Wow, I was thinking it was the other way around! Pardon me the noob question. Can you elaborate on this? Is it because the inner tube in the tubed tyres act as a second skin? Also, fixing a puncture in tubeless tyre is virtually painless if you have a hand pump and the kit. Is it the compromise between too many punctures that are fixed easily VS. very few punctures that are relatively harder to fix. I can understand that many breaks taken to fix the puncture can hamper the momentum of travel. Can you also share some experiences with the tyres? I always thought punctures are the most common cause of delay in a road trip (after an empty tank :P)Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostI was also on the lookout for a replacement tyre for the FZ. FZ stock tire is radial tubeless. Chances of punctures due to stones is extremely high in Ladakh ride so searched everywhere for a replacement tyre. Rishabh, being a FZ owner also pitched in but no one had it in stock.
I am planning for a LEH trip later next year and was planning to replace my tyres with something that a better grip as my first purchase. Now, I am rethinking what tyre to choose

1. Absolutely nothing happened with tyres. Did not check air pressure even once in the whole tour so no experiences with tyres. They did their job.
2. Tubeless tyres are better than tyres with tubes. They don't get punctured much and even if you get a puncture, you can keep on riding till you have time to get it fixed.
3. Punctures you get in city are mainly due to nails. Nails puncture your tyre but also remain stuck with the tyre. So only the small area around its head allows air to leak out leading to very gentle air loss.
4. While riding on rough roads, punctures mainly happen due to sharp stones. They pierce your tyre so the air loss is very fast.
5. FZ has tubeless radial tyres as standard. This tyre, because of its nature, is smooth on the outside leading to more chances of punctures. An aftermarket tyre with studes / buttons (like you will find in any low end motorcycle / off road bikes) will have thicker rubber portions on the tyre leading to less chance of a puncture.
6. I carried a spare tube for my tubeless tyres in case I bent my rim and had no means to get it back in shape.
I hope this answers your query.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I own one, but I noticed that my tear is wearing out... (as in visible cracks that are kinda deep). So I am looking forward to replace my tyre soon. Obviously, one of the things that caught my eye reading your trip log was your replacement of the stock tyre with a tubed one.Originally posted by trustvishwas View Post

Did you go in for the tubed version just because tubeless tyres with better threads were not available at the time?
I understand that FZ's tyre may not be ideal for the kind of terrain you get in Kashmir, so getting the tyre replaced seems to be a sensible decision.

The tyre I had put on was tubeless. I was just carrying a tube with me in case I hit something hard and bent my bike's rim.
90% Kashmir terrain is fine. Problem was with some missing roads.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
