If its the same grade then why not. I guess the 7100 is fs and the 5100 is ss, if this is correct then imo the 7100 is a better oil and also the drain intervel would be more with the 7100.
Go for it but make sure its the recommended grade.

Do not worry about the review in that link, the 7100 would perform better in almost all situations compared to 5100. Its also the exact same grade recommended by Bajaj.
The synthetic oils have a lower tendency to break in harsh conditions like stop and go city traffic with our hot Indian climate, continuous highway riding. So, just go ahead and get it, the price difference would be negated by the longer drain intervel.

Oh boy lots of hustle and bustle here. Good to see thread warming up.

As I've stated in my another thread. 2.5k for a mineral and 1k to 2k more for SS and FS

One point I'd like to note is purchasing oil cans from a fuel station is a good idea, mostly, they are company operated and rest assured you can be they are genuine and they sell only their brands. It's not a matter of cars of bikes flooding in the station, but it's a matter of the availability of the oil and the grade one needs. If it ticks the boxes, then go for it. But before one does so, let them take a look at the stock itself, make sure the oil isn't old and at least they look fresh which are tell tale signs of how good the stocks are refreshed as such. If one sees dirty cans and dust settled on them, I'd suggest to chuck it for a better one at a better station.

                      Cheers!

What is the expiry date of an engine oil and brake fluid?

Is an oil good till it is opened no matter what the date of manufactering is?

After opending what is the shelf life of the oil. I use the remaining oil within 4 months of opening it and seal the cap by first putting some old polythense (folded multiple times) and then screwing the cap on it. I hope this seals of the oil getting in touch with moisture.

Moisture is enemy for brake fluid, as as thumb rule, once brake fluid is used, it must be used completely and sealed off tightly and kept in room temperatures, neither too high or low temp can cause water absorbtion on the fluid part and can make the fluid usless or even worse screwing up your braking performance and your brake components.

Engine oil on the other hand doesn't degrade as such, as engine oils do have good shelf life, but it's best to keep them sealed off tightly as opposed to loosely packed or closed. There is absolutely no problem using the remaining oil, provided it's taken care of properly. Oil attract dirt and grime when clumsily sealed and that can compromises the oil's purity and worse even lodge pieces that it has attracted inside the engine if one has bad luck.

Long story short, engine oil doesn't degrade as such, but yes they too have a shelf life after certain period, and that's really really long and taken care of they really last long. With regard to brake fluid, the sooner the usage, the better. The more it stays in the shelf, the more changes it gets degraded faster.

                            Cheers!

I using Motul 5100 for the first time after using yamalube (which I used to change at a interval of around 2200 kms)on my FZ. It clocked around 2200 kms on trip so my question is How may km's is the average life of the oil ?
As of now the oil had turned a bit dark but the engine is quite smooth though the sound had increased which is hardly noticable.
