Re: Kawasaki Z800 - Dream Comes True
Vishwas Sir, I recently got the quotation for the FZ1 from the factory shop, Pune. It is around 10.5 L OTR whereas the Z800 is ~8.5 OTR (Pune). So the price difference is around 2 Lacs rightOriginally posted by trustvishwas View PostThe way you ride is the way you are..

Hearty congratulations to both of you on your acquisition of this beautiful beast. Dream come true stories like this are the ones that keep the hopes of youngsters like me alive

Thank you Viper! Yes, IDBI was an amazing experience and I recommend it to anyone and everyone who wants a fast auto loan. Coming for the G2G tomorrow? It's gonna be one heck of a G2G for sure; Do get your Bonnie with you.
Congratulations on the Zed!! This IDBI loan rate, 10.25%, is it reducing or fixed? HDFC offered me 6.5% fixed, so wanted to compare.
Keep the pictures coming and have a safe ride!
Regardless, Life shall go on.

Yes you are right. The next option was Daytona. Didn't want to spend 11 lakhs on 675cc bike. And inline 4 is inline 4!Originally posted by pcgamer View PostHearty congratulations to both of you on your acquisition of this beautiful beast. Weird, the details shared by IDBI with me are as below:Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostAFAIK Ex Showroom price of FZ1 is Rs.10.72 Lakh.

Thank you! I have been busy riding the bike...totally additive. I have not really pulled out my camera/cellphone to take a single snap. Will try to post some pictures as I add some much needed accessories over this week.Originally posted by amitmalve View PostCongrats bro!
Just read its review on MB, in-spite of the short gearing, 1st gear is good enough for 144 km/hr & this bike just needs 3rd gear to whizz past 200 km/hr! Awesome!!
Please do post more pics for drooling.
Thank you! Yes, dreams do come true if you really want them to. This is a twin cam, DOHC. Stock tyres are Dunlop and they are good. I have not pushed her a lot though but the heat build up is fast. It has a brilliant exhaust note. I was thinking of an Akra sometime later but the bass from the stock exhaust is so good that I might just let go of that plan. This one is 231 kilos (ABS Model). I'm not sure of the weight of the FZ1. Maybe Vishwas can help.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Postis this a DOHC? whats this sealed chain? stock tyres? mileage? i cant believe it got better superbike inline 4 sound than a FZ1... and what if we get an aftermarket exhaust to add its note? whats the on road price?

Re: Kawasaki Z800 - Dream Comes True
Kilometers Done: 434
Fuel Consumed: 22 Liters
Average Fuel Consumption: 19.7 km/lit
Experience: Out of the showroom, the bike felt like every other new bike; slightly dry engine note and a notchy gearbox. The clutch was painful in 10 kilometers of riding and the tyres felt grip less. The brakes are another story worth writing about. The front could slow the bike down but the rear had no effect on the speed. Feel was totally wooden and one wonders if there is any issue with the braking system.
Running in any new bike is a task that I enjoy a lot. Not that I really dig the speeds at which the bike potters around but the experience of how your new bike gets molded to your way of riding is really pleasing. Fortunately for me, the weekend was the perfect way to log in a few kilometers and also explore the bike at sane speeds. First day out in the morning, the ride was planned in such a way that I would be on the highway most of the time.
Running in on the highway has it's own merits and de-merits. On the plus side, if one starts out early, the temperature stays low and one can concentrate on the running in process. On the negative side, a bike like this in immature hands could soon turn into a race of ego with fellow road users. One can also go a bit over enthusiastic and ride the bike faster than it is supposed to go.
The manual states that during running in, engine speed should not exceed 4K rpm up to the first thousand kilometers and then up to 6K rpm for the second thousand kilometers. For me, running in is all about varying engine speed, consistent and persistent throttle roll on and roll off. Frequent gear changes are essential in bedding in the gearbox as well.
From my very short experience, I observed the following
- Gearbox is smooth and the ratios towards the top are close.
- Engine is smooth. Perhaps the smoothest inline I have ever ridden. Acceleration is liner and the pull is strong
- Exhaust produces the most bass at around 2.5K where it actually feels like a boom. Post that, the bike sounds insanely smooth.
- Brakes are very communicative. The rear one takes it's own sweet time to start biting.
- Headlight throw and brightness both are not sufficient for a bike of this potential
- The anti slip material on the rider's seat is good enough with regular clothing (Jeans or Cotton Trousers). However, with a leather suit, it offers no grip.
- The riders right foot peg position is slightly unconventional. If one sits with the toes on the foot peg, the heel rests on the exhaust (gets hot and causes scuff marks on the exhaust)
- Instruments are clear to read. The fuel consumption figure looks pretty accurate when the throttle is rolled on. Only when rolling off, it shows weird numbers. I have seen 99.9 km/lit.
- Im not sure whether this is due to weight or due to an incorrectly set up suspension preload (for my weight), but the bike's rear acts like a pogo stick if pushed into a corner.
- Weight is not an issue while negotiating city traffic.
- Pillion seat is just for a short ride. No long rides...be it a pillion rider with a small frame as well.
- Heat is not an issue with a suit. However, with conventional clothing and in traffic, heat is surely felt.
- Mirrors could be moved out by an inch to offer a better view
- Chain may need lubing as the dealer may forget this small task as a part of PDI
- Front brake lever is adjustable but clutch is not. Don't understand why this was kept out when the Ninja 650 has this feature.
More posts to follow as I get used to my "Z"Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Wow that was quick. Neatly explained and covers most of the points worth remembering during initial running in.

Wow NV! When did you cover 400+ kms? Mine has hardly done 100 kms!
About the heating, its quite normal in this weather. Because I have ridden a four cylinder bike in cooler weather. And it doesn't get heated as much. Just that the ambient temperature is more in May.Last edited by nitrosatya; 05-26-2014, 09:14 PM.
