So your pump has run trouble free for 23 years? You have never needed to repair/replace it? How many km has your bike run with that pump? Any idea what make it is? The pump in my Shogun is a Pricol... if I remember correct.
Yes. It has run trouble free for 23 years. Its a stock pump that came along with the bike. Dont know who is the vendor/OEM. It has run over 1.3Lkms with the pump.

    Hope the comments were useful

The one I bought for 600 turned out to be a used one. Bought another RX-100 one for 950 and changed the gear.

What?! I don't think its that expensive. The one that I bought was an OEM Yamaha.

Transparent tubes would be great, but I'm too chicken to try out aftermarket tubes. I feel safer to use TVS tubes only... and the OEM pump to carb tube on my bike is black. The oil tank to pump tube is transparent... however the transparency has gone down with time.

Wanted to change the tubes, but the TVS supervisor swore that its not necessary as they are still in good shape. They don't have the tubes anyway... they say they will get them soon.

Hope they get transparent tubes... else I don't see them as an option.

I keep checking to see if the exhaust is giving out smoke to confirm that oil is reaching the engine; and also the engine temp. In the absence of a transparent tube, this is the only other way I can think of.

^^^My accelerator cable is smooth. But heeding your advice, mebbe I should get it changed soon.

About the nipple... I'll check it out when I open the cover next. Didn't know there was something there that needs replacement. Hope its available with TVS. Any idea of the cost?

    Whats this oil pump nipple?

Can somebody please tell me if the oil pump will continue running (with reduced output of course) even if the accelerator cable breaks?
All I can say is, your accelerator cable should be in good condition and it should be smooth.

The oil pump nipple is what the cable gets locked into. Since it always under constant pressure (due to the pull), it needs replacement, as the lock gap increases over the time and the cable head tends to play when it should not.

I have given the bike for an engine rebuild. Will only be using the oil after run in as advised by the mech.

I have never seen any of the imported brands in 500 ml. Only the ones that are local or Castrol has 500 ml. I always buy 1L bottles unless I don't have the choice.

Sometime back I had used ESSO 2T oil which was manufactured by Exxon Mobil. It was pretty good. Seemed to be semi synthetic as it was the 2nd best in their line up. The shop where I used to buy it from had only got a few cartons of it and never got more after they got sold out. It was for Rs.180 per liter.

So even if your ignition key "check" position will show a red light, when you run out of 2T - the red lamp will not glow. You will only notice it, if you regularly check your 2T level OR if you sense that your 2T should end by now, why it has not. It happened to me once and I ran dry for 80 Kms almost, sometimes throttling hard thus screwing my piston big time. Beside that, the throttle cable that connects to the oil pump can malfunction too. Your accelerator cable is a Y cable, one controlling the 2T. Multiple dependencies, so more chance of failure. Since it has happened to me, I prefer to premix even if the oil pump is running.

As I said earlier " Premixing oil is being considered as one's own choice. ".
If you are confident about your pump do not premix. End of story. I really do not care if 1000 other people have their oil pumps running good and not premixing. I do what I feel is suitable for me.
Hmmm... yes, there are few places outside the pump that can fail. As for the oil indicator lamp, I'v never relied on it, though it has always worked fine. I always get a v good idea about how much 2t and even petrol is there in my tanks. Never been with a dry tank of either!

As for the throttle cable - the pump is regulated by two things - engine RPM and throttle twisting. So even if the throttle cable fails, it wont mean that the pump cuts off supply completely. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you think it might be a good idea to change the throttle cable as a preventive step? Mine has never been changed.
