@GS: Is caning her around MMSC part of your plans once she's ready
Yes - I've decided on stock Yam livery. MMSC? No way...I'll use this bike on the road for sunday rides and maybe the occasional track-day. RD for Saturday rides and the Zma for the track etc. unless the Ninja 250 comes out soon...

Well...not exactly custom made because the guy who made it for me had the moulds and all (which is a good thing in case I need more fairings in the future).
So basically it was a simple case of doing a good job with attention to detail. Looks really good in the end and once it is painted - won't be able to tell the difference from the stock fairings.

I made an error in my first fairing post because GRP IS Fiberglass. Therefore my fairing is a GRP fairing that looks and feels just like plastic.

I wonder how Rossiter managed to miss that...apparently his brain cells have been dying since his R1 went into hibernation...

There is a subtle difference between the two, but it's not much.

That brain cell thing may not be wrong though

GS, I know its a rather stupid question to ask, but still very badly want to know the rate at which u will be making the Chennai mosquitoes extinct, so "What is the Mileage?"

@Akhil: Am sure ur brain and all its cells will be working at 10 times its capacity once the ONE is ready.

What is the difference? I have to argue on another forum about this

ok...the 500ml bottle of fuel was empty in under 2-3 kilometers so I am not very optimistic about the chances for the chennai mosquito population. Perhaps the people of adayar will have me to thank for their deformed babies...

It's not much of a difference that you can e-smack some dude on a forum with, so don't get into something that you can't back away from

GRP - Glass Reinforced Plastic (this is a very generic term, but doesn't include CF)
FRP - Fibre Reinforced Plastic (again generic, but covers carbon fibre as well)

So it's not much, and the two terms are thrown about and used in both areas without any second thought. As long as the other dude knows what you want, it's all good

OT: Won't forget that Misal Pav in a hurry man. Well worth flying in just to snack on that.. and crashing a gazillion times in MotoGP

Wow, thats a great mileage. Even motoGP bikes might have better mileage

Start small and work your way up the ladder as your wallet and your patience grow. An RD or a TZR will become a garage ornament if you don't have the funds/time/parental blessings to pay attention to it.

                    Quick Update:

For some of you the rate of progress may seem painfully slow but these bikes take time to restore. We've just found that the water pump gear and autolube pump gear aren't in acceptable shape and therefore new parts have been ordered. The front fairings are ready and Raju is extremely impressed with the quality of the woven fiberglass work. It will be hard to distinguish this from the original once painted and coated with clear.

I've chosen a Red-Black-White paint-scheme for the finished product. The only difference will be the shape of the fairings (won't be as pulled back as the TZ250), the straight swingarm, red wheels etc. etc. I still think the finished product will look great.

                    EDIT:

On second thoughts - I think the above picture looks fantastic because it is the complete package of ultra-low clipons, single-seat with cowl, banana swingarm and an overall "racey" attitude.

I might end up being happy with a stock paintjob that you can see in my Avatar...anyway plenty of time to make a decision.

At the moment I will not be installing any fairings for the first few rides. Raju and I will be taking the bike to the track to sort out the jetting first. Post-this I will be doing long runs on the track to test reliability. Only after this will I feel confident of putting the bike on the road for regular use.

So expect to see me at the track on labor day weekend

The bike has to have white and red on it so I don't have conflict with the RC book. I like the anniversary colors too but in this case I need to have red somewhere in the picture

                      UPDATE:

I am in Chennai now...8:23am and itching for Rajkumar to get his day started. We've got the replacement gas-tank coming in this morning. This is the most crucial piece for the next steps. If there is any issue getting the tank in today...it is very likely that my entire weekend will be ruined...again

                      Fingers crossed...

Apart from that, Raju has already started working on custom chambers for my TZR. These will be hydroformed and should have improved engine-music (as the italians like to call it) and a bump up on the performance scale as well. Once the chambers are ready and tested - they will be black-ceramic coated with a silver end-can. This will be the first performance modification done to the bike.

Once the bike is ready (with stock pipes) Raju and I will be heading to the track to sort out the YPVS setting, Jetting and general fine-tuning. This is probably the most "fun" part of my trip.

It all boils down to the tank arriving on time...

Finally I managed to catch up with this thread. Looks like heading for a good job well done. And it also means that I Have to come down South some time soon. But I do not really know when. Thanks GS for doing this step by step update. Having fun.

Major disappointment...The gas-tank won't be here until Monday after I leave to Mumbai...and I thought I had this all planned out so well...

I'm going to go pray to god to give me strength so I don't go postal...

There is an outside chance another TZR tank will be ready by tomorrow morning in which case I'll be able to use that...but with the kind of luck I've had so far...I'll pack my bags and go back to Mumbai early. This is going to have to wait until I come back in July.

                            Sorry for the build-up folks...

                                Sigh...

The gas tank came in yesterday morning. Had it fitted to the bike and installed the new Battlax rear tire. Had to convert both wheels back to tubeless (previous owner had fitted tube tires). Fuel lines and tap etc. installed and I took her out for a spin.

Unfortunately the K&N put the jetting off whack. Anyway the plan was to sort out the jetting this morning on the track. As luck would have it...the track was off-limits because a JK tire car race was scheduled. I wasn't surprised or disappointed given my track-record with lady luck. Believe me when I say this - I am one of the unluckiest in the world when it comes to doing anything "fun".

So now...no track-day plus a lean-running bike on a Sunday. Raju has kindly offered to wake up "early-ish" to give me a hand with the jetting so that is where we stand now.

I also have Rossiter on tow who must be kicking himself for making the journey with his helmet and leathers because we have collectively done about 5km of riding this weekend...him as a pillion on a Aviator...and me piloting a Scooty Pep. He has pictures of this ignominy and I'll let him do the honours

The bright side is that the bike is running and perhaps the right jetting will let us take it out for a nice long ride. With my luck it will probably end up snowing outdoors and raining indoors so the miserablization of my long-weekend can continue...
