    ^ @Sachin

Will love to answer you question. However a little must be told about my motorcycle.

I own a 2012 Yamaha Fazer, and I have am original Leo Vince exhaust. When I installed the Leo Vince exhaust, I had UNI conical air-filter in my bike. The bike gained some easily noticeable pick-up and my top speed increased by 5 kmph. I could easily do 115 with stock spares. However, with UNI and Leo Vince, I could attain 119-120 with ease. If not 120, getting above 100 was quick and easy.

One fine day, I changed to K&N at my whims. With K&N, the exhaust sound became dull compared to UNI. I did not pay attention to pick-up. But achieving top speed of 117 was getting difficult.

Then one fine day, I again switched back to UNI. And boy, the difference in pick-up was again noticeable. The gorgeous sound of the Leo Vince exhaust was obtained back. My bike was again a headturner and jaw-dropper!

I have been using UNI filter for the last 4 months, and K&N had been used for 1 month. The tire pressures and chain-lubrication were maintained so that they do no eat into the benefits.

    I prefer UNI to K&N.

    Now, points to consider:
    Mileage: No real difference.
Gain in horsepower: Too little to be even called modest. FZ16 has produced some 13.4 hp at stock state. I do no expect even half an unit of power gain.
K&N conical filter costs upwards of Rs. 2400 while UNI conical(cylindrical) costs about Rs. 1500(at Lamington/Alibai Mumbai)
Sound: It just changes the sound to something different than it is found on most of the stock bikes. Don't expect racing type sound.

In my opinion, you can spend your money in better ways.

    Hello
I am planning to replace my stock filter with a K&N filter for my fz 16. Is K&N YA-1611 the right one. I checked out K&N official and it says the filter leads to increase horsepower and acceleration while providing excellent filtration.I have even come across people who seem to get better mileage after installing them. Does this upgrade really help? I really need some advice before going for it as i don't want to cause any harm to the vehicle. I would also love to know the advantages and disadvantages of this product on my bike.

    K&N

I hope many of the guys here heard about & are very much keen to know bout K&N filters. So what exactly is this K&N?? K&N is a brand name of a filter manufacturing company. They claim to manufacture "free flow" filters. By "free flow" , they refer to more air being pumped into the engine easily. So what is the result?
1- More air means more oxygen.
2-more oxygen means more combustion .....right??

    WRONG!!

An engine is essentially an air pump. You can try to bring as much air as you want through the intake, but the engine is only going to take in what it can exhaust. So if the exhaust can't push the amount of air that the intake can pull....guess what? You've just wasted your money.

Secondly ...oxygen is not going to burn by itself!!... U have to feed your engine with sufficient fuel in order to get the maximum output.

Thirdly... the company has designed the bike's air filter such a way to allow maximum air inside the combustion chamber. So any further volume of air ...without that much of fuel is not helping you in any way. So that means it you increase the fuel , u are compromising on your bike's mileage!!

    What bout the SOUND???

The sound you will hear from K&N filter installed bike's & cars is commonly known as "induction sound"... which is "undesirable" and companies try their best to dampen such sounds. That is why your stock filter is placed inside a box.

So when you a K&N is installed , people usually remove the air filter box.. this results in the induction sound that people are so fond of. The point is even if you install your stock filter outside the box , it makes the same sound!! TRY IT!! And also if you install a k&N inside the filter box , you are no way going to enjoy the K&N sound

    POWER??

K&N are said to deliver a little bit of more power than the stock filters. Now the question is a ..the bikes are just 11-20BHP engine...so if you are expecting the bike to produce 2 - 3 BHP extra with the k&N ...then tell me why the hell company did not do that?? Confused?

    Filter BOX REMOVAL??

It is recommended to remove the filter box when installing a K&N. This is marketing , basically. the inlet of the filter box has an opening of a certain area that is more than enough for the engine's air intake per cycle. So whether the filter is outside the box or inside...its practically the same.

    So why K&N ??

K&N are used in very high performance engines which are capable of produceing 100+ BHP ..and at those levels , it makes some significant difference. Its basic use is in racing or rally cars & bikes...where even a 2 BHP matters a lot!!

    CONCLUSION???
Its you who decides .... GOOD LUCK!!

Yes, I too would agree with this one. I have a Leo Vince exhaust. When Leo Vince was installed, I had UNI filters. The exhaust sound was amazing. It would turn heads for sure. But the day I replaced it with K&N, the exhaust sound became weaker and did not live upto my expectation.

I am now considering if I should adjust the fuel-air ratio, or should I simple go back to using UNI filter.

One of the dealer say it does not come for 135, install the filter of 150 in it, it will run ok with it.
is it ok to install that or what option i should go for ?

I am a newbie so detailed instruction would be much better.
    Thank You.

But now its time to replace the roller's and i will be trying various combinations.. desperately need to get hold of a proper tool kit
heh ! I want to just get my rollers changed ( Or eevne better I will change them ) As of upjetting, I can do some variations in my fuel mixture and turn it in a little rich.. And as of stock My Fellow ASC's asses did a great job on screwing ALL the Stock~ness in just First free service Anyhoo... Thankyou for the help ! and Let me know if you do some modding in your Dio !

Prince 18th I highly doubt that adding a freeflow Filter to Activa or Aviator can cause such damage to the interior of the engine... What your mech told you when he checked the cause of it ? Was it JUST the airfilter or something else too ?

    Thankyou !

.. How can i get my hands on the bigger jets for my aviator and, what is the standard size of the jet !?

the advantage i have with the dio is i can compare the parts with the UK model (called the honda scv 100 lead, which is the dio that is/was imported to UK)
doing the mod you mentioned(with 1 gram lower weights) will give you a bit of a push at low end (if you just richen the mixture without upjetting)
