    • Amit,

One thing I noticed in your ride video and also in one of the pics that you are using three fingures on the front brake!! Bro be very carefull on those fingures!! One fingure is more than enough to have the immense breaking power on this machines take action. Even for the Ninja 250R it's recomended to use one fingure breaking, because during panic breaking, if you are habituated to use three figures, you would grab the break lever and that's a BIG NO NO!!

Just a friendly advice.... I'm sure you are well adjusted to riding such beast!!
Twist your wrist and feel the shift!!

I try to use all four fingers!

Abroad, in the west, if you have less than three fingers on the brake lever, and the camera picks you up, you are liable to lose your riding licence. Research has shown that the more fingers you have on the brake levers, faster is your reaction time to a quick situation.

You came to within 10 feet from where my R1 was parked, you even talked to my son and you did not drop in to say hello!!! I am feeling sorry! You should have dropped in.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Ken Da I totally agree on the reaction time part that using four fingures would always give a better reaction time as against one or two fingures breaking style. But wouldn't using all the four fingures result in a automatic reflex tendency of grabing the breakes during sudden breaking. I mean I've had a situation on my P200 where I was arround 75kmph, a cycle came all of a sudden infront of me, I was having all the four fingures on the brake... I automatically went on the brakes full on... which resulted in Tank Slap and CRASH!!

I'm guessing if we are to use all the four fingures then we need to practice a lot on how we need to break specially on emergency situation.... it would be a more of mental practice than anything else... making the brain learn that not to grab the breaks

          • hi, I don't have a lot of experience, but I kept atleast 3 fingers on the brake lever. braking is one of the most important aspects of riding a bike, especially so a superbike. when I bought my bike, I was advised to specially practice braking, including hard braking so that when a situation arises you know what you are doing.

these giants have some very serious braking power,
if you brake with all fours when the bike is leaning, you will probably skid out,
also riding around a circuit is a well calculated thing
No dog is going to come in between the track,
everyone knows "HOW MUCH" to brake before a turn.

But on public roads i will advice to keep all 4 fingers

yesterday i was on NH7 at night, was just thinking what if a Dog comes in between,
and there you go after a few seconds, i saw a dog in middle of road,
thank God my fingers were on break, or I would not be here typing this
i was on 115, reaction time was VERY LESS, but i got saved.

Next time on always 3 fingers in city, 4 on highway.

PS: God does warns us before time(in form of intuitions)
we just have to catch them

well i guess then wht i was thinking was right thanks for confirming it though

worst thing that has ever happened to me was i was driving down chd- delhi in night

and a huge black bull was standing bang in middle of road and all the cars were just screeching and turning hard left or right......

just 1 -2 sec reaction time turned in the right time but after that

stopped for a min. and just waited for adrelin to finish its affect

First of all a real sorry to have highjacked the topic here with that brakes thig!!

Yeah guess you guys are right!! And Ken Da was right from the very begining , it's just that I had some not so very comfortable incidents while using 4 fingures on my P200 (well now I think it can be because my bike had inconsistent excess fork oil in both the forks)!!

Amit dude!! forget what I said earlier.... Three fingues on the front brake... Hell Yeah!!

                          • Hi guys !!! howz everybody ?? well my chronicles with the shark continue...Considering that dis is my first SBK, it is taking sumtym gettin used to all the attention that u get on the road !!! I mean its like being a celebrity ,evrybdy is lukin at u !!!!!! & yes i keep on getting the 3 most famous questions 1) kitney ki hai ??? 2) kaunsi bike hai yeh ???? 3) average kya deti hai ????? Mostly been riding in the day & evenings, though its damn hot ( my mom is just scared to lemme take it out late at nyt !!!!!)
My most important grudge is that the pillion seat is really really uncomfortable though i was expecting it wen buying it,but it doesn't go down very well with the fairer sex he he he he,been getting sum complaints !!!!!!! Rest all is slowly coming to me, maneuvering the shark is gettin easier now, though the U-turn is gonna take sumtym to master.....

Also i had 1 query... the tyres fitted to my bike r the DUNLOP SPORTMAX , i feel that these tyres r not sticky nuff' , i mean they do tend to skid. It might be just in my head , so wud really appreciate if sumone cud shed sum light on which r the best tyres for the shark & which ones did they gave in the '08 & other models .......

@csajal : well thnx a lot for the advice buddy . Well i m getting used to the shark. It is quite a learning experience !!!Right now taking things slow, about the breaking part i
guess its been discussed already !!!! Me personally ,i feel
                            comfortable keeping 3 fingers....

@ken cool : hi ken da !! well my meeting with ur son was quite a
chance meeting !!! I donno just didn't strike me at the

The Dunlops are standard on Yamahas. Came with my R6 too. They arnt the best tires though. I got myself a pair of Bridgestone BT016s after my Dunlops got worn out. And they are a huge huge improvement over the Dunlops. way more grip. I would suggest riding these tires out before you switch to a new set. Either Bridgestone or Michilens. I would feel the lack of grip under hard braking on my Dunlops. The bike would slip a bit. But make sure you wear them out evenly. Lean the bike over from side to side on open roads and keep constant throttle or steadily increasing throttle. This way you will get even wear not a flat section on the center. Dont punch the throttle while leaning, the bike my just slip from under you.

About pillion riding. Remember to explain to the pillion rider, that in order for them to enjoy the ride, some amount of effort from them will be required. They need to sit on the seat and avoid sliding down every time you brake or falling back when you accelerate. The trick is to hold the rider with your thighs and hold the rider at the waist or rest your hands over the tank. I have had my nuts and bolt tweaked a few times with pillion riders . And most of them have bumped their noses into my helmet a few times. My better half has learned the "grab with thighs" trick and enjoys the ride now.

Ride safe man. The R1 is a Yamaha. Its got the INSANE gene by birth.
