  • Right now Srinagar is flooded, so to speak! But don't worry, Zozila should open up in a couple of days. You guys would hit Zozila by the 2nd of June, if I am not wrong. Should be open y then. I'll update soon, have a friend who left for Srinagar today and is stranded there due to incessant rainfall.

Manali - Leh would most prolly take another week unless something special happens!

Time to switch to Plan - B

    • Hey guys, just putting this down for posterity. For those with Asthma, I was worried that the capsules (rotocaps) we use might catch moisture in the snow clad environment and get soggy which makes it difficult to break them open with the rotohaler. My doc advised that I use desiccators to absorb the moisture from the dabba. He said I could get them at any chemist. You either get small capsule like desiccators or you get small paper pouches which should keep the moisture away. He advised against using the pump if I've been using Rotohalers all along. In addition he has given me medications to clear chest congestion (which is a big no-no for asthmatics because it creates further impediments in breathing). But overall he says, I shouldn't face any exceptional problem - apart from what the "regulars" would face ie possible AMS and low O2 issues in general.

Guys, If I were you, I would never do an evening\night ride before a Tour
I still think you guys are grossly wasting time!

Who the hell came up with this odd time "3" and can you advise the rationale behind it?
When you say 3, you will leave by 4, you will hit traffic at every second place in NH8
You will reach Baroda by 7 hours which will be some 10-11 PM. (Try your luck finding food there during this time)
You will encounter expenses in staying at some place (unless you plan to sleep in a dhaaba)

6-7 hours rest and the time is now 5 in the morning...

Another 5 hours of ride and you are in Udaipur... a Place which we aimed to reach on Day 1.

You guys should rather leave early (unless there is a genuine reason) target reaching Ajmer on day 1.

Considering that its a freaking LONG tour, Keep the longest journey for day 1 - day 2, cause by day 3, your arse would have gone numb!

Ahemedabad by Evening is very difficult!

Right, you can bypass Ahmedabad, baroda if you plan where to halt

        Why against the pump?
Please also train your fellow riders on the medication in case God forbid something goes wrong!

        • @Satyen: I guess it was my idea about leaving @ 3pm.. what we are thinking is, covering as much as we can until 11pm or so and if we both are comfortable we can ride thru out the night till say 5 or 6 and then find a lodge/hotel sleep for nice 7-8 hrs and start back again, we are mostly doing night riding to avoid heat.

And please if possible do update about the road status i.e. manali leh road or srinagar leh road by whichever way u go, as i am suppose to leave for Leh from Mumbai on 5th June 2010, will probably reach manali by 6th evening & leh by 10th evening.

I would be driving to leh in my Black Mahindra Scorpio DX. Regn No. MH05AJ0862.

              See u guys in LEH
              Cheers
Just make sure if they allow outside vehicles into leh. From what I have heard you have to take a local taxi compulsorily..............just check that before you move out.........have fun

@ satyen - what is all this planning nonsense? Planning is waste of time and a ride happening as planned is not fun. You should know better.

                  • Best of luck to everyone who will be riding today afternoon. Take ample rest for the next 2 days and keep yourself hydrated all the time.

I would have definitely come for the see-off but Saturdays are working for me and the train guys are leaving on Monady 31st so can't meet those guys also.

Which is cool.... but Night riding is NOT the call of the hour... you guys will hallucinate by the time you reach Delhi!
Plus you have added a extra stay\halt in a place we had not intended.

                      Here is a workaround!
                      29th - Ahmedabad by 11PM
                      30th - Jaipur ~650KMs - 10 Hours Ride (Start early at 5ish)

31st - Jaipur to Delhi and around
                      1st onward the plan continues...

You can attempt reach Delhi by 30th as you have a day off on 31st, just ensure you take a lot of breaks and take good rest.

PS: The idea was to Do ahmedabad - Udaipur in night you guys hit the nail on the wrong end!
Never the less will see you guys and let you know!
