If you've to get this done, first you need to believe in yourself & get rid off all the nitty gritties & just focus on the ride, getting to know where the ATM's, fuel stations, basically the map. All other things are immaterial.

Forget the engine oil change, tire pressure, cables etc, like I said before

Do a route check on a weekend; ride all way from Pune to BLR on a Saturday & BLR to Pune on a Sunday, trust me, you'll start thinking about BB ride, not about SS anymore.

It's not fear but I do feel that I'm overthinking it..you just said exactly what I needed to hear man...thanks.

Don't worry about the outcome, your bike is more than perfect to do it, like I said before, you're the limit.

Work on the mapping part, you'll get a mental picture as where to stop & what to look for; you can get rid off that much additional headache when you ride + your confidence will boost up tremendously.

Don't keep thinking about it, just do it.

To put it simply, Just Did it!

        1657kms in 21hrs 19 mins. Pune-Bangalore-Pune route.

        Start time: Sat 24th March,2012 1.30AM
        End time : Sat 24th March,2012 10.46PM

Will create a log and post pics soon.

Thank Aargee,Juris,Nav.Your inputs helped a lot.

Manwhile,I'm rather happy to ask some (post-ride )questions about applying for the certificate.

Can we apply and send the documents online or do we have to send it to them by mail?

Second,my end time proof is an ATM receipt and not a fuel station receipt. Is that ok ?

Third,Do I have to pay the fee now or after it gets apporved?

        Any help is appreciated.

              Congrats forcooler!!!!,
Now if u wouldnt mind i have some questions of my own to ask you.
how were the road conditions throughout and wat average speed did you maintain??
and also wat all did you carry with you(as in eatables and stuff)??
More follow up questions are on their way as i plan to do a saddlesore on the same route on 23rd september(my birthday) this year if the rain gods permit
              Once again congratulations

Congrats mate.... Glad that everything went smooth.... Wondering about your end fuel receipt. When you had all the time in the world, you should have taken a fuel receipt .

For applications just send a query mail with all your questions to IBA - World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders . In the reply they ll tell you the steps/procedure to send your application. On the IBA SS page(SaddleSore 1000/Bun Burner 1500 Rules) you ll get the steps and procedure to send your application. Draft your application, review it to ensure you have all the proofs in the same order as mentioned in SS page and than send it to the IBA's mail. You ll get system generated acknowledgement. Once they are verifying your ride, they ll contact you.

Just to add, only when IBA verifies your ride, they ll ask to pay the verification fee(Slab mentioned in SS page). You can be sure of certification only when your ride has been verified and you have been asked to pay the amount. Till that golden moment you need to have patience and bear with them.(6-8 weeks of waiting period at times)

Sorry for the late reply,I've been greeted by a hectic week at work after the amazing weekend.Anyway road conditions are brilliant.Divided almost throughout(except for the Hubli-Dharwad Bypass).

There are a few diversions due to construction post Haveri/Davangere but if you pass these sections in daylight, they're easy to spot.

Average speed you can maintain comfortably is 100-105.(on a 220).You could go faster in a higher capacity bikes(in Karnataka sections).I was doing 100-105 with intermittent bursts to 120(just for fun, didn't need to as such)

I carried gatorade, dry fruits and a bag of chips and chocolates.BUT,ended up only drinking the gatorade(x3) and half a choco-bar,thats just me though,I didnt want a heavy stomach

I must say that attempting this in the rainy season is the greatest of ideas, esp. because quite a few sections are concrete roads, and as I'm sure you know wet concrete roads are even worse!

Anyway I'll be glad to answer any of your queries.

Thing is, even at the start point I had to take an ATM receipt because the fuel station I had chosen suddenly had a malfunctioning bill printer.(and no open nearby stations at 1.30 AM ).So then I thought making the same ATM,the end point would be logical.I hope the IBA guys see the logic in this decsion.

i figured that even if it doesnt rain at the beginning of the ride it does not mean it wont rain throughout the entire ride, so am planning to do it mid October or start of November after the rains have completely stopped.
I'm Hoping that by that time all the construction work that u faced would have also been completed and i wouldnt have to face diversions.
I will be attempting it on my r15 and will try to maintain an average speed of 95kmph.
Wont be having to take many pee breaks because i am generally not a person who drinks a lot of water, and during winter the heat conditions would not be so harsh to cause dehydration either.
Now that everything else has been planned all i need is some insight from people who travel from this road regularly as to how to time my ride so that i have to face minimal traffic, once thats done i'm set and all i have to do is wait
Thank's a ton for helping me out by giving me alll the information i needed

i just remembered i have another question, u said that u used a atm reciept as proof from the start point, doesn't the IBA also require a witness who is willing to testify for the rider??

Anyway, just to add closure to this thread,I applied and did get the saddlesore certificate from the IBA a couple of weeks back(Name on the list is Apratim Pranay,Pune,P220fi).

It's a great feeling to recieve the certificate, but not nearly as great as you feel when you're actually riding and experiencing the ride.

Congratulations buddy on getting your ride certified

I too completed SS1610 about three weeks back. Last week mailed the documents. I hope you could answer few questions for me.

                              1. How did you submit your documents? Via Post or via email? If via post, then was it registered post or ordinary post?

                              2. How many fuel receipts/ ATM receipts did you send as part of your documentation?

                              3. How long did IBA take to certify your ride, and how did they intimate you?

                              4. How did you make the payment?

Eagerly awaiting response from your end.

Congrats once again. job well done
