Time for some update friends. Have been silently purchasing spares whenever I find time.. Side shield, mirrors, rear shocks, tires, rims, horn, CDI unit, rectifier, headlight, indicators, wiring harness, kicker etc have been purchased. Silver and black portion of the vehicle (except tank and shields) have been given for painting.. Will get them back today at noon, so decided to take off today and as soon as I get the painted parts ready, will take them to the garage to start the build. Will post pics later in the day. Hope everything works out well.. Fingers crossed..

Some WIP pics clicked today..
Got the parts that were given for painting, chroming and zinc coating today. Decent job done by the painter, other than the clutch side cover which had finger impressions. Looks like someone has touched it without knowing the paint is still wet. Pointed it out to the painter, he has promised to get it repainted by tomorrow noon. Again a decent job done on zinc coating and chroming.
Work done today (not much) - wheels fitted with spokes and hub. Bore cleaned thoroughly in lathe, excellent job done by the technician. Carbon deposit is almost nil and it is all set to get fired
.
Work to resume tomorrow..

Nice work going on there bro. Just a suggestion you should have removed the 2T oil cable part and the 2T oil drive shaft while painting. But if your planning to replace them then no issues
Nicely shaping up work there .. And Bardi sorry man forgot to post the pic of how the meter console and the center locking is seated will post them.
Cheers,
Chethan

Wonderful there to see newly painted parts, now, what's the estimate time for him to get the whole done complete? Keep a tab and please please do not feel lazy and frequent the garage to get the work done.Originally posted by badri View PostSome WIP pics clicked today..
What exactly was done at lathe to clean the carbon deposit? Reason, I got a used bore and is smugged with dried up carbon etc. Wanted to have it cleaned too.Bore cleaned thoroughly in lathe, excellent job done by the technician. Carbon deposit is almost nil and it is all set to get fired

Sunday afternoon is what we are targeting, There's no movement in the clutch bell, so will take it to the lathe shop today and get it repaired. Also the crank case needs to be washed. This will eat away today's first half completely. And then engine parts will be assembled, rear shocks, fork and wheels will be fitted later in the day. If time permits and if the painting rework is done, I'll get body parts to the garage (its very close to my house) and complete the build today itself.
But as you know, it never goes as we plan and there's always some new challenge waiting, so lets see.
With regards to bore cleaning. First the top outer portion (where it touches the cylinder head) was machined mildly to remove the stains. Then there was a custom made brush which had strands of wires fitted at the top. Using that, he cleaned the carbon deposited in the holes manually. Now the best part. There was a bigger version of this brush, which he fitted onto the lathe machine. With the lathe machine kept on, the intake and exhaust ports were brought in contact with the rotating brush which removed most of the deposits off the ports. After this, the bore was washed with diesel and then with soap. Then the piston was set in and kept ready for installation. Let me know if you want to bring the bore and get it cleaned here. I'll take you to the workshop and get the job done.
Thanks buddy. Yes, the 2T oil cable and drive shaft will be replaced, was in a hurry while giving it for paintingOriginally posted by Chethan Shivakumar View PostNice work going on there bro. I saw the meter console in the other thread of yours (blue race I guess), so that's fine..

Are you not replacing the clutch bell assembly? Dont take risk, better to replace all engine parts with OE or Imported spares.Originally posted by badri View PostThere's no movement in the clutch bell, so will take it to the lathe shop today and get it repaired.
I suppose you are replacing the Engine bearings too, which one are you using?

All the bearings are OE and procured from the showroom. Not sure what makes those are. I know few are nbc, nbr or something like that.Originally posted by karthikdattag View PostI suppose you are replacing the Engine bearings too, which one are you using?RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

Karthik, can you elaborate on the risk factor in retaining the existing clutch bell?Originally posted by karthikdattag View PostAre you not replacing the clutch bell assembly? Dont take risk, better to replace all engine parts with OE or Imported spares.

W.r.t engine bearings, like Sriram said they will be replaced with OE

OE Bearings are just fine. Was just checking. One can also use SKF, they are very good.Originally posted by badri View PostKarthik, can you elaborate on the risk factor in retaining the existing clutch bell?

Regarding clutch bell assembly, every mechanical part has its rated lifespan, especially a rotating mass. As you are aware, the clutch bell is directly connected to crankshaft & hence you would easliy see 6500RPM+ every time your engine is fired & doing WOT runs, hence chances of bell opening up etc are quite common. If the bell opens up, one could face clutch slippage, over-revving of engine and faster burn out of clutch plates. I have faced these issues & even after clutch bell resetting, the job is not 100% satisfactory, if it doesn't open up again, you are plain lucky.
Chethan is also facing similar issue in his RX which btw has RXG bell assembly & gives out lot of humming noise & slippage issues. We are replacing it completely. Ultimately its your call & willingness to build a reliable engine.
Cheers.

Thanks Karthik.. My mech says the bell is in back in excellent condition, I'm not going to take it for granted though.. I will get it replaced, but not now.Originally posted by karthikdattag View PostRegarding clutch bell assembly, every mechanical part has its rated lifespan, especially a rotating mass. Splendid Badri and congrats on successfully restoration of RX135 4speed. The bike looks absolutely new. Click more pics.
OE shox would have looked even better. If that was your choice to have sns spring shox, ok. Buy a microfibre cloth and rub. Don't do with rags or some dirt old cloth as they cause scratches. Take the bike to ECR and complete the run-in.
For run-in, pour little amount of oil apart from 2t oil pump for safety. Take back all your old parts back so that it might come handy when needed.
