  • Re: Kawasaki Z800 - Dream Comes True

    So then, the story continues...

Being a clean bike freak, I could not resist my new Z800 standing in the parking looking like a 10 year old neglected bike. Some TLC was all that was needed.

A wash at the SVC was the first way to ensure that the zillion tons of dirt and muck was washed away.

Notice how the wash process only takes away larger particles of dirt leaving the radiator and the other internals coated with dirt and mud. Unfortunately, no matter where you wash it, the quality of wash is lower than average. This is not just for bikes, even for cars, a reputed firm like 3M survives only due to the quality of their polishes. Their wash is just as shoddy.

What next? A little elbow grease, a paddock stand, some spare weekend time, a box full of quality cleaners, waxes, polishes, detailers and the result is as seen in the pics below

Just saw this tread today. Wanted to start one myself. Bike has completed 1200 Kms. 1st service still pending. Having a hard time registering the bike here. Any Z800 owners from Chennai?

Lol, it's my brother's bike and both of us use it. That's why it's run so much. Servicing is a pain here as Kawasaki don't have a service centre and we'll have to wait for a engineer to come from Bangalore or I'll have to take it to Bangalore for service. Hence the delay. We haven't got it even registered yet for crying out loud. The process just takes forever!

Any of you guys took it on a long ride? Impressions on the seating and comfort?

I took it for a 400 kms ride in a day felt that seating position is a bit aggressive. Took a toll on my back and wrists. Maybe I'll get used to it after a while.

Suspension setup is just perfect. Neither too soft nor too hard.

Wind blast was an issue post 120Kmph. Got the new gen Puig windscreen fitted. Haven't got a chance to test it yet.

Taking close u turns is a pain as the handle bar almost touches the tank so you couldn't turn the throttle and moving the bike without throttle is a pain as it's too darn heavy!

Very comfortable bike to ride in city as it's short geared. Cleanly pulls from as low as 40Kmph in the 6th gear!

Apart from the windscreen, got the fork and engine protectors fixed and changed the exhaust to Mivv. It's got the DB killer on for now. She simply roars without out!

Very impressive upgrades there for the bike. How much for the MIVV and from where?

I have clocked more then 2000 kms by now that also include a longish ride of around 450 kms.

Will agree with you on the feedback and to add to this, as to me, I have not gone past 120 kmph a lot of times and riding it primarily for shorter rides around the city.

The suspension to me was lill on the harder side so got it adjusted.

The ride is very comforting and have ridden quite a chunk of these kms with a pillion. So it does well to comfort both of us.

However, if the roads are bad and broken, it takes a toll on your wrists and back. Hence the adjustment to suspension.

Could you post in some pics of the MIVV that you have put on. Want to see if that what I had checked out.

Your observations are spot on and as shashrash says, you are getting a bit late for service. Do post something more on the exhaust. Would love to listen to it.

Regarding long ride comfort, taller riders will find it more comfortable than shorter riders. I have not done a very long ride but somewhere around 250 km and I found it fatigue-free.

Thanks man. Yes, will get it serviced 1st thing after registration. Planning to take it to Bangalore for service.

Yes, I will share some clips of the MIVV exhaust. Thing is since it's not registered, we are not taking it outside. Don't want to invite unwanted problems. Will try to share some clips this weekend.

I'm not too short. I'm about 5.85. The ride was not tiring but the seating was uncomfortable on longer rides. Since the rider is leaning front, the body weight is trasferred to his wrists. When I go over pot holes or when I hit the brakes, my wrists are pressurized and it takes a beating. So after being in the saddle about the 4 to 5 hours, my wrists started crying. But others may have different opinion as I'm not used to this riding position. Maybe it'll get better after few rides.

Comparing to the Z800, my D390 felt far more comfortable as seating is more upright and there's no load on the wrists.

Is your 1st service complete? Any noticeable difference now?

But being a CBU, this thing is a VFM product from Kawasaki.
