i had bought it 4502 km...

                    This past few days have been more exciting as I have begun to take the bike out into traffic, which means high heat generation and a lot of time spent at traffic signals wishing them to change colors faster.

                    Plus Points:
                    The Acceleration - nothing prepares you for it and it spoils you rotten. Everything feels so slow in comparison to the extent that I now drive my P220 at a lazy 40 most of the time or push it to 60 if i really need to get somewhere. The R1 has turned my fastest indian into a tourer
                    The Looks - I must be one of the few who likes the fact that the R15 is styled so similarly that people often confuse the two, especially in the blue white livery, so when it comes up in their rear view mirrors or pulls up next to them at signals they dont usually pay attention. But a few revs and suddenly the world takes notice and knows that there is a monster right next to them. This is best illustratred by an incident which happened on Sunday where I pulled up behind 2 guys on a Activa at one of the signals, have encountered 4 such signals before and watching the engine overheat, I decided to rev the engine a bit just so that the coolant would circulate and reduce the temp by 1 or 2 degrees. But the moment they heard my exhaust they actually moved aside and asked me to come forward and even made one of the seven seaters to move aside all the while giving me the thumbs up signal. In the 3 years that I have lived in this city, I have never had people make way, usually honking just makes them want to get in you way somemore

                    yes, there are negatives most of which are forgotten above 5k rpm, is the aggresive seating position - for anyone who has never ridden a SBK, especially a track focussed bike like R1, you learn to live with 2 pains - Back Pain and Wrist Pain. I spent nearly 6 hours on Sunday riding in all types of conditions with quite a few long breaks in between. But the result was Moov was needed by the time i decided to get off my high horse in every sense of the word

                    I do apologize for the quality of the pics, taken from my cameraphone. Also am posting a pic of my one with some other SBK's that I met on Sunday. I was so awed by their bikes (especially the red Busa) that I even forgot to ask them for their club name

                    P.S: Since I dont know the owner of the bikes and dont have his permission to post the pics, I would request him if he is an xBhp member to drop a note if he wants me to take the pic down

Did it really reduce the temp? I think it will actually increase the temp instead because of the revving.

                      In any case, once the temp reaches some point (some where 220F == 106C) the fan should come on and it should help reducing the temp. Check whether your fan is working or not.

                              @cbr600: Well looks like another piece of misguided information I have received, the fans do work, but the traffic was so bad that the temp kept rising. Will keep this in mind for the future.

                              @ Praj zm: Thanks for the wishes, and about the maintenance, I will taking it for its first service tommorow (The previous owner did most of the servicing himself). Since its my first service since I bought the bike, I have a huge list of things that I want changed just to be on the safer side, so expect a bill in excess of 10k and maybe even 20k not counting the pazzo levers I want to add. I will keep you posted on the exact specifics once I come back

                              Well thought i will add a few more pics including a comparison with the wife (my p220). the last set of pics are from my attempt to go for a ride this morning, attempt cause all of a sudden descended the infamous delhi fog reducing visibility down to nil putting an end to what i had hoped was a longer sunday ride...you can see how bad things got with pics 6, 7 and 8. for those familiar with gurgaon, the backdrop in pic 6 is ambience mall and 7, 8 is the gurgaon toll, both of which are completely invisible due to the fog

                                An update has been long overdue post the service nearly 2 months back, has worked wonders for the bike, but has been yet another drain on the wallet J
                                A breakdown of the charges were as follows
                                1. Replaced clutch plate (the old one has been completely burnt out) – 7k
                                2. Standard service including changing all the fluids and workup of all electronics – 6k (I was worried about the electronics after the battery incident)
                                3. Adjustable levers – 7k
                                4. Other consumables – 1k

                                The result is the bike is more responsive that before (thanks to injector cleaning), the gear shifts are much easier, but the most important bit is my increased comfort in braking thanks to the adjustable levers. Also gone are the old decals up front to be replaced by the krp logo at the corner, which is a minor change but extremely useful in terms of visibility when I have duck down behind the screen at high speeds
                                A major change environmental change which is now affecting my riding, is the rains here in GGN, I don’t think you ever realize how much of a difference tyres make to the driving style until you have driven in the rain. Taking to corners is that much more difficult under wet conditions than we ever give people credit for. The rain is harsh and quick teacher when it comes to the finer points of braking and with road conditions like ours, where the roads either become slushy or slick, the fine art of braking is a skill that you inadvertently acquire. So I know if I survive the rains, I will be a much better rider.
