  • RXZ 5 speed on the road finally

And after 6 months of running around for parts, getting my own hands dirty, and working on assembling nearly 60-70% of the bike myself, here is a very satisfied owner of a 2000 model RXZ 5 speed.

    Parts replaced -

Nearly everything leaving the inner mudguard, front hub, disc assy, master cylinder, caliper and lever.

New front forks, handle T, meters, mounting plates, headlight, handlebar, RVMs ( original alpha toyo! ), tank, seat ( coming soon ), plastic panels, filter box, battery holder, rear tail light, rear rim, axles, bearings, brake mechanism rear, hub plate, return spring, brake lever, foot rest rod, rear foot rests with mounting rods and the mounts as well.

new RX100 silencer for the deep and crisp note in the exhaust.

Currently running Dunlop mystere 2.75-18 and 100/90 brand new. ( could not find michelins in gurgaon/faridabad, and i was kinda impatient as well ).

The Engine is a 4TL00 ( 12.5 bhp block ), dunno why but is so. The bike was in a good running condition when i got it. The engine was a first oversize with a lot of play in the con-rod. So got it bored to 2nd, with new rings, bearings, oil seals etc.

The clutch was good, so just checked the plates, and its running fine.

new rpm gear drive went in, because the old one had shorn off. All new cables etc. Both the meters are running tight now, no fluctuations on the readings.

New wiring harness, and new oil sensor, 2t tank etc. The 2t pump was working well, so just got the o-ring changed, and got it serviced and cleaned nicely.

The oil low indication light has to be still worked on, waiting for the 4 pin connector for that.

Parts pending to be replaced -

    - Had ordered a new 14.5 bhp cylinder kit from malaysia. its arrived in customs, so once i get it in my hands, the engine is going to be dismantled again, and then all the covers that i did not replace ( replaced 2 t pump cover and magneto cover ) will be cleaned, sanded, and repainted fresh.

The carburettor was given a complete service, and now the bike is half kick start, which is a great feeling. Though my neighbours dont like the smoke that it generates.. Gotta convince em somehow its good for killing the mosquitoes!!!

    - The front cowling and visor need to be replaced, also the engine cover since these parts were not available at that time.

    - I want to replace the master cylinder and the disc brake possibly, but even if i order from abroad, the complete kit itself is around 9k!!! so thats on hold. I think ill replace the brake hose with that of the FZ due to the length match, and then bleed the brake.

Searching for - the rectangular orange reflectors that fit below the tank on either side.

Some pics attached. the handle bar rusted in the two months that the bike was parked after rebuild, will be replaced soon.

Right now im just enjoying the buzzing of a 2 stroke engine inbetween my legs again after ages.

PS - The reason why i hold the RXZ close to my heart is because this is the bike that i learnt riding on. Though it was a 96-97 RXZ, 4 speed drum model ( maroon color ), But the memories that bike has, i wanted to resurrect and cherish for as long as i could.

This bike is my suzuki katana. The styling/looks are something that i really like, and there isnt actually anything that i would wanna change in this bike visually.

They look smashing in black the flower heads, but right now im just going stock. Actually im already facing custom issues with these parts, so i want to clear one set first before ordering anything else.

really itchy to pick up a dilapidated RXG lying in my neighbourhood, and build a totally souped up engine for it. Lets see.
