Motul 5100 Semi-Synthetic.Go for it.
I'm using Motul 5100 from the past 1 week. the engine, gears have become very smooth. Miss fire which was very frequent on my bike has reduced almost by 70%. So i would suggest you to go for Motul 5100 semi-synthetic.Originally posted by Dogg View Post

@Ram- dude my bike has become an oil guzzler!! had leaks from various places, mainly from the head and the breather pipe..lost like more than half a litre of oil there..got that fixed and changed the oil to power1...now the oil hasnt even lasted for 800kms man!!
anything on that>>? btw are u sure that a 180 runs on 20w50!? coz the bal mechs very very strongly recommend power1(even though they dont know shit bout synth. oils) my mech toh almost had a heart attack when i said i got a can of oil for 700 bucks...(hillarious experssion, 700 bucks vasoool) ;D

Rossi,
Don't mind - but your ignorance is massive. kindly read the manual- 20W50. Its on every engine oil thread on xbhp man!!
And did your head leak after Motul?
Is your P180 a v2?

DELHI PEOPLE
After a long wait of 2 months, Motul 5100 15w50 stock have arrived finally. The distributor said sometimes there is lack of demand and sometimes excessive demand, so result lead to No stock.
But who cares, I've already ordered 4 bottles(don't want to cry for it again) and soon will be delivered at my home.

its all about CC...

@Satish, what's that solid thing in the first pic? Did that too come from your engine?
Did you check the difference in viscosity between the used and new oil?
Colour is not the measure... oils are added with cleaning agents that clean your engine parts and hence the oil gets dirty...
And, to admit, when I changed the same oil at 3K kms on my R15, it was in similar colour (did the same test with new oil and drained oil) but there wasn't much difference in viscosity & slippery-ness.

Sorry for breaking the flow, but I was just about to post a related question. I changed the oil on my Avy about 2 weeks back and have driven only abt 350kms since then. When I checked the oil yesterday with the dipstick, it was pretty dark and dirty. The level was a bit low too (say abt 1mm-2mm less on the dipstick).Originally posted by HydBiker View PostColour is not the measure... oils are added with cleaning agents that clean your engine parts and hence the oil gets dirty...
I read somewhere that the color of the oil should not be used as a measure of when to change it. Is this right? Is there any other way to tell, like how the bike rides or the engine sound etc.
Should we simply change it after every 2k-4k kms and trust the oil to do its work?
Is there a way to flush the engine before the change to get rid of the dirt/grime inside?
Thanks,

You are right. I have read in some Engine Oil makers' documents about the oil colour not to be taken as a measure to judge its life. For one reference, I pulled out this link from Valvoline's website:
FAQ's :: Valvoline Cummins ::
Please check answer to the second Question. Even the first one is useful... gotta do a blotting paper test.
About flushing... well, engine oil is holding all the dirt & grime inside your engine... you have to drain the engine oil when hot and that itself is the flushing process... pls don't go with separate flushing fluids!
About oil level, did you measure the oil level when the oil was poured in? You need to compare your current oil levels to that and not to the top most mark in the dip stick. Also, you beter check the oil level when the vehicle is idle for over an hour.

to be frank i dont know how ppl check or judge the viscosity......i felt both the old and new oil in my finger.....the old oil felt a bit thicker!
I had a look at the oil today and wat u said abt the dirt was quiet true......i have attached a pic of it too.......only certain part of the oil had the dirt in my hand!07 HH Zma
