  • ^hmm....i'll probably go to jc road(Bangalore) coming monday and thought of getting 10w30 semi synth/full synth to help me with cbr run-in. Will change it at 100/500 and 1000km.

Any pointers abt the product / pricing would be of much help. .

    Castrol : Power 1 10W-40 again...din find 10w-30
Castrol : Activ Xtra - 10W-30 (fully synth?...)

    Shell : Shell Advance AX5 10w-30
    Advance AX7 10w-40

Really.. Impart some knowledge about engine oils to your mechanic or he's gonna screw up a lot of clutch plates and what not...

Well. I thought i might be at mistake here and mentioned the wrong engine oil. I really have less or no knowledge abt the engine oils and the brands.
So I called up my mechaninc once again to confirm which engine oil is being used on my bike. ANd he confirms back that it indeed is Castrol GTX. And then i told him that it was for Cars. and he said that it does not matter whther its for Cars or Bikes. I told him that next tim i'll bring the engine oil.

So according to you guys, which engine oil is best? and whats the recommended viscometrics of an engine oil to be used on Gladiator? And also any pointers to where i can get it in Chennai.

          Thanks.

          Cheers,

If you are looking for engine oil it has got to be Motul my friend check the user manual for your bike that should tell you which oil grade is good for your bike.

                • Hi guys, going for first servicing on monday (RTR 180)..I asked the A.S.S.whether i can bring any engine oil i want..And they said, surely sir no problem
Which engine oil should i use?
I dont want to use TVS engine oil as it leads to overheating after riding some kms

P.S I had changed engine oil to Elf Moto4Gold 20W40 at 180kms on odo!

4500 minimum.. Change the oil early just to be safe and then you can keep extending the drainage period depending on the quality of the oil that's drained..

Actually I have heard about this oil(moto 4xt) in this thread itself, he had use this in pulsar220 I guess. drain period is @5k but you may need some top - ups in between. So keep a check on oil level.
Regarding castrol power 1 racing 10w50, I think this is very good oil. KetanR15 used this for his leh tour & was mighty impressed with this oil. Even I am waiting to get my hands on this oil (won this can in 'go to ladakh with castrol contest')

My query is... the import date is Dec 2008 and the pack is fully sealed. Can i use this oil on my next service? BTW, is there any expiry date or something as regards engine oils?

Can't wait to fill it and feel the difference, yeah post 6000 rpm

sealed oil packs do not have any expiry date as such but avoid sun light before tampering it, also go ahead and enjoy the feel of 5100.
An opened oil pack might get damaged due to difference is surrounding temperature and exposure to outside dirt (2008-2011) very long exposure to dirt. since its packed you can use it.
