I am planning to replace my stock filter with a K&N filter for my fz 16. Is K&N YA-1611 the right one. I checked out K&N official and it says the filter leads to increase horsepower and acceleration while providing excellent filtration.I have even come across people who seem to get better mileage after installing them. Does this upgrade really help? I really need some advice before going for it as i don't want to cause any harm to the vehicle. I would also love to know the advantages and disadvantages of this product on my bike.

Will love to answer you question. However a little must be told about my motorcycle.
I own a 2012 Yamaha Fazer, and I have am original Leo Vince exhaust. When I installed the Leo Vince exhaust, I had UNI conical air-filter in my bike. The bike gained some easily noticeable pick-up and my top speed increased by 5 kmph. I could easily do 115 with stock spares. However, with UNI and Leo Vince, I could attain 119-120 with ease. If not 120, getting above 100 was quick and easy.
One fine day, I changed to K&N at my whims. With K&N, the exhaust sound became dull compared to UNI. I did not pay attention to pick-up. But achieving top speed of 117 was getting difficult.
Then one fine day, I again switched back to UNI. And boy, the difference in pick-up was again noticeable. The gorgeous sound of the Leo Vince exhaust was obtained back. My bike was again a headturner and jaw-dropper!
I have been using UNI filter for the last 4 months, and K&N had been used for 1 month. The tire pressures and chain-lubrication were maintained so that they do no eat into the benefits.
I prefer UNI to K&N.
Now, points to consider:
Mileage: No real difference.
Gain in horsepower: Too little to be even called modest. FZ16 has produced some 13.4 hp at stock state. I do no expect even half an unit of power gain.
K&N conical filter costs upwards of Rs. 2400 while UNI conical(cylindrical) costs about Rs. 1500(at Lamington/Alibai Mumbai)
Sound: It just changes the sound to something different than it is found on most of the stock bikes. Don't expect racing type sound.
In my opinion, you can spend your money in better ways.

I had tried k&n filter with fz16 and honda dio with an free flow exhaust made by my friend..
But I never felt any difference with it..
Later I removed my old cd dawns filter box's cover then it sounds pretty good than that of k&n without changing the exhaust...
And now I dont feel that vibration when touching 60 or 70 on the speedo with that 100cc engine.

Depends upon its year and model. It maybe 112.5, 115 or 117.5.Originally posted by SangamaroraWhich size jets are used for rejetting...for pulsar 150cc crab... ??

And the new jet size? That depends too upon what kind of filter you're installing... For RC 1060, it has to be bigger by 7.5 points approximately.
I have a Pulsar 180 UG3, on which I did install K&N RC 1060 once. I used a 125 jet from Karizma instead of 117.5. And it went very well, I used to love its roar.
But you or your mechanic must know how to tune the Air Fuel Ratio. That is a must.
That pipe is the crankcase ventilation pipe. If you leave it open, engine oil will get dirty.Originally posted by SangamaroraI just had installed k&n filter(rc-1060) in my pulsar 150cc ug3.. So, you should cover it with a layer of double cloth material for some "filtration" of the air that goes in and comes out of it, due to piston movement.---

Your bike must be running lean. Like I told you before, get a Karizma jet #125 because no other jet comes between 120-122. Do these things:Originally posted by Sangamarora View PostThe model is 2007 ug3... The place where I live... Is just a small town... So here no one a mechanic knws abt that... When I ask them... 1. Firstly, protect the filter from dust/ rain. Use a compatible Air box from the market which fits your bike. OR Try wrapping it with some kind of cloth or something atleast.
2. Warm it up by riding 1-2 kms, start the bike in neutral and put it on main stand. Don't touch the accelerator. Let it run started on "idle rpm". Does the tacho needle move up and down, in an unstable manner? If yes, then you should rejet. Get a bigger jet for your bike, like the Karizma's main jet.
3. Turn the fuel knob to "Off". When its off, see the below diagram and open these 2 screws to see the main jet. You will see the main jet. Just rotate & unscrew it carefully and replace the jet. Rejetting is done.
4. After re-jetting, you need to fine tune the AFR... Locate the "AFR screw" on your bike. Keep it on full tight position (right side= tight I think).
5. Now, turn the fuel screw to "on/reserve". Start the bike, the rpm needle should move up and down like earlier.... Increase the idle rpm through twisting the idle rpm screw with your hand... Make the Idle rpm around 2.5 krpm for now...
6. Keep the bike started. The rpm needle will move up and down in unstable manner, like earlier. Slowly, make the AFR screw looser and looser, until the rpm needle is stable. Then, when rpm is stable, reduce the rpm to around 1400 using the idle rpm screw again.
That's it. Your bike is tuned....!
Now, you can ride it hard, but remember, do not leave the K&N open... It will attract dust and kill your engine in 1-2 years. Then, it would be more expense.
Keep the K&N filter clean, according to company instructions. Don't get it cleaned at Service Centre's air pump, as it will damage the filter.
Use the below diagram to understand the above underlined terms:

In my humble opinion it wont increase milage of the bike sure you would get better sound but it comes with the power lag at times i had one i told fzs power output remains the same, company filter is way more better.:thumbup:Originally posted by sachin_v View PostHello
