Unfortunately the K&N put the jetting off whack. Anyway the plan was to sort out the jetting this morning on the track. As luck would have it...the track was off-limits because a JK tire car race was scheduled. I wasn't surprised or disappointed given my track-record with lady luck. Believe me when I say this - I am one of the unluckiest in the world when it comes to doing anything "fun".

So now...no track-day plus a lean-running bike on a Sunday. Raju has kindly offered to wake up "early-ish" to give me a hand with the jetting so that is where we stand now.

I also have Rossiter on tow who must be kicking himself for making the journey with his helmet and leathers because we have collectively done about 5km of riding this weekend...him as a pillion on a Aviator...and me piloting a Scooty Pep. He has pictures of this ignominy and I'll let him do the honours

The bright side is that the bike is running and perhaps the right jetting will let us take it out for a nice long ride. With my luck it will probably end up snowing outdoors and raining indoors so the miserablization of my long-weekend can continue...
The sucker-punching by lady luck is something i too endure gs
But the episode hasn't blunted your sarcasm and wit one bit !
Im sure, we can all will a little luck over to you for the teezer. Here's hoping that the teez replaces your pep today !!
    Keep us posted.

I think you stand pretty well now. I do not know of too many people who have got a near perfect restored Teezer in tow just waiting to be punched.

About Rossiter and his Aviator, are you talking about his Ray bans?

I am now 100% sure my bike isn't from Andhra Pradesh because it doesn't seem like it will ever be Reddy...

Today went well (woot!) with Akhil and I heading to Raju's place with hot breakfast to soothe his morning blues. The plan was to change the 240 main jets to 280 and raise the needle slightly. So we had to get at the carbs which is easy enough on an RD...but the deltabox gets in the way on a TZR so tha tank had to come off. Made a mess of removing the tank because we had about 10 litres of gas to deal with. We lost 1 litre just removing the hoses...he will be mourned along with his 40% pal...Motul 800-2T.

Akhil made himself useful holding on to the hoses with a little too much "familiarity" Hmmm...

Soon the tank was off and the carbs were taken out. Checked the main jets and discovered that they were both of different sizes and buggered. One was almost completely blocked as well. Threw them out and installed nice 280 mikunis. Left the pilot at 25 for the moment but raised the needle up a notch. Put everything back on and Raju took the bike out for an installation ride.

Now we found that the 280s were making it run too rich...hitting a wall at 9.5k rpm with another 2k rpm left. Decided that 260s or 270s will be a good fit with a slightly smaller (22.5) pilot as well. Decided that it was too much work to do all that again so I rode away with the bike as it is. Running MUCH nicer now with a nice powerband...so Raju wants to work on the YPVS settings as well. The hydroformed chambers will be ready soon and the bike will hit the track with Raju and his jetting kit. Once he is through with it I should have a near 4-stroke kind of power delivery from idle to 11.5k rpm without any issues. Then the cosmetic work will begin. The bike is running naked now.

The new instrument panel is beautiful and the operation is without any shakes.

Akhil took her out for a spin soon after. We found a secluded road and did some high speed clutchless shifting runs to keep her in the powerband. I was so engrossed in the experience that I completely forgot to check the speedo. I like to think that I pushed the bike a little bit more than Akhil who saw a 110 in 3rd or 4th with plenty of revs to come. At one point he was pinning it when the core of the right pipe shot straight out the back. We were using hacked RX cores so the original ones will be ordered from Singapore soon. Raju's chambers will also be ready anyway...

All indications are good and the bike pulls superbly. I don't think it is safe to use such power on the roads because everything happens so quickly. I might fall back to my earlier plan of using it exclusively on the track because this bike really can kill...

          Updated pics here!!

Wow! Good fun. So it is coming along pretty nicely. Despite your perpetual cries of nothing ever happening right etc...

awww! looks like the beast is back in shape! cant wait to see it in mumbai! btw, u r getting it to mumbai rite?
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

Oh yes...the trouble is that Raju is busy with his regular line of business (building go-karts) and I am a petulant child that craves constant attention

I am back in Mumbai now. The plan from here:

                - Raju to take the bike to the track on Wednesday and sort out the Jetting and YPVS setting. This may get pushed back if the chambers are not ready by then but the day/date doesn't matter as long as he is happy with the end-result

                - Once the bike is running nicely the cosmetic work will be done. I am temporarily going for an all-white matte finish (coarse) so I can run the bike hard and make sure everything is the way I want. Then I'll do the fine detailed cosmetic work. I think all the cosmetic work will happen over the monsoons so come October - I'll have the finished product.

A matt finish will give you more wind drag!

at 6'3" and 110 kilos dry - I have bigger things to worry about in the aerodynamics department

                    I don't mean matt finish - I just won't bother with a clear-coat etc. at the moment.

                        Me...

I stopped drinking since the dawn of 2009 so I consider my weight "dry weight"

So when are you going to end up south-side? Better be before the rains or we'll never make it through a single lap on the track.

Oops. I never thought about the rain bit. Since it almost never rains up here! But then you are leaving for good till the year end!
