Api sj sae 20 w 40 / 10 w 30 (jasoma)
Seniors,
i have a small doubt, HMC website says"Hero Honda 4-T Plus conforms to International specifications of API SJ SAE 20 W 40 / 10 W 30 (JASOMA) specifications."
So is 10 W 30 and 20 W 40 same??

Rashid, you need to search & lot in xBhp; this is the kindergarten question here; if they were the same, then why would the numbers be of any difference? For now, they're not the same. My request is, pls search this forum well before you ask any question as all this & beyond are more than answered.Originally posted by Rashid View PostSo is 10 W 30 and 20 W 40 same??Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Either I don't know English or your standards are way beyond what I understand!!!Originally posted by Rashid View PostI know they are not same, and that's not my question either
Originally posted by Rashid View PostSo is 10 W 30 and 20 W 40 same??Recently, HMSI & HMC have switched all their engine oil grades from 20W40 to 10W30; mineral to mineral, SS & FS to FS on their respective grades. May be the additives on FS are playing their part.Originally posted by Rashid View Posti am asking how the "Hero Honda 4T Plus (10 W 30)" conforms to both 10 W 30 and 20 W 40 as mentioned in their website here
I was challenged by HMSI engineer that their (CBR's) engine's never cook beyond 92 degrees & hence the oil is sufficient. I really don't know how far this is true.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

No single oil can meet two different wXX Grades, Like 20w40 and 20w50 cant be met by a single oil.
Hero 4t plus is marketed as 10w30 and 20w40 grades(now they are changing to a single grade now), just like castrol magnatec car oil comes in 5w30, 10w40 etc...

No, it wont void or even affect your warranty but dont tell anyone that you're using different oil.

Engine oil smelling of petrol
Guys, this weekend I had been to Pune for attending the Indian Superbike festival; the total trip was around 320kms (Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai). So, yesterday while I was doing a regular check-up, I found the engine oil smelling slightly of petrol and it had lost almost 30-40% of its viscosity. So my question is, what is causing my engine oil to smell of petrol and lose its viscosity??

may be engine blow-by.Originally posted by rossifumi46 View PostGuys, this weekend I had been to Pune for attending the Indian Superbike festival; the total trip was around 320kms (Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai). during long running at high temperatures, an air cooled bike develops some hot and some cold areas, if these cold areas are capable to cause angular distorsion of the cylinder, the oil starts going into the combustion chamber(most of the times) from the area where piston rings are not able to drag the oil back.. But sometimes fuel starts going into the oil chamber and there is decrease in oil viscosity.. When fuel is mixed with low combustible materials like kerosene or diesel this phenomenon is more prominant.Originally posted by rossifumi46 View PostGuys, this weekend I had been to Pune for attending the Indian Superbike festival; the total trip was around 320kms (Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai). If you are confident it was just a temporary distorsion due to overheating and not because of adulterated fuel, just go for engine oil change(immediately, dont start the bike with petrol in oil). Otherwise change both the oil and fuel.. If the problem continues at low speeds also, piston rinhs are the problem.

If you are not sure about purity of engine oil.. Use oils sold at
a. petrol pumps
b. at authorised service centres for bikes.. Yamalube 20w40 is as good as 20w40 from mobil..
c. at an authorised oil dealer.
