Question to all Z800 owners. Did any of you considered the Z1000 and rejected it for reasons apart from the price difference?

        Greetings Gentlemen

Proud and delighted to share my purchase of the Kawasaki Z800 from the dealership in Pune. I'm a resident of Mumbai and owned a CBR 250R ABS prior to this beast. I picked her up on 27/8/14, after having waited for 13 days since I booked her; a promise that was well kept by the dealership. Lots to share and learn as I go about getting to know fellow Z800 owners on this forum. For now, I leave you with this picture of my proud possession

No other reason than price for me.

                Many Congratulations to you too!
So far, I've clocked a little over 320 kms on her. With the monsoon battering the streets of Mumbai and adjoining areas, I haven't really mustered to courage to venture out a lot. Post rains (later this month), I plan on riding to a nearby hill station (Lonavla) on the scenic NH4 or Pune, a decision I'm yet to arrive at.

I am in agreement with just about everything that has been shared by fellow users on this forum. Right from the brakes taking time to bite, to the "bassy growl" that makes heads turn under 4000 RPM, the weight being felt when trying to park her in a narrow parking space, at speed ZERO especially (I have this challenge to overcome every single time I take her out ) - everything, is perfectly in sync with whats already on this forum. Kudos to you gentlemen who virtually made me aware of what to expect and what not to, even before I rode her for the first time.

I'm breaking her in using varying speeds, across varying gears - however as you may have observed - the bike just needs the 1st and the 6th gear to put it simply! There is so much torque available at as low at 1600 RPM that she revs freely all the way north of 30 kmph. And very EFFORTLESSLY at that!

Although the manual clearly states NOT to exceed over 4000 RPM in any gear for the first 800 kms, I couldn't resist testing her potential and have briefly touched speeds in excess of 150 kmph (on 3 occasions) and on one sunny Sunday morning, I whacked open the throttle at 35kmph and went up all the way upto 174 kmph, only to find myself desperately pushing against the wind to let go of the throttle coz my right hand won't come off!! The pull was so intense post 150 kmph and so quick, I was left with plenty of road ahead but ZERO courage!

On that note, I wanted to check with fellow users, is this madness OK once in a while, when breaking in?

                Cheers,
                Nabeel

I guess there is no sure shot answer for this. The company recommended limit is slightly pessimistic but what impact would not attending to that limit would have on the bike is tough to predict and would vary from situation to situation. It would be better to follow the limit. However, once in a while if you did it although the increase should be gradual and no sudden acceleration of gear changes I think you should be fine. In fact the dukes running in method recommends taking the tacho north of the recommended limit to provide the heat cycles to the engine but gradually and not to do that on a cold engine when you just start the ride in morning. What I have understood is that most of the running happens in the first 100 kms but then I am no expert.

Just did pune - goa - pune on my Zee. The bike feels fantastic on the highway and super stable even at speeds above 200 kmph however it is not possible to ride at such speed due to crazy wind blast. And for kitna deti hai people it returned a mileage of around 20.7 km/l ( tank full to tank full). Great bike and a complete package indeed..
