    i own a gs150r..the gear shifts are becoming very hard these days..i find it very difficult to shift down from 2nd gear to neutral or to shift up from 1st gear to neutral..this is the first time i am experiencing this..the oil i use is motul mineral which has run just 1000kms since previous change!
    havent seen your facebook link.. Oil should be going down in summers more than winters logically, if one grade is used in both conditions. But if someone uses 10w40 in winters and 20w50 in summers.. Winters may see drop in oil.

    Regarding gear shifts getting rough etc. Whats your ODO? If less than 10,000 kms its normal.. Use SS oil. It should solve your problem.

      i have recently purchased new apache rtr 160 which has done 500kms and its due for 1st service.
      Can i use the same oil TVS Tru4 premium for my rtr, or should i look in for some other SS oil.

        My suggestion to you would be to continue with mineral oil till 4k kms. Maybe after that if you're not satisfied with the tvs oil, you can go for a change.

          About valvoline premium 4T (costs around 320) that's also very good but in cold temperatures, gear shifts are heavy but not hard or even annoying and only after a kilometer or so it becomes smooth (read very very smooth & slick) motul & yama oil gets smooth just after few hundred meters.
          Does Valvoline lasts for same interval as yamalube and since my service interval will be 5k so will it last that long?
          Also is there a mineral oil as well which is as good as synthetic oil of 15w50 grade, i know i am supposed to use SS in KTM Duke but jsut curious as after lots of page shifting and reading i came to know that semi synthetic are basically mineral only i.e. the 30% synthetics in SS are highly refined high grade minerals which are called as synthetic, true synthetics are very costly like 300V. It was interesting to know and technically satisfying as it went long way in justifying why KTM recommended SS from DAY 1 as essentially they are just minerals but with as Muztariq jee pointed out with better hear carrying capacity ,

          also are there any other advantages of SS over mineral
          ? I hope detailed replies as usual as this whole field of oil is new to me and very interesting as well

          Pick whatever you like, you will be satisfied. But as you stated, temps will go down in next few months.. Grade wise I've seen 15w50 oil reduces cold start problem and also little stress from starter motor (in pulsars)

          So then i will stick with 15w50 though i am sure it will not help with start issues as there are none due to duke using Bosch FI

              I own a R15 v2.0 and I had completed 5500kms on ODO... Is it advice able to switch to Fully synthetic or mineral oil? If so Which one i should opt for?

              P.S: My service is due in next 500Kms... I feel the engine is bit rough and also the Gear shifts are hard...

                  you can definitely change to full synth, motul 300v 15w50 oil

                    Not sure about the changes in additive package, I said so because yamalube is API SM and motul is API SL (though older batch of oils are all API SL)
                    I Dont think ester will cause any harm. (after all motul 7100; a full synthetic oil is the recommendation) though theoretically speaking any synthetic base used, will start protecting engine internals much better than mineral oils (because of their awesome properties) and hence may "slow down" engine run in process. another fact is most high end cars & bikes comes "pre broken-in" meaning no run in/brake in required from the owner/rider, so may be KTM 200 is also one of them

                    whatever oil you use if its SS or mineral then change it at 2k kms max. at 2.5k kms. dont ever extend from there. your bike "will" thank you latter. being next service due after 5k, you can change oil by yourself (or get it done from anywhere outside svc)
                    Motul 3100 is a mineral oil, also available in 15w50 (but not an easily available one)
                    advantage of SS over mineral are; SS is not mineral (some% of it is synthetic afterall), more cleaning agents in oil called dispersant, wee bit better performance, smoothness, oil stability etc..

                    well am sure there wont be any starting issues being a FI engine, what I mostly meant is the strain on starter motor (very minor but still noticeable).
                    you'd notice it, with lighter oil bike starts with very tiny push of starter button (like, for half a second) and with thicker oil one may need to keep the button pressed for 1 or 1.5 seconds. (feels like battery is slightly low on juice)
                    this can also be felt with cars on real cold days compared with hot days.
                    I hope you'll come to understand this after using both the grades i.e. 15w50 & 20w50

                      • Hello every one.. I need a help..I am quite confused with the grade of oil which i should use. I have a yamaha fazer 9 months old and 11000kms done. 2500kms done on mineral yamalube 20w40 which is the recommended grade by the company. After that i changed to yamalube 15w50 SS. Now i want to upgrade to full synthetics. Preferably MOTUL. But i am confused on the grade... Should i use motul 300V (10W40/15W50) or motul 7100 100% synthetic 20W50.. Please help me guys. and please give reasons for the option that you provide. It will be really helpfull for a nobody like me...
                        some of my learned friends say i should keep the 20 in 20W40 constant and can change the 40 in 20w40 to any value....and some say just the opposite.. i.e change the lower value and keep the upper value constant..

                        The temperature at my place varies from 2 degrees in winters to 52 degrees in summer. And i do mostly long rides at speed of 80-90kmph for 80-90 kms at a stretch. Please help me decide...

                        • guys can you suggest me a good engine oil for my cb twister, My bike is going to cross 28k kms but still i dint settle with good engine oil. I'll change the engine oil by every 2.5k - 3k kms. What about synthetic oils

                            Less than 300 rs. - Gulf Pride 4T plus 20W40 and many more..
                            300-400 - Shell Advance AX7 10W40
                            400-700 - I think full throttle FS oil from Honda come in this range!
                            700-800 - Shell Advance Ultra 10W40
                            Above 800 - Motul 300V 10w40
