Finally landed on this page after searching for something related to detailing...glad
@Aargee - I totally agree with lot of your observations with respect to detailing especially one related to Pressure washing and mumbo jumbo terms used by detailers in Chennai and surrounding areas. Though I wouldn't entirely term detailing as eye wash by these guys but professionals (ex. trained by 3M or like) do a great job and provide us with really eye opening thoughts.
Coming back to my query -
There is a war going on among the detailing community about use of Silicone polishes and waxes. What is the real reason behind this ? I have personally used Waxpol Silicone polish on my dad's Bajaj Classic SL (painted plastic parts and metal) and on Pulsar 150 2006. It has given me excellent results for nearly a decade now. But, I have seen some people giving a very negative thoughts on use of Silicone polishes and grading them as mere eye wash.
Any thoughts on this guys?Safe riding prolongs life (bike & rider & public)

Me too had the same thoughts. But the silicone polishes like those from pidilite(cream polish) have written instructions Not to be used on vinyls and plastic parts. Sole reason why I restrained.Originally posted by Prith View PostFinally landed on this page after searching for something related to detailing...glad

Hmm... I was bit careless and did not check the label before applying same on the vinyls..the good part is that it did not cause any discoloration till date and water beading is one of the best (I will dub it as cheap version of Collinite 845). The depth of Silicone products is actually good enough and shine factor is something that I have not seen matched by Carnauba ones. Something fishy.Originally posted by Arun Magus View PostMe too had the same thoughts. Totally agree. But Chinese 3M products have flooded India market very badly. I was duped with a Chinese 3M wax tub. Though it did not behave as a paste wax should during application, but gave good beading effect. My brother now uses it for lubing his Pulsar 220 parts. Consistency is almost like White lithium.Originally posted by shahbaz63 View PostI Would recommend 3M always ...Safe riding prolongs life (bike & rider & public)

off course you won't get them in 50rs, so think wisely when you see price tag
There is always Original & Copy, we should choose wisely

Yup..know that.. the tub that I bought was 700 bucks hard cash and it was from detailing vendor who was authorized 3M sun cover agent. And this is not the case in India alone, there are several posts in web infact a lot from middle east, europe and S.E.Asia where people mistook it from real deal. It is so convincing and the only give away was that there is a small mistake on the tub cover where "and" is spelled "abd".Originally posted by shahbaz63 View Postoff course you won't get them in 50rs, so think wisely when you see price tag

Just wanted to know if someone here has used Car Brite products especially their Weather Shield product. Heard that it gives much better paint sealant protection than its competitors, but hard to get in India.Safe riding prolongs life (bike & rider & public)

For the past few days I have been researching a lot on 'Engine Degreasers'. A lot of product reviews and videos on YouTube did enhance my knowledge about the product but nonetheless, I need to try it out before believing what I saw. As mentioned in the initial posts of this thread, sunilyo and RG have mentioned about this. However, I am skeptical about using it on my painted engine but still want a product that helps me reclaim the engine's original 'black' shine. Trapping of hard water in the Engine Head (fins) and hard to reach areas has resulted in whitish layers on it, leading to a clumsy look.
The YouTube Help:
From the video, one of the better products seems like the Motul degreaser (Aerosol spray can does not contain acetone/-ols). But again, not sure whether it can be used on Painted engine surfaces without any corrosive effects. I believe, this engine degreaser is quintessentially a WD-40 like product, which also acts like a cleaner. More than de-greasing, I wish to bring back the original black finish and shine of my engine. For the record, I have a Hero Hunk 2012 double disk model.
Any leads, anyone?
Thanks in anticipation

Scrub it well with hard toothbrush and a bowl of kerosene . Follow up with a bowl of warm dishwash solution(pril) and rinse with water . After drying you can shine it with waxpol liquid silicone polish like everything else . If there are scratches and areas of lost paint , touch up with matching colour ordinary enamel paint(tiny cans of berger luxol) on a fine artist's brush . Ride a few days for the paint to dry before polish then .Originally posted by BloggingWheels View PostFor the past few days I have been researching a lot on 'Engine Degreasers'. .... The petroleum fraction that forms the base of wd40 is essentially same as kerosene . However, most common degreasers today are citrus based and not petroleum .Last edited by Pinaki; 12-25-2012, 12:03 AM.

Jay Ho Kerosene Devta!! For all those who are reading this and elsewhere on the forum, Pinaki da is perhaps the only guy (in the World) whose every solution revolves around kerosene! It well might be the case that he is a government deployed officer under cover who promotes kerosene as an Indian equivalent of WD-40 and other US (aerosol) cleaners! It amazes me no end that how most of his solutions revolve around kerosene; his projection of kerosene as the omnipotent chemical sometimes makes me think that this man must have been in the petrochemical fractionating industry and thus his obsession with kero!!!
But seriously, hats off to this guy, really!
Queries:
1. The engine color does not look like a 'jet-black' finish. It is more of a powder coated thing - with a ting of 'metallic' touch to the same. Touching it up with a black enamel might make it look cheap.
2. How to polish the 'fins' of the engine head? I mean the space between two consecutive fins?
3. Won't washing with warm Pril solution take off the natural shine of the same?
4. While brushing with kero, any chances/problems if the kero seeps in some engine parts? Possible areas include the electrical(s)/starter motor and possibly turning into a ignitable agent when the engine runs? Or leaving any deposits after the kero has evaporated off?
5. Can a SPRAY kerosene? Filling up old Colins spray bottles with your magic potion!
