Now that we are technology, a quote from one of the Motorcycle forums--
It's a beautiful morning....I stop at a red light and hear two bikes pulling on my side...i glance over and its the beautiful bmw s1000r, and a brand new gsxr 1000(i am normally not so found of it but damn the new model is sexy) .So i give the friendly thumbs up.....Green light man..the bmw probabily had the traction control on..it took of flawlessly, the gixxer scratched the pavement for maybe 100 feet, and it did something i think i have never seen before: a semi-burnout after he was already moving at a good rate of speed....i do not know if the rider did on purpose but around 300 feet from the light the back tire lost traction and actually smoked pretty good...i have seen that a lot on cars(second or thrid gear depending on the power.. my friends z07 would do that easily). He was a damn good rider that bike was a beast and he keept it amazingly straight. It was interesting to see how technology offers an edge the guy on the bmw took off so much better, it took a while for the gixxer to sort of catch up....

The over-use of the rear brake is counter productive to safe or fast riding and is being gradually redefined on production motorcycles to perform the way the pros have known for years... that there is a definite purpose intended for the rear brake... as a tool for stability control under brakes but not just as a brake in itself. It just happens to look like one so we think it is one. The real brakes are up front.Originally posted by fireblah View PostAnd some think I am wrong in switching R1's battery in blade.
On a serious note though, whenever I apply only rear brakes, it hardly does anything, only on hard application, maybe it does, whereas R1's rear wheel happily locks up in even slight rear brake...
The rear brakes on Honda (unlike any other brands) arent there to provide any stopping power as such ! They are just a tool to aid braking.
This also the reason why the front is Tokico while the rear is Nissin( Nissin was given special set of instructions as to how even though the rear will look a 220mm one it needs to have less stopping power due to the geometry of the bike and other technical reasons...I am searching for that link which I had bookmarked)sigpic
when i ride bullet before my bullet was solid condition but i once race with a Ceilo car and my engine size. mechancic say bullet is good bike but no racing. it is good for three people and very powerful.
one day when i become rich i but ducati and then I race with cars. not now.

So you shall fall without having to lock a wheel to fall.
but then not slamming the brakes when in lean is common sense. No bike or technology can prevent a washout which occurs due to the tyre running out of available traction brownies !
Don Canet of cycle world magazine had this to say about trail braking on C-ABS
"I found the smooth nature of the CBR's ABS and its combined brake effect allow fairly aggressive rear-pedal application mid-corner without unsettling the chassis. I used this technique in a series of left-hand bends at HPCC and was able to confidently check my speed and tighten my line. Another experiment I conducted was trail-braking deep into corners, easing off the front lever while remaining on the pedal down to the corner apex."
"My conclusion? Years spent developing feel and finesse through my right fingers and foot have been rendered obsolete by this system. Grabbing a handful of brake or standing on the pedal results in nothing less than strong, controlled braking action"
the feeling of invincibility that this system imparts. We found ourselves actually seeking out slick surfaces, such as paint lines, oil spots or loose sand, to brake across. To a man, we were amazed by how transparently the system adjusts to variations in grip."

How come Shubhabrata Marmar from Overdrive says that R1 heats the least and that it is a better Motorcycle to ride?(I do not want to debate this, but sure the heating part)
posting the link of the video.

You got to ask him that...Originally posted by Sunny View PostHow much has he ridden?
He has been a journalist with BSM & now with OD and he was the president of IMOTY(Indian Motorcycle of the Year award).
I am not believing him* & so was asking for experts(you?)
to comment.
*He is a R1 fan after all.

Wow, that is a long list of credentials, unfortunately for me I just ride!Originally posted by sheelpriye View PostYou got to ask him that...

If they fixed the problem, what was it before !?
R1 is a very nice bike, but no one should give wrong info. to people. Specially who has long credentials !May the torque be with you..

Ofcourse the R1 didnt heat up when he sat on it. You have to ride it for it to heat up.
I hate TV18 group in its entirety.
I hope those 2 blokes from bombay who are selling their bike for their heating issues read whatever he has had to say about the bike.
International forums will run contrary to the magazine too...
Heck just google " 2010 R1 heating issues "
Or just ask Fireblah
Magazines cannot be trusted...world over.
The crossplane crankshaft thing makes me drool tho...will rent/lend/steal that bike for that...but wont buy untill the heat dissipation is sorted out.Last edited by TenHut; 09-05-2010, 12:44 AM.sigpic

On that note & for you guys--Originally posted by TenHut View PostThe crossplane crankshaft thing makes me drool tho...will rent/lend/steal that bike for that...but wont buy untill the heat dissipation is sorted out.
From Yamaha US forum. As some of you may know, I recently purchased a new R1 and I must say, the sound is amazing. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a regular I-4 again after riding this bike around.
I realize this post is kind of pointless but I just got back from a nice ride and I feel the need to express my love for the crossplane. I'm thinking next I may even step up to a L-twin. WHO KNOWS??!:tremble Maybe I'll post a video up of the beauty later today.

Btw if u notice when he throttles, the rear suspension doesnt squat/contract...it raises/expands...
Contrary to our intuition throttling of a bike doesnt depress the rear, it raises it.
Best example is to try and pedal a bicycle up the wall with its front wheel on the wall and the rear on the ground. The moment you pedal it, it will slam down and not make any effort to go up the wall.sigpic

Slight OT here:
Mr.Marmar says in the latest issue of OD (Sept 2010) in a shootout between R1 and The GSX-1000 that, the latter is having this SOQI thing,(didnt mentioned the full form) and his words goes like this-"Each Stanchion hands one task-compression damping or rebound damping".
So this means that single shock of the GSX handles the duty of the tremendous breaking forces? As other is for the rebound damping purpoes only?
or both never work together for the damping or rebound damping??Last edited by rennycornelius; 09-05-2010, 10:59 AM.The Magician"
