Why do numbers on both the sides carry different meanings? Why does number on one side better as it gets progressively greater and vice versa?

What is viscosity Flexiblity of oil to maintain a specific level of density under wide operating temparatures or viscosity=ability to free flow?

Sorry for too many questions. But I didnt understand the logic
Viscosity is an internal property of a fluid that offers resistance to flow

basically viscosity is the resistance offered bya liquid to flow
more easily it flows ,the less viscous the liquid is and vice versa.

10 w yy is more free flowing than 20 w yy at 0 degree Celsius.

and to get rid of your confusion

treat both the numbers on left and right as individual entities

lower on left the better and higher on right the better

      • Gosh... this thread seems to have become a free for all...

        Anyway,

        Gulf Pride is semi synth.

Quite the opposite dude! More the liquid is viscous the lesser it will flow.

thanks, why i asked is "only 10w30 is labeled as synthetic blend and they didn't mentioned for 20w40"

              • ^^^ Oh oh... is that so? Are you sure its not mentioned on the pack? Its probably not semi synthetic then. But its still supposed to be good... considering user feed back of people on xbhp and also of friends.

The 10W30 is definitely semi-synth... am using that as of now.

                You could also consider Elf.

                • Raccoon, how do you rate Gulf 10W30 when compared to other same-rated oils, in your personal experience. Planning to use at my next fill.

I've tried Gulf semi-synth twice so far Ravi - and I can tell you straight off that HH 10W30 mineral oil is far better.

Thanks Naveen. Will use only HH oil.

I changed over to Gulf Pride 10W30 from HH Idemitsu oil. Have mentioned this before - the Gulf oil outperforms the Idemitsu by a fairly large margin. Bike is smoother, acceleration is better, engine heats up bit less.

Changed to this oil in March and still using it. After experiencing the change in my bike, I have no intention of returning to the HH oil. Just try it. You wont touch the HH oil after that.

Best thing is that it costs nearly the same as HH oils.

IMO, Gulf Pride is the best option for people who don't want to spend on expensive fully synth oil.

                            • I'm happiest when my bike feels smooth, the kind of feeling you get when a full service is performed and the oil changed. I'd like this feeling to last all the time. This is what I want most out of the bike, I'm not as concerned about longevity of the oil, power, overheating, etc. (Not that the Karizma overheats in the real sense).

Unfortunately, when about 1500km are done after an oil change, the engine smoothness begins to fall away and by about 2000km, the urge to change the oil sets in because of reduced engine smoothness. I normally change the oil at this point, if not earlier. I perform all oil changes myself, I don't trust the service center or mechanic here.

IMO the Karizma has a smooth engine, but its smoothness is no match for the Unicorn-based engine that the new HH 150cc bikes sport.

I'll also go so far to say that a Karizma is more 'sensitive' to the type of oil used, especially if it is smoothness you're after. (do other Karizma owners feel this way too?)
You cannot compare the performance of an oil in a Karizma to the same oil used in a CBZX, Hunk or Unicorn.

Both times I used Gulf semi-synth back to back, I ended up changing the oil soon after a mere 1000 km were done since the smoothness I'm used to was not apparent even immediately after the oil change. The same goes for Power1 10W30, although I'd personally rate it higher than Gulf S-S.

I've now reached the conclusion that mineral oils are best and use only HH 10W30. I'm game to try another (reputed) brand of oil, but it has got to be 10W30 mineral motorcycle oil.

If you ride a Karizma at or near the redline for a long period of time, especially in lower gears in city traffic, the engine gets pretty hot and the smoothness falls drastically until the engine cools off, even when mineral oil is used. If this is the way you ride your Karizma most of the time, perhaps semi-synth is a better choice.

Its been 800 kms since i switched to Motul's 30004T in 10W30 grade. The gearshifts are better and the engine is running as smooth as it used to with the HH stuff.

Id definitely recommend the Motul. Will post up at around the 1.5k-2k mark to update on the oil's performance at the fag end of its drain interval...
