    speed 91 in india may not be 91 octance according to japan or usa
    atleast here in saudi it isnt

    imnot sure if they values of japan and india are the same
    just make sure of that

    cause u might be putting i speed91 while it maybe in reality 87 of japan
    nothing a little googling wont solve!!!!

      Bingo kar1zma, right on! Worldwide the RON system is used for Octane measurement, I don't think it's used in India, at least where it comes to sales and marketing.

      If I'm correct the 87, 91, 95, 97 branded fuels here are not RON 87, 91, 95, 97 but less than that. And that is the problem with the Indian fuel companies, they don't have any literature on their website or any sort of communication with the public about their Octane rating.

        Its really simple. Fill the 91 octane. And see if the bike knocks or pings when accelerating. If it does, either add octane boosters (you have to determine the ratio of fuel : octane booster), or use Speed 97.

          I think Coimbatore got Shell Outlets.One I knew near Aattupalam,Ukkadam.last I went ,the pump was not functional.Check there for fuel.
          BTW ,Coimbatore Yamaha Dealer(s) not dealing with SBKs? In Ernakulam ,Shinrai Yamaha offers R1 and MT-01 ,I believe.

            My bike or car don't knock even with the cheapest petrol but it would be nice to know I'm filling them up with what the manufacturers intended for them.

              thnx mate.. will check there. But there is one more problem.. i do not live in coimbatore.. i stay in a place which is near coimbatore... so cannot go there all the time to fuel up... can someone check and suggest which is the correct fuel.. speed or xtrapremium cos that's the one am getting in my town.

                  noooooo probs dude just tell that you bought it from a friend who is in some other city....as long as you have insurance papers and RC copy and the pollution certificates the rest is all fine...the only questions you get asked is why you are riding with your headlights on or about your number plate in the front or back!!....dont worry i have been caught for checking numerous times they are pretty harmless!!

                    i am from Ernakulam and i own an R1 but 06 model...i am not sure if Shinrai yamaha offers R1 and the MT but PSN Yamaha here in Palarivattom offers both and they even has the workshop setup for the srevice of the 1 nd the 01....

                      oh k.. well chennai dealer offers the R1 and am waiting for the 09 model before i decide. BTW which fuel do u use..?? my manual says 95 octane minimum am pretty confused on which indian brand should i use for my bike.

                        you are right.. they hardly check for any other stuff.. specially since i stay in a small town the cops here do not stop me thinking i might be the son of some politician as am riding a big bike

                              Dude, Personally its all a hype,do you guys get 87 octane in India? if so, use that, it burns better...I use that on my race R1....I have had no problems at all been riding R1's since 05....just my two cents .
