Great topic, learnt few more things, that i alread learnt on the field, i personally had me with accidents 4 times, twice with my friends who were driving & i was the pillion ( 1 frien bumped over a small bump down the hill with clutch pulled in, didnt noticed that small bump, THANKGOD UNCLE WHO HE CRASHED INTO, WENT HOME WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING) & my other friend bumped a indica from back, not noticing the indica coming from left from the partking without any lights or horn during dark eve, as even thou my friend didnt noticed wat was coming in front of him) twice when i was riding alone ( 1'st time when i was on linkrd in mumbai coming from juhu to malad, when i bumped into a speed breaker, @ 3;15 am, in the long stretch of rd, there was only 2 speedbreakers on an empty rd, i was ridin @ 100, when i saw the breaker, i tired to slow down, i reached 80, the bike jumped, & sum alcoholic left his beer bottle for me in the middle of the rd, for me to slip on it, & damn, i crashed, i woke up, chking for my cellphone & my frames & then kept the bike to the side, eve i i had few bruses, had a difficulty breathing after the fall, i managed to reach home safely,

& then 2'nd time hppned when i cross-tracking a speed breaking, didnt noticed the mud just in fron of it, did a sharp turn & whiiips ... slipped, the bike turned 180degree, & then off the bike, stood up & then went to office riding the bike.

I know with machines comes responsibility, even thou i drive they way i want to, i try to make i do meet with any accidents while on signal or racing thru traffic with other guy on highway, i know .. what i feel my bike cud handle, i rearely touch my limit of my bike, even thou i know i can, i know i wont cuaz i love my bike, & myself too

Good going people, keep posting .. share ur experince for any accidents u might/ may not be able to avoid. !!

Remember, you could be doing 30 km/h but the guy who comes and crashes into you could be doing 90-100 km/h.

One thing that i would like to add here is to understand the road if you are a riding on that road for the first time. You never know where a pothole might come up. You will always have a better idea of the traffic on the road if you are using it for daily commute.
I always have a pillion when i ride. Its my guardian angel.

Kool one buddy thats the best practice when you are moving on a road unknown to you, when ever i ride out to some inknown place or riding on road after a long gap, i always use to observe the road carefully in such cases best pratice is to ride slow, keep your eyes on the road and some times other commuters might help you out but what you need to do is observe carefully.

Avoiding accidents n being a safe rider, i a skill in itself..
Our brain needs to be predicting things possible on the road and preparing to avoid it, simultaneously while having complete control of the bike..
predicting what the driver in front of u may just do in the next instant is proballyt the most important one..
besides i must say Riding like a mature Biker one any road makes the difference..

Now a days i have started using engine breaking to slowdown from high speeds.

Wont over using engine breaking, cause harm to the engine itself ?
I mean the engine is stressed to get the rpms down isnt it?

i would say use engine braking is for emergent cases, now a days bikes are attached with good disk brakes at front and nicer drums at rear and are being provided in almost every bike, use them in 40:60 ratio for safe breaking, and if done with engine breaking it can stop you within few meters.

                      Well IMHO, I feel....

A person crashes or meets with an accident,

                      1) Because of carelessness.

                      2) Becuase he / she looses confidence.
e.g. while over taking do not give a second thought, as there might be a person who is waiting for you to over take and awaiting the turn to do the same. And that moment if you happen to brake every thing goes WRONG!

                      3) Because of over confidence.

There is more thing on the roads that can be a reason for accidents.....2 Bikers (on different bikes) talking to each other and concentrating less on the road

                          My two cents...
Be careful when riding on concrete roads, they are generally more slippery (offer less traction) compared to asphalt (tar roads).

also in some places (almost all intersections in Pune) the dumbass corporation has put interlocking cement bricks instead of road. when the road is even slightly wet the bike will aquaplane. Moreover, tyres tend to bounce off the slight gaps and you can easily lose your balance...how do i know, both skids I have had in 6 years of riding happened in these areas.

In the rains, keep the tyre pressure off by 1-2 psi. The contact patch of your tyres will increase.

Before starting off, everytime - I know this sounds foolish, but will help...check your tyres (tread) for any Foreign objects like stones/nails etc. Remove them (if you use tubeless tyres or tuff-up tubes dont remove the small nails, instead ride slowly to a puncture repair shop and get it removed. )

Buy a good helmet, and by good I mean a good brand with certification (ISI standards set by the BIS are as good as if not better than ECE)...dont buy helmets for looks.

Many times I have also seen bikers ride with slightlyoffset rims/forks. In the interest of your own safety...PLEASE dont do this. the repair costs couple hundred bucks...
Riding the BULL....(with out the LET)...

Ride Safe...you owe it to the person who will be affected if you didn't

Guys, while we may drive defensively, wear helmets and safety gear, follow traffic rules, what about these morons? No helmet, talking on mobile phone with one hand while the other hand is controlling the scooter and that too riding with a pillion.

A two wheeler is designed to carry two people. One driver and the pillion. Who told? What the heck??? It is designed to carry as many as you can stuff.

i started biking during my 12th..
since then its been 2 yrs of riding bikes and i ve had 3 falls....

first one was when i was riding a rtr with a pillion...it was raining tat day and we had to rush home....but still we travelled at speeds around 40..
i slightly touched the rear brake(drum) causing wheel lock....it was a slow fall the pillion rider was sayin machhhhiiii and suddenly we were sliding on the wet road with the pillion on top of me!!
rtr slided and hit the median no damage to me because of the helmet...
                              we had slight scratches.....
                              2nd accident:
myself and the same friend were riding in my hunk to mobile shop.....
we were travelling on the extreme left of the road...and suddenly a auto driver comin in the wrong way hit us and again we were kissing the road...
this time my friend was sliding with the bike we had some scraches and again was saved because of helmet....thank god...
                              3rd accident:
this is the most serious accident and it happened 3 months before...
i was on my way to a urgent meet...the same old pal was my pillion
we were doing around 70...i was wearin a helmet with tinted glass...we were going fine and my friend told machiiiii i was sure im gonna fall after after the word before anything i could do...we hit a splendor guy who was peeping with his front wheel in a crossing...we hit and again slided but this time i was sliding with the bike for 2 mtrs i think...i came to a halt...people gathered and helped us....i had some cuts in ma left near fingers and a big area of skin was peeled off in ma right hand....
i was in bandages for 1 month...
again thank god i was saved...

guys my advice is please wear helmet..
its a life saver...even in ma coll many think helmets only cause accidents...i feel bad for them..

itz just that you have to ride according to conditions and 99% of times u will not meet any accident
