The water drops vaporised instantaneously without touching the fins really . I have seen this condition many times in my riding life , before I had trouble . So I switched to 20w40 as soon as I could and now using it on both my HeroHonda bikes, despite what they say . I read up all the theory after that .
Other than the heat , there was excessive engine noise & roughness and clunky gear-shifts . In my opinion, noisy-engine = much-friction = poor-lubrication = mucho wear .
Absolutely pinaki-ji. 'Spit test' haha nice ingenious way to determine temperature.

Which 20w40 are you using in your bike? How is the oil in winter? On particularly cold mornings?

    • Which synthetic oil for honda unicorn

      Hi everyone,
I use a Honda unicorn 2011 model which i ride from electronic city to Diary circle and back everyday.
While on move i go above 7000rpm for a long time, Please suggest me a good fully synthetic oil which i can use in my bike because now days i hear sounds while shifting gears and the engine get lot heated. Waiting for your valuable suggestions..

He is using Motul 3000 4t plus 20W40.
I am using it throughout the year and there is negligible difference winter,if the carburetor is tuned correctly.

Honda recommends 10w30 oil for the Unicorn now , but do check your owner's manual to confirm this .
In this grade and synthetic you can use - Honda Throttle 10w30 (504 Rs) and Gulf 4T Synth (300Rs) .
Since you mention the word "heated" - I suggest you should try a 10w40 instead . In this grade and synthetic there is Shell Advance Ultra 10w40 and Motul 300v 10w40 . Am not sure about their prices but they are as good as they are expensive .

Most of the talk here happens on what oil to use, but no mention of how to dispose of the used oil properly.
There was a post in FZ ownership forum that we just cant dump oil anywhere (drainage/garbage area) as it'll damage the environment

Would like to know the procedure that people here follow to dispose/recycle used oil.
Any helpful information on this would be appreciated.

I dispose all my used oils to a mechanic. He then sells it for recycling

most of us are giving the used engine oil to mechanics who either sell it further for recycling or use it to lubricate chainsets, clutch wires, stand spings, throttle cable etc etc.. Which gets washed in rains and meet the water table.. Though any normal grade oil, even cooking oil can be used for lubrication but many or rather all mechanics use a big part of used engine oil(which contain toxic polymers, additives, heavy metals etc.) for lubrication. Thats why I personally limit unnecessary wastage of engine oils. If you use a mineral oil - take atleast 2000 kms from it. And an fs - take 4000 kms atleast.
You should also know what happens to the used oil - read a publication from a US state recycling department. Most of the used oil in developed countries is detoxified and dumped back into mother earth. Shear wastage of money and energy consumed in oil extraction.

Thanks guys, will try the local mechanic until someone else comes up with a better suggestion.

Listed price around 950/litre. Some dealers sell it for 850.

In behalf of this post sir just want to ask if i can used 4T oil as a replaced to 2T oil i own a 1985 model honda dio 50cc (bore up to 70cc) engine is their any bad effect on the engine rather than smelly white smoke?

I seen an old mechanic here at our district he recycling her used 4T oil by filtering a couple of times then he put it in her 2T motorcycle as a replace to 2T oil i dont know if this can work fine in my scooter?

Pls advice as of i know 4T & 2T oil serves the same purpose in lubricating the wall of the cylinder so the piston ring will not stick to it and also the camshaft but it is not gona burn like a 2T oil( im not sure ) because its still produce smoke meaning that their is burning happening inside

I don't think a used 4t oil will have the required viscosity to protect the bore-piston in a 2-stroke engine.
A 4T oil will not burn properly, carbon and other impurities present in the old oil will be deposited on the piston and head.
As a result of using "used oil", bore life will decrease and piston-head will require frequent de-carbonization.

                              PS-Two strokers don't have camshafts.

                              • Engine Oil

                                Hi,
I bought Pulsar 200 NS. The recommended oil by company is Bajaj DTS-I 10000 [Grade : 20W50 API 'SL' or JASO 'MA'].
I got my first service at 451 kms. They used Bajaj engine oil.

But some how I seriously doubt the quality and durability of this oil. So, I was thinking of getting my oil changed at 1500 kms. And then go for 2nd service at 2500 km and then the oil will be changed again. Will this process be good for the vehicle ?

I want to know, Which Engine oil should I use @1500 and @2500 kms ?

This is what I'm thinking, I guess
@1500 km - Same Bajaj Engine Oil [as it will last 1000 km or so.]
@2500 km - Fully Synthetic Engine Oil [ Please advice which one? ]
