Re: Planned, Unplanned and then Re-Planned
The roads in Bandipur were good but soon after entering madumalai the change was clearly visible, the roads were not bad per se but definitely not as good as the Bandipur ones. Reached Theppakadu took the left and continued leisurely. Everybody just had the excitement for the hairpin turns that lay ahead.
The roads from Theppakadu to Masinagudi are not the flattest but for most part of it thin and arrow straight with woods on either side. With the Nilgiris in the horizon, I started speeding up and this proved to be a nasty mistake for me.
I was going at about 80kmph a little ahead of Masinagudi and when suddenly a few meters ahead of me I see these weirdest shaped speed breakers that I had ever seen. It was more or less like a 5 inch wall on the road, I knew that I could never brake in time to stop and the powdered lime stone on the road didn’t help either, so instead just braced myself. As my bikes front wheel came in contact with the speed breaker what followed was not the usual high jump but instead my body jolted forward followed by a stoppie of sorts. This luckily gave enough time for the others to slow down and brake safely. Got off the bike, thanked my lucky stars, inspected the front wheel, remembered my school days were we were repeatedly told that “haste makes waste”
and continued casually again.
Some more uneventful kms later we finally reached the hill base, we didn’t stop but I could bet that everybody had a big grin on their face while we saw the board with 36 hairpin bends mentioned
Continued forward with a few occasional stops, appreciating the beauty that was in front of our eyes.
The hairpin bends were just pure bliss to ride. Finally after this stretch was done we were welcomed by our worst stretch en-route to Ooty. The roads just kept getting worse until we reached the city. We reached Ooty by 9. All of us very super hungry by now and decided to get some breakfast. The first restaurant that i stopped, the guy running the place actually told me that "Sir, Sunday - No breakfast today" and i was like What??

few pics at Ooty:
Finally stopped at a place called Nilgiris Hotel, were after a lot of struggle we ended up having our breakfast. Not sure if it was the hunger or if the Dosas were actually that good but it was one of the best Roast Dosas i ever had. After spending some nice quality and fun time here decided to move on around 10:30 AM____________________

Re: Planned, Unplanned and then Re-Planned
There were no hints for Ooty ride. All I knew that "bra" wanted to see windmills. I was ready for Chitradurga, which I eventually did on the same day as Gbun and Bra. I wasn't ready for Valparai thingy in 24 hours flat.Originally posted by snehithpereira View PostJhoot, you were invited to the windmill ride, you just didn't wait till it evolved to Ooty ride

Anyways, March 26th is coming soon. Don't you dare back out now!

Re: Planned, Unplanned and then Re-Planned
After breakfast we decided to move on to Avalanche, We all were looking forward to this and we after a little bit of direction seeking we set off in the right direction. A little ahead from the Ooty bus stand we got a little confused and asked some more people and got mixed opinion for directions. However going by the majority opinion we headed in a direction. A little ahead and we were once again confused , someone even directed us towards Ooty lake but with better judgement and finally realizing that “GPS” does exist we headed in the right direction

The road that lay infront of us was pure bliss to ride, nothing short of paradise. Me, Typo and Cheta momentarily forgot the scenery, gunned down and started enjoying those beautiful curves. There was this one particular almost circular curve that we all agreed to be the best on the trip so far. Finally Cheta and Gbun decided to enjoy the scenery too and decided to go ‘click’ ‘click’ (unfortunately I don’t know where these pics are
) Not being able to spot Porkass or PG I was a little worried and stopped, only for them to join me just moments later. A little ahead of Emerald Town I found Typo waiting and pulled over, this is the spot where you got to take a right turn to reach Avalanche. Shortly Porkass and PG joined and I asked them to continue towards Avalanche while Me and Typo waited for Cheta and Gbun.
Gbun with his bloody earphones just zoomed past us and didn’t stop no matter how loud we screamed
shortly later Cheta passed by and this time again he didn’t hear us, finally what got his attention was the damn FFE
he decided to chase down Gbun and get him back, got no clue how far Gbun had gone but it took them good 10 minutes to get back. Finally we all head towards the lake. It is a non-asphalt stretch but perfectly ride-able. We reach the place and see Porkass and PG relaxing, a look around and I was a little disappointed, the no. of people there was a lot more than I thought and to make matters worse we just found out that you cannot ride down to the lake but if we wanted we could take an eco-tourism tour that would take about 2 hours and only then we could get to the lake bank.
At this point the Wayanad plan was still on and Me and Gbun thought this would be a bad idea and hence after a lot of argument and banter later we decided to skip the tour and head down to Wayanad. Just as we were heading out saw a group of people coming in the same direction, we shared a few glances and that was when I spotted the ISG2G Tee, went to say hi only to find out that it was phanikar , though I must have not put it out there then but it was a great feeling to see some more people from the same community, a quick conversation later realized that emerald is the place to go to quench our lake ride thirst. Thanks a lot for this suggestion Phanikar
Just as we were heading back to the main road, it started drizzling and after a long voting session the plan to go to Wayanad was dropped (reasons: hunger, thirst, tired, fever and tight clutch :P ) Finally with a heavy heart, Me and Gbun went with the groups choice. Everybody wanted to have lunch but since we compromised once it was now the turn of others and we decided to go to Emerald Lake and spend some quality time. After a decent amount of time right by the banks and an abnormally long photo-shoot we decided to head back for some lunch and this time no one argued as all of us were famished.
Mid way it started pouring and we had to be super cautious, we stopped at one point to switch to rain gear. This is where I realized that thanks to my super stoppie near Masinagud (atleast that’s what I thought) the chain tensioner cover/cap on the right side swingarm seemed to have come out
The rain plus this meant we didn’t get to enjoy the curvy roads on our way back to Ooty and finally roughly at about 2:30 PM we reached a Hotel (can’t even remember the name, that is the power of hunger) had nice filling lunch and then continue on our journey back home

What is it all about ?? kya ho raha hai 26th ko ??

---------------------------------------------
Continuing with the Final leg
After a big lunch and a big burp we decided to head back home. Not sure when the Bandipur gates would close we decided to skip the gundlupet road and instead head back on the same road we had come. This meant taking those hairpin bends again but this time descending and hence we had to twice more careful and slower, reached the checkpost just before the curvy roads start and the police over there asked me something that i just couldn't understand. Lucky for us Mr. Multilingual Gbun came forward and after a little bit of sweet talking and lying we got permission to head down the same road.
with the gigantanormo horns i decided to take the lead and we started our descent, as much fun these hair pin bends were to climb, equally painful and irritating it was to descend. Continuing at a pace of 20-25kmph we reached without any event, well unless we count that one spot where a duker decided to ram into me and kill me. Reached the base, regrouped, cussed about the damn brakes and stupid kids having a hill climb race on that hill, short brake and we leave. Already aware of those wall like speed breakers enroute we headed cautiously but reached madumalai in short span. there was a little rain all the while hence noone bothered to stop and we continued towards bandipur and here is where we had a little age appropriate fun (Cheta and Porkass excluded) there was a group of college couples riding along with us and they seemed to be enjoying the scene of geared bikers riding in formation and well without being modest, style
me and Typo being in the lead were enjoying most of their cameras attention and this seemed to have infuriated too old to have fun Mr. Porkass. Quick sprint forward and he flags me to stop (I was a little worried cause as far as i knew we were all riding fine) Says enough natak it's not safe (which to this point the rest of us disagree) Disappointed we continure reach bandipur (a little before six) stopped, had a nice long break with some not so appropriate bakar.
For all purposes the fun ends here as the road ahead was boring, bumpy, traffic filled and slow. Reach mysore a little late due to some rain, find our way towards the bangalore bypass road and continued towards bangalore. Stopped at Empire on mysore highway where we had a super long dinner and finally continued towards home. Reached the city around 1:30 where we all said our goodbyes. I headed over to meet the enlightend Almighty SuvraGanguly
to report this log in the same order until i realized it was getting late as i was supposed to head back home the very same day.
All in all it was a good journey and one that I enjoyed a lot
Trip Distance: 635 kms
Fuel Consumed: 11.8 L (I was the only one who finished the entire trip on a single tank of fuel and still had some left
)
The End
Thank you for going through this log, this is my first attempt at writing a travelogue and would gladly welcome any constructive criticism
Due to the rain, this set has no pictures whatsoever
