Re: TVS Suzuki Max 100R - Good First Bike ?

    UPDATE

I got SCAMMED on the kicker [emoji35]

Don't trust parts from 'Mahesh Auto Components' or 'M.A.C' for this bike.

It suddenly started to rattle and wobble, also was hitting the guard and getting stuck suddenly,I went to my garage and mechanic said that this is of garbage quality,Probably a defective piece and the parts guy refused to replace.Left that place in search of OEM Kicker and after 10KM,I got it! But yeah,I wasted ₹250 on this duplicate crap.Lesson learnt.
Anyways, this new kicker costed ₹400 and came in TVS Packing. It's not available everywhere, even service centres of TVS said they aren't in production anymore. Now it's perfect and doesn't foul anywhere.

Oil Lamp in Console also has started glow so I had an extra Motomix bottle lying around,so I had poured it in.The Oil Lamp came up at 1888KM ODO,that's after a full cleaning and new oil done at 93KM ODO so that's 1,795KM of riding for every 1 litre (₹250) of Oil.But the manual says that it gets over by 1,200KM.So I guess my Oil Pump isn't working as mentioned in the manual.

Question : How do I adjust the oil pump to give more oil to the engine ?

      UPDATE

Got two new stickers for the bike!
      Costed ₹150 including shipping.
      Looks awesome!

Near the 2000KM Mark on ODO.Next plan is to change Spark plug, clean exhaust,Clean and Relube chain, replace the Exaust Suppressor inside to reduce the sound.I may change the oil tank too because those mounts are broken.Click image for larger version

        UPDATE

The Accelerator Cable snapped and the Choke Cable started to become loose. So I decided to change them both to TVS OE Part.Went to Ramkay TVS,Mandaveli and got both the cables for ₹200 and paid ₹100 to get it installed, cleaned the LH Clutch cover and also adjusted the Oil Pump along with it.

Bike has reached nearly 2000KM ODOClick image for larger version

          UPDATE

          2000KM Achieved

Some problems, which I missed out earlier, have been listed below and will be fixed soon.Bike is doing very well,Mileage figures are still ~35kmpl which is decent enough for the bike's performance. The engine cannot idle if the headlight is switched on,so I think coil has become weak. The battery isn't getting charged either, but I'm pretty sure the wiring is a complete mess and there is a high possibility that bad wiring is the cause of all the electrical issues.Eitherways,Here's the list!

Remaining Parts to buy/Work to do :

          Replace Oil Tank
          Full Electrical Checkup
          New Wiring Harness
          Proper Cable Management
          Coil Rewinding/Replacing
          Clean+Retune Carb
          Clean Air Filter
          Replace Spark Plug
          Check Compression
          Replace Piston rings if needed
          Clean/Decarb Exhaust
          Replace Carb Gasket
          Finally,a good wash+polish

Since I'm scheduled with programs,Exams are coming up,I think all these works will take quite sometime,But I am determined to bring my bike back to shape! It's already nearly there.

Try increasing idle rpm a little. It may avoid engine stalling issue when headlight turned on.

Yes I have done that. Now the bike doesn't die with the headlight on.

              UPDATE

Went to Electrician,He checked the coils, input output voltages and found out that the entire wiring needs to be changed along with the Battery.I have ordered Genuine MINDA Max 100R Wiring Harness,Hopefully should arrive on Wednesday. He also says that replacing Coil is a good idea as it is a little old now.But I'll do it later.

                  UPDATE

Replaced Oil Tank today.Basically the old tank's mounts were completely broken so it was holding on just one screw.I sourced this tank which is just as old,but looks to be in decent shape and no leaks anywhere apart from the crazy amounts of dirt and debris inside and outside the tank.Outside is very easy, just use a hard brush or a dishwasher sponge and rub it off, pour some oil on top of the gunk that's stuck outside the tank. For the inside,I used petrol to clean the insides of the tank.Basically let the tank upside down to drain some left over oil out,Iet it sit for 5 hours. Then with petrol,Add 50-100ml into the tank, remember to close the outlet with your finger and then shake very vigorously. The tank will get cleaned very well.Repeat the steps for 3 times for best result!

Re: TVS Suzuki Max 100R - Good First Bike ?

                    MAJOR UPDATE!

Clutchplates,Pressure plates replaced and Clutch Bell Fixed!

A major work that was long overdue! The bike was slipping at higher RPMs for quite a while now.I finally got time to get to fix it.I tried this new garage called Mad Monkey Automotive,in Porur, and what an amazing place! They have done a splendid job on the bike.I could see an RD350 and a Shogun being rebuilt, some superbikes,a Harley, but they give great importance to old commuters like mine! I came there at 11.30AM and they took the bike out for a ride, went to a wash place and washed the clutch cover, basically the right side fully.Work began at 12PM,They inspected the parts I got and then when they opened the clutch cover, they found out that the Clutch Basket was just moving around,so much play.So they took it to a lathe shop, got it fixed and it was snug, properly fit. That took a half an hour though. Then they cleaned the casing with petrol and brush, then installed everything back in,poured new oil and the difference was immediately not noticeable. In fact,I thought there was something not done right,as I saw a lot of smoke from the clutch cover after the mechanic took it out for a ride and came after the replacement. He told it will vanish soon,it's just the new plates setting in,along with the residue oil burning up,and he was right! After 3KM,The smoke stopped and the bike slowly started to become smoother, clutch was not as light as before but definitely not too hard. The slippage issue was completely gone. But false neutrals do occur with time.Cost breakdown is ₹300 for fixing the basket,₹350 for the new Oil,₹200 for the labour so total of ₹850.They also did a compression test and they said it was completely fine.

Just the moment I thought everything was coming along together,I had the first accident in this bike. The brake cable snapped.I broke the front right indicator as I hit a taxi who did a sudden brake for no apparent reason. So I had to change the cable and that indicator, including labour costed ₹350.

Bike is coming along very nicely.Only very few issues left.

Fixes yet to be done :

                    Full Electrical Checkup
                    New Wiring Harness
                    New Battery
                    Proper Cable Management
                    Exhaust Clean De-Carb
                    Change Spark Plug

                      UPDATE

I got back the original GABRIEL Rear Suspension from Pudupet.I was originally roaming there, searching for the wiring harness but I just couldn't source it.Now the bike's side stand is a little more firmer and the right spring doesn't hit the exhaust.Bike feels a little more stable.

Still searching for the harness.I might give up anytime as it's been very tiring to source it.Click image for larger version

Did a complete Electrical Checkup,Got a New Battery,Checked Compression,Did Cable Management and fixed the Seat (again)

Got time off college and decided to get the bike fixed.Got the Exide Battery with 4 years warranty for ₹1100.The Holder,Clamp and Mount costed another ₹100.Labour costed ₹300 which included fixing the seat,Checking compression and full electrical checkup.Compression was fine,No issues there.I need to change the Spark Plug and have to Clean the Exhaust completely.Electrical wise - Rectifier,CDi,RR Unit were all doing very well,Perfectly fine.Only the wiring,He said wiring is physically very weak and needs to be changed soon.Anyways,The bike feels more 'alive' now.The Lamps,Horn,Chime.etc work perfectly.Happy with the outcome!

The darn seat started to rattle again.I was just feeling really fed up with it.So I went to the shop where I got my Helmet. He removed the seat and found out that the original cover was still intact and the outer layer was thickened with foam,so the entire seat was larger and that didn't go well with the right panel as the weight and fouling of it ultimately led to the panel to crack. So I have to replace the panel too.So he took off the old covers,Cleaned the foam,He also made sure that the seat mounts were glued in position so that they don't come off.Stitched a new cover and slotted it onto the bike and it looks really nice now! Costed ₹250 totally Click image for larger version

                            MAJOR UPDATE :

Cleaned the Exhaust, Decarbonized Head,Replaced Entire Wiring Kit,Rectifier,Spark Plug and Indicators (With the one of Shogun)

As the title suggests,This was awesome! The head was opened the first time and it had some carbon deposits. Was thoroughly cleaned and set back in,with a new Bosch Spark Plug. Then later, the Wiring kit costed ₹350 and labour was ₹500.But the Rectifier had gone bad so another ₹250 for it.The Headlight died in the testing process so another ₹20 for that. The electrician I went to,is by far one of the best in Chennai.Spark Plug Costed ₹70,Indicators costed ₹460 and the labour for installing those two was ₹400.Overall,The bike feels amazing now! Everything works, finally. There are little to no rattles anywhere.Since mechanically it's almost perfect now,I will check efficiency one more time to see if there is any improvement.

Almost all the work is done!
                            Remaining is
