Re: Kawasaki Z800 - Dream Comes True

Congratulations on the new bike! Inline 4 fun at a much more sensible price. Eagerly await pictures of the same, particularly with the new screen.

PS:- How easy/difficult is it to adjust the suspension yourself? I mean is it possible to fiddle with the setting with simple tools while on a ride, depending on the road conditions encountered?
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

Thank you! Adjusting the suspension is doable if you have the right tools but I usually advocate the use of an authorized service point to get this done.

I shall surely do this on the coming weekend. Could not get time to snap any pictures.

A very unbiased and honest review I must say. I am also in the process of upgrading and did not know which bike to go for. I test rode the Triumph Street Triple and was overwhelmed by the power. I have ridden the Ninja 650 a number of times but I did not feel the connect with it.

Your review has made me think in the direction of the Z800. Its sad Kawasaki does not provide us with the Test Rides of such awesome machines and I guess will have to trust the reviews.

Thanks for your inputs and Congratulations of the awesome piece of machine, "THE Z800" !

P.S.:- What I gather from your posts is that you were also a Ninja 250R owner. So, I can relate with your review at the same level.

I am enjoying the Z800 and for me, it is the perfect decision (for me). I do not regret not going in for the Street Triple at all.

Bingo! I still have my Ninja 250R. Are you from Pune? Were you there at the Paddock meet the this week?

I used to stay in Pune and had bought my Ninja 250R there. But since then I stayed in Mumbai for my PG for the last two years and currently I am in Ahmedabad. I guess you can call me one of those lazy bums who do not update their current locations.

But I haven't changed it because I love the city so much and would definitely come back there sometime in future and enjoy the plethora of roads and places it offers to Ride to.

                    Sorry for bothering again

When you are in remote location where 95 octane is not available, have you ever tried running on Shell Regular fuel ? Octane boosters or something ?

Whats on your odo now ? Guess you are busy munching miles so away from posting

I am hardly getting time to ride my Z. I am also preparing a writeup of my ownership experience. This weekend should be good.

I have not really ventured into any remote location so won't really know. But, I've been told that some Z1000/Z800/ZX10R users have reported filling in regular fuel at unknown fuel stations. Apart from a slightly higher engine temperature and lower acceleration, nothing major has been reported. Having said that, I believe that if one is confronted with such a situation, he/she should fill in fuel enough to reach the nearest fuel station where better fuel is available and continue.

Odo is little over 780 kilometers. My work and recent sickness has prevented me from riding much lately.

                              Raining Z800s in Pune.

                              ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

It's been a while that I've updated this thread so here is the latest report.

                              Update:

                              Odo: 784 km
Fuel Consumed: Approx. 35 Liters (give or take a liter)
                              Problems: None

As the running in progresses, the gearbox is improving by leaps and bounds. The clutch feel is improving and the effort seems to be going down. Not sure whether this is due to my ligament strength improving or the clutch effort is really going down. Throttle response is instant and the fueling is precise. This can turn out to be a neat track tool (if we can get rid of some flab).
Had an opportunity to ride in rain and boy, does it get dirty?! I used to think that my KTM Duke 200 would win the prize for being the easiest to get dirty but I was wrong. The Z800 gets mighty dirty and soon. The front fender (mudguard as some call it) is too short and manages to let the dirt kicked by the front tyre to reach spots that are reachable to nanobots. The heat exchanger (radiator) gets mucked up with an Mount Everest pattern. The shapely exhaust pipes and the lower belly get dirty pretty soon. If the front is horrible, the rear is something to be experienced. The fat rear throws enough much to form a nice ant home on the rear fender and the swingarm. Maybe I rode it on dirtier roads but in general the observation has been consistent. On my bike I noticed that the spray from the rear managed to find a seating place on the rear seat.
