Ride 2: Vani Vilas Sagar a.k.a Mari Kanive

Ride 2: Vani Vilas Sagar a.k.a Mari Kanive
    Date: 17th May 2015
Ride time: 6 am to 6.30 pm
    Distance covered: Approx. 460 Kms
    Destination: Vani Vilas Sagar

Never thought that place is so beautiful. My mobile captures do not do any justice to the serene beauty of this place. Time to get a decent DSLR.

    Highlights of the ride:

Came across a bikers get together at Kamath Upachar. They were heading to Devarayana Durga
Completed 1st phase of run in (<= 5000 RPM till 1000 K ms) Time for first service.
    Weather was awesome through out.

Road condition: NH, State highway through beautiful country side, first taste of off roading to my beast

Well I am still breaking in. Not supposed to cross 5000 rpm till first service which is due this week. Occasionally, I have touched 6000 rpm, like two times or so.
With 5000 rpm it touched up to 80+ kmph. With 6000 rpm, it touched 90+. I did not rip it. I gradually increased the rpm. but it's mad for sure like a beast waiting to be unleashed.

It means TNT300 is slightly short geared, I recently tested unicorn160 with pillion on delhi gurgaon highway, it was cruising effortlessly at 84-85kmph with 6000rpm which is very good for a 160cc bike.

P.S. I am not comparing this beast with humble unicorn160, I just tried to explain TNT's short gearing part with an example.

300 pulls cleanly at low speeds in higher gears. At times I noticed that it pulled without a jerk at 35 Kmph speed by being in 6th gear. Once first service is done, I can push the bike till 8000 rpm till it completes 1600 Kms. Later it can be pushed beyond 8000 rpm up till 11000 rpm. Going by the nature of how it is behaving now, I can only grin imagining how it is going to act in those range.

Many congrats on TNT300...Keep them coming. is the 1st servicing after 1K kms? Also, i would like you to keep your expeience here or on the ownership thread.
After reading your posts, I'm getting skewed more and more for this beast. This could be my next upgrade soon.

                          Ride 3 : Suvarnavathi Reservoir

It was beautiful Sunday morning. Got up at 6.15 AM instead of 5.30 AM as planned. Got ready and left by 6.55 AM and rode slowly towards NICE road.I was particularly excited about this ride as this was my first ride post first service which had happened just a day before and this was time to test.It also was the time to take my machine out of 5000 RPM limit. I could push it till 8000 RPM and not beyond it. Odometer read 1098 kms. Another 500 kms to open the throttle.

I had decided destination as Suvarnavathi reservoir. I had never ridden to extreme south of Karnataka which was into Chamarajnagar district.

Took Kanakapura road. Even though this is NH, it is not multi lane and one has to be very careful while riding on this stretch as it passes through myriad of villages and you never know what appears in front of you and where. One has to be circumspect.

                          1st Highlight:

As I approached Malavalli where I had to take left to continue towards Kollegal, I came across this father-young son fully geared up and enjoying their ride on a beautiful RE continental GT and were maintaining sane speeds. I gestured with a thumbs up which was returned in kind. I thought of stopping them and taking a picture. But, thought it was a bad idea to interrupt their joyous ride, and I let them go. But it was one of the highlights as both of them were properly geared. I wish they continue to bond like this and legacy is passed on to the young man. How many people ride with their sons with such passion where in they take ensure that pillion is properly protected with right gear (I say this as I see some folks ride super bikes at high speeds with kids clinging to them without any protection)

Few pics now. Surrounded by greenery all around. Enjoy:

                          Country side roads

I was surprised to see the long queue to avail a service which we get at our door steps

Just to capture the length, I had to take panorama shot:

Then, I was introduced to this beautiful roads which was abruptly cut short due to a bridge repair work which made me to take a detour and increase the distance by around 40 kms and I passed through many villages. It's always a joy to ride through country side.

                          2nd Highlight:

As I passed through a village called Kaveripura, few kilo meters after taking diversion due to bridge repair, I acme across this gentleman who said the long will extend my journey by a good 60 kms and I could cut it short by crossing a stream on the boat and all I ad to do was ride to stream which was just a kilo meter away. I was skeptical but thought of at least seeing it. This is what he said put my bike into and said I carry i10 and swift cars in it:

Gentleman who offered me his services. I politely declined and he was adamant and said I carry much bigger bikes in this and ensure no scratch and said you don't pay me anything if something goes wrong. I just rode out of that place. Stream and the gentleman:

I rode for another five kilometers and I was told by locals to cross stream on a motor boat and not the manual plate. I thought of seeing it and rode through some fields to see the carrier:

                          The UFO:

With the way they had stacked bikes and they were taking them out, no way I would put my bike in there. I rode back:

I rode on and entered Kollegal and I witnessed some noisy crowd and I thought some accident only to find later that it was a mutton shop:

I resumed my ride through beautiful stretches:

                          I reached the destination:

Met the gentleman who is working as a guard. When I took his picture, he made a very innocent request of publishing pictures of the reservoir in newspapers so that people get to know that there are some hidden gems.

One thing I forgot to mention was he cautioned me about honey bee hives in the dam. When I was taking pictures, birds flying near by disrupted a hive and suddenly I noticed some flies and I realized they werehoney bees. Thanks to my running on a daily basis, I could scoot from there unscathed.

I could not help capturing this pic as he walked back:

Love birds. Was happy to see meaning of durability on display:

They were having lunch and were serving each other. I pray "May they live happily forever":

Met these folks curiously seeing my bike. Inquired whether they had bunked classes only to realize later that I was foolish asking that question forgetting that it was a Sunday. Thankfully they did not notice or they pretended so. Had a small chat with them and answered their queries about bike and life in Bangalore, and why I am riding alone. They had come on a bike trip to a near by temple. I asked if they were wearing helmets. They said No. I requested them to wear a helmet while riding and mentioned about benefits. It was a small request and not a lengthy preach. They did not seem to care much.

I resumed my ride and decided to take another route via Gundlupete instead of riding back through same route.

Route from Gundlupete to Mysore is undergoing some major repair work and one frequently comes across lot of stretches with rough patches and gravels of bigger sizes. Better to avoid this route. After Nanjangud, with Mysore being 10 kms away, encountered heavy hail storm. Could not see anything and cross winds were so heavy that my bike was pushed around. Even SUVs stopped by the road. I was caught at the place where there was not a tree to take shelter. Thanks to my gear, even though ice cubes pouring from heaven could not hurt me much. As rain subsided resumed my rain.

                          Highlight 3:

He was riding from Pune. he had ridden to Ooty for his school reunion and was riding to Bangalore for a day's stay and then to Goa for couple of days. He said he was a solo rider. As soon as a month old Triumph had finished it's run-in, he had taken on a solo ride of around 3500 Kms. He appreciated my beast and said it looks cool. We exchanged a very nice conversation about bikes. he turned out to be a bike freak. And, about rides and riding solo. Everyone were looking at us like we were aliens. I thoroughly enjoyed the attention my beast was getting throughout the trip. We resumed our ride. It was a pleasure to see the way my new friend was riding his bike and the way he was handling the beast. He advised me to thoroughly enjoy my new beast before I upgrade to bigger beast. We took few pics and selfie and resumed our ride after a much needed break. I just could not catch up with him. Later near NICE road, thanks to worse traffic due to Sunday, caught up with my friend before he disappeared again.

Hope, he won't mind me posting his picture.

                          Highlight 4:

My bike finished it's break in at 1600 and slowly and steadily I unleashed the beast which brought a huge smile on my face. What a beast. I hope it is not minding me subjecting it to such rides. I finished my ride and reached home at 9.15 PM and was thoroughly refreshed.

I covered around 524 kms between 7 Am and 9 PM.
