You are always awaiting for this weeks story and new shades of the same old charachters.
Gets discussed at the G2Gs by starting with "so did u read the newest installment of the Leh Log ?" out here in pune almost everytime. The charizmatik lead charachter is my champ in this entire tv serial which should be telecasted as " Born to be LEHed : the karizmatic Chronicles on wheels"

                      • Great write up Vishwas bhai.. One of the most entertaining trip log I'v been through.. Really LMAO stuff in most of the cases.. Awesome

PS: Its none of my business but still just wanted 2 admit that All those allegations on u in OF sir's thread in hard torque section seem to be totally uncalled for & after reading through your entire trip log thoroughly, I would like to say You all managed through the ups & downs of the entire trip very well as a group, so at the end of the day I would still give acknowledge the group effort of you guys & dedicate a part of it to our xBHP brotherhood which kept you all along throughout the trip..

PPS: I too have a humble FZ & deeply growing urge to visit LEH in 2011.. But your experiences with FZ is making me think again over it..

Anyways Cheers Bro.. Finish the trip log soon..

                          Thanks for the compliments.

The FZ is a competent bike and you can easily take it to Leh. I did not want to carry out some jugaad before trying official changes. That is the only reason why my bike did not climb Chang La. Had I done that jugaad earlier, it would have easily climbed up. It is really a nice bike for Leh or other rides.

                          • We all got up late in the day, got ready and went out for breakfast. By the time, we went out is was nearly 11 am. Saw a fairly good restaurant just outside our hotel but paaji wanted to check other options. We had a varied option of dhaba style restaurants around 100 metres from our hotel at a place called Shiv Market. However, all were finished with breakfast menu and the only items available were for lunch. After spending 20 minutes searching around, finally went to the first restaurant we had seen and had breakfast.

                            Train tickets:
We had booked multiple tickets for Jammu to Pune journey. First was for Aman, Rudra, Inder and me on Rajdhani Express, second for all of us on Zelum express. Both these tickets were only for Jammu to Delhi stretch since at the time of booking; couple of months back, the wait list had zoomed to infinity with no chance of confirmation for Jammu to Pune journey on Zelum.

Since our Zelum ticket was not confirmed but Rajdhani ticket was, I went in for cancellation of Zelum ticket. Rudra and Inder went to parcel office to make enquiries. After waiting in the queue for nearly one hour, finally collected refund and got out.

In the mean time Rudra had booked his bike as luggage. He even managed to sale his 5-6 ltr. Petrol at Rs.250. We contemplated checking out from our hotel and keeping our bags in the cloak room. However, the cloakroom accepts only locked luggage. There was no chance of us locking all the available zippers of saddle, tank bags and sacks so we abandoned this idea.

While Rudra was booking his bike, Inder went to parcel office and enquired about procedure for sending bikes as parcel (since we were not travelling in Zelum Express till Pune). We all returned to our hotel and started packing.

Check out time from the hotel was 12 noon but I had negotiated it till 1.30 pm. However, we all decided to spend all possible time in the room till they threw us out. Our train was at 7.45 pm and we did not have any where to put in our luggage. By 2.15 pm, hotel person got restless and finally by 2.30 pm, we left our room.

Rudra suggested us getting a retiring room at the station itself. It was a brilliant idea. I dropped Rudra with his luggage to book a room and me & Inder left for parcel office to pack and book our bikes.

We both got our bikes packed at some Rs.200 each. The bonus to packers and nearby policemen was fuel from our bikes. Rudra & Inder both wanted to carry couple of litres with them. We kept that much and gave all away free of cost. The packing at Jammu was much much better than Pune station.

Forms etc. were filled up earlier in the day. Handed them over to the parcel clerk and he refused to accept the parcel saying he has to close his books, finalise accounts and then leave by 5.00 pm. No amount of cajoling would move him. I was fuming by this time. I stomped off to the Head of Parcel department located in the next building. Here also, he refused to accept parcel saying the clerk has lot of work to do and to come next day. We had a train after couple of hours. I had a contact in Jammu who could do it on next day but wanted to try it myself so as not to bother him.

By this time, we all were exhausted and were also happy that we reached Jammu the day before. If we had left from Katra in the morning, we would be wrecks by this time. We relaxed in the retiring room till train time.

Found two couples from Thane in our compartment. Couple of minutes after train left, I started smelling petrol. As you would know, it is illegal to carry it in train. I was extremely worried. As we had stashed our saddlebags below seat, there was no way, we could remove petrol bottles without anyone else noticing. I asked Inder and Rudra and they also confirmed that they smelt petrol. We had a game plan for that. I engaged the Marathi couples in discussion about their tour, Rudra got his deo out and saying it is hot, sprayed in the whole compartment and kept on doing that for next 10 minutes.

Rajdhani food was good and we ended our day. Next day would be last day of our journey bringing new surprises with it.
