  • Surprising Facts : Escorts/Rajdoot/Yamaha

    Hi all.

Here is a few surprising facts about the Escorts/Rajdoot/Yamaha range of bikes.

    1. Both Escorts and Yamaha started out with copies of the DKW RT125 two-stroke. (Cekop's SHL M11 for Escorts and YA-1 for Yamaha)

    2. The RD350's predecessors were inspired by the German Adler MB250 two-stroke Twin

    3. The RD350 in India NEVER came with YAMAHA Decals on the Tank . It was always RAJDOOT.

    4. OE RD350 spares in India came in RAJDOOT packaging, never in YAMAHA packing

    5. We know the RD came in LeT and HeT variants, but even the Rajdoot 175 came in a LETI (Low End Torque Improved) Portmap and head.

    6. The "Rajdoot Super" had the same turn indicators and yoke/switches as the Rajdoot 350

    7. The Rajdoot 350's patented clutch plates are guaranteed a life of minimum 50,000 kms (life long clutch)

    8. The RX100, through it's 11 year history had only one SIGNIFICANT change : A conversion from 6v to 12v electricals

    9. The last lot Rajdoot 175s (RD175) had the same catcon silencers as the last lot RX135 4-speed ones (with the chrome header pipes)

    10. The RXZ 4-speed after chassis no 005466 have the following parts different from the earlier ones:

    - Oil Pump
    - Muffler
    - Primary driven and drive
    - Drive sprocket
    - Tachometer Gear Drive
    - Swingarm
    - Driven Sprocket
    - Chain
    -

For the first few years RX100s came with Brake lights, signal lights written 'Rajdoot India'. Also in the Speedo meter and tools provided during that time it was written 'RAJDOOT'.

AFAIK, the Escorts RX100 was only marketed in Nepal and Bhutan. Not in India.

Take a look at images from nepal at:

Alyn in Nepal: I have some wheels at last!

there is another pic I have seen from a nepal based site ... will have to dig it up.

The Escorts Casing came for quite some years.

As far as I can remember it,

1st Lot : Rajdoot Casing and Dial (Made by Yenkay)
Interim Period: Escorts Casing and Pricol Dial (No Yamaha written)
Last: Yamaha Casing and Pricol Dial (No Yamaha written)

Yes and the same indicators and tail lamp were used in a few Rajdoot 175 4 speed CDI models.
AFAIK also for the Escorts ACE (10 bhp).

About the first lot of RX-100 Speedos, mine is a 1987 model, it came with Yamaha Casing and Yamaha Dial not sure if its made by Yankay or Pricol. i still have he dial, preserved it after the speedo has broken in 1988.

For point number 4, are you sure even the piston kit came in RAJDOOT packing??

For point number 5, were the Head also different for LT & HT or its only the cylinder ports? Any other changes please specify.

                      Btw, nice writeup.

The OE Art ones were in Yamaha Packing but had the Part number and Sort Box stickers with Rajdoot on it ..

When the pistons were Escorts-Mahale, the packing was Rajdoot too ..

Barrels, I have not seen ... but my guess is that the same concept applied for HT(Part Nos Rajdoot) and LT (Box Rajdoot)

So, how do you identify LT from HT heads? anything written on them?
