Yes sunny thats wat they told me that the manual says not to ride the bike on dusty road condition, and yes Yamaha treat their 150cc bike owner much seriously then us.Originally posted by Sunny View Post
Hey fireblah iam Amit this side and yes they opened the filter in my presence and yes it was way more dirty then i have ever seen, and i agree it had to be changed coz when i went for the service few days before that the bike was gaspin for air at low revs, but not to have parts like air filter in stock is a shame on yamaha's behalf.and they also told me that for 2yrs warranty period I cannot install a K&N filter in my bike.Originally posted by fireblah View Post
Yes the stock filters on the R1 are not washable but the K&N filters can be washed..Originally posted by csajal View Post

if filter will take 10-15 days to come why are they saying they cant give bike till tuesday . what are they planning to do in these few days ? i hope they are not giving ur bike for testrides to prospective customers .
i agree with fireblah and better take your bike home and bring it back when filter arrives . or use K&N or a BMC filter thats reusableLast edited by Puneet1; 04-20-2010, 09:38 PM.

Aahh... see I learn a new thing!!Originally posted by ken cool View PostStock Air Filters are NOT washable.
I have been washing my filter which is a K&N filter which is washable.
BTW: Putting a K&N air filter the world over does not void the warranty. But here it does!!!
Thanks Ken Da for the input!!
Let's see man how the Yamaha guys respond!! I keep on hearing and learning about all these happening in Delhi premium outlets and my dreams about owning a SBK keeps on getting shakyOriginally posted by amit nagar View PostTdy only i had a word wid the CBU Incharge and told him that i can get a stock filter impoterd with in 2days,so why cant they and he said that they will have the filter with 4 to 5 days.so lets see how long they play this stupid game.

^^ dont let your spirits be dampened by all this ... as someone had mentioned somewhere, all of this is new in India for everyone, companies, dealers, etc etc, except yamaha which sadly should do better because they have more experience than the rest. You just have to take care of the bike and not anyone else take you for a ride..
May the torque be with you..

And one more thing, get your filter, shake it box it, then blow compressed air from the clean side into it, i think you will be good for 2 weeks atleast.... dont let your bike out of your sight ....May the torque be with you..

air filter can be cleaned.
stock air filter is probably changed after 4000 or 5000km.
never heard of air filter change at 1st service
stock air filter can be cleaned...with compressed air from one side and vaccum cleaning from the other side....at least that's what the suzuki technicians did for my Busa.
dreams come true..

dude...
NO WAY ul let ur bike stay their sorry for my ignorance and such a late post.....this damn work... plus bike prep.. has been keeping me really really busy......
i know il sound a lil stupid but i think kn filter doesnt require any modi. to the bike its a snap on snap off thing right?
so when u take ur bike for service put the stock one... otherwise keep the k n filter on which is washable and so much better for the bike also

The filter packaging strongly says NOT to clean it with compressed air.Originally posted by doktor View Poststock air filter is probably changed after 4000 or 5000km.

Amit did go through a lot of dust during one of his rides. I had a talk with him and apparently the filter has a thick coating of dust!
Which is why people say that this country is NOT ready for high performance hi-tech bikes! All these CBU sellers are taking us for a ride.Originally posted by Sunny View PostI would also advise anyone going a roadtrip on the R1 to take due permission from the company lest they void your warranty saying that the bike was used in dusty conditions. Trust me, there is a lot of probability it will come to even that point!
K&N filters do not void warranty anywhere in the world. Here it does because these guys do not even know what K&N means.
Abroad, there is a list of modifications that do NOT void warranty and that includes a certain number of air filters wherein K&N is clearly mentionned. However, no such list here. They sell a hundred bikes here. They do not need such things.
Just shake the stock filter till the dust falls off or something like that. If you see your stock filter dirty to a point, just chuck it! The booklet says not to blow on it.Originally posted by rachitkdogra View Post@Ken Da: Does that mean that the Stock filter is not supposed to be cleaned? The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

The R1 filter is supposed to be replaced every 40,000kms.
There's no way it is supposed to be replaced so early. It isn't very different from a standard viscous air-filter and it definitely uses either suction or compressed air to clean it.You get the point?? :D
