I don't have an RD so I can't tell you how to visually spot the difference but HT had a 1mm layer on the gasket while LT had 2.5mm milling down an LT was the one of the steps to convert an LT without tongue into HT normal choot fataang machine shop guys can't get this right they rape the LT heads beyond rescue just sayin

There is a visible difference .... but the issue is that I have not seen LT and HT heads TOGETHER ....

On the bike, externally, the gap between the top most fin of the block and the head is larger on the LT (a finger width )

The HT gap is much smaller ..( only the fingernail can go in)

I cannot stop posting my favorite print ads of all time and the one below.

Such confidence, such statement shows how they believed in their product.

Now it's "Yes Yamaha" sort of a sissy phrase.

Back then it was "Some day you will own a Yamaha".

Don't miss the small texts on the right hand side. Specially the last line.
It takes some real guts to advertise like this, well of course when the product suits the ad.

              Enjoy!

PS: If I owned a RD, I would have framed this right in my drawing room.

The first picture is clicked in Feb 1989 when i took part in the All India Motor race meet (The Mc Dowell Grand Prix) in the Group D event for 100 cc. you can see the bike stripped off some parts like center & side stands, (side stand fixed temporarily to click the photo graph) headlight, tail light to meet the race regulations.

The second one (same bike) was clicked in early 1990's, you can see the yellow circled portion which is a home-made Resonator i made using an empty aluminum perfume can, drilled a hole fixed a rubber tube, drilled another hole on the in-let manifold and connected them and glued them with araldite.

BTW the kid (my cousin's son) sitting on my bike now completed his B-Tech !!

Sadly after a horrific accident in 1993 to my younger brother on my bike i parted with my RX. the bike is completely destroyed when he hit an electric pole at over 100 kph. it's with me for 6 most memorable years.
