Dude ur facts are twisted up,,air filter normally gets replaced at 2nd or 3rd service, plus there is no way on earth that u can use suction to clean the stock filter,if it gets choked it has to be replaced.max what u can do is dust it.Originally posted by svjhonda View PostThe R1 filter is supposed to be replaced every 40,000kms.
There's no way it is supposed to be replaced so early. It isn't very different from a standard viscous air-filter and it definitely uses either suction or compressed air to clean it.amit

svj is right , it does mentions 40k kms. Blade's first inspection of air filter is recommended at 12k kms according to manual. But 40k does sound very late, considering the r1 was already choked !!
I am still surprised though....May the torque be with you..

The inspection for the R1 must be earlier, but the filter needs to be replaced at 40,000kms. So say you inspect every 1000kms. That should be enough for Indian conditions.Originally posted by fireblah View Postsvj is right , it does mentions 40k kms. BTW, the R1 did its first service na? So did they open the filter? You get the point?? :D

Go for it jolly, at 18 or 80 , its never too early or too late to enjoy biking. But just be careful , its nothing like a p150 or p220.Originally posted by jollysingh View PostAll of my friends are saying this to me fireblah . Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

I am sorry, but you have a blatant disregard for rules and responsibility when it comes to riding bikes. You got on to a 150cc bike when you were supposed to be on a bicycle or a pillion with an adult on a bike; and you got a 220cc bike when you were supposed to be riding gearless bikes between 50 and 100cc. And now at 18, you suddenly want to make the jump to 1000cc. You are just not mature enough to handle something like the R1.Originally posted by jollysingh View Posti owned 150 pulsar when i am of 14 and owned pulsar 220 at 16

Do yourself and the innocent public a favour and continue riding your Pulsar 220. If at this age and maturity level you start riding an R1, you will not only break your own bones in an accident, but seriously injure someone else too.You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Jollysingh, the concerns expressed here are valid and have to be appreciated. Generally speaking you should be gradually upgrading to higher capacity bikes. However, I DO believe there can be exceptions.
My suggestion is that, go for whichever bike you want to go for. Maturity and resposibility (about self and public) are not always proportional to ones age. I have a friend who is riding SBKs since he was 18. Today he is one of the better riders that I personally know. He has featured in this months Overdrive along with this ducati. R1 was his first SBK, which he bought after his P220.
About handling, I dont think there should be any issue with handling any of these beasts (busa included). Read a lot about riding, possibly take a riding course (if they allow you
) and just tell yourself that you dont have to necessarily take risks to be able to enjoy riding. As I have said before, the dash from 0-130kmph is good enough to give you the rush you want from these SBKs....And yes, avoid racing
To each his own karma!
