Re: Engine Oils
15W40 oil will be thicker than 10W30 oil. You might feel sluggishness in the engine. Getting genuine Castrol oil is a task, owing to many fake Castrol products in the market. Any particular reason for switching to 15W40 oil?Originally posted by AmanZ View Post

Re: Engine Oils
I would suggest to use 10w 30 or max 10w 40 grades. using a correct grade is very important for engine.Originally posted by AmanZ View PostThe engine oil is genuine.. got it as a complimentary gift signed by John Abraham..

Re: Engine Oils
Good enough. Use it and see the response. As i have said in my early post, the oil will be thicker. So, you will feel certain sluggishness while speeding up. But, it wont do any harm.Originally posted by AmanZ View PostThe engine oil is genuine.. got it as a complimentary gift signed by John Abraham..

Re: Engine Oils
You can use both the oil on the Hunk. Hondas always prefer W40 in most cases, 10 would be better.Originally posted by AmanZ View PostHey fellas...
What is the engine oil recommended for Hero Hunk? 10w30 or 15w40...
10w30 the hero engine is used always.. thinking to give castrol 15w40engine oil a try?
Will that affect performance of the bike.. ?
Will the performance and smoothness improve or it will get worse..
Please explain.. not much into technical details.. layman's language will be better understood?

Gulf Pride's is mineral, and I'd suggest you try the Shell AX7 it being a semi-synthetic and AX7 Ultra is full synthetic, your bike will any of the AX7 series, personal experience.Originally posted by theridersclub View PostThank you mates for your suggestions... truly GLX125 is a workhorse.. about me 'I believe in performance modifications, not in cosmetic modifications

Re: Engine Oils
I have decided to change to Shell AX7 in my Victor GLX125
. Next will be Motul 5100. Tell something about oil top-up. is it ok to top-up a full synth with semi-synth/mineral? can we mix any of them?? my current oil is Castrol power 1 racing. result is good, but oil dried because of oil shield problem. run for just 2500km
.
Is there any problem if we replace the oil from full synth/ semy synth to mineral??Last edited by theridersclub; 09-23-2013, 02:13 AM.sigpic COMING SOOOOON.....

Re: Engine Oils
That is a good oil but if I have to offer a personal opinion, I would say it is better to run on a mineral oil with a drain interval of 1000-1500 kms or 2 months. It will be cheaper and will be easy on pocket and there is nothing wrong in using a mineral oil for a small engine of an Indian bike. Synthetics and semi-synthetics are good but their potential is actually utilized when you are dealing with 250+ cubic capacity engine.Originally posted by theridersclub View PostI have decided to change to Shell AX7 in my Victor GLX125

If you get good results with the Shell then I will humbly suggest you to stick with it. By changing oils, there is not a jaw dropping difference observed in the performance of an Indian bike with small engine. And if you read across this thread (specially few posts back) you will manage an idea about the mixing and all kind of stuffOriginally posted by theridersclub View PostNext will be Motul 5100. Furthermore, Castrol is a world renowned brand and it has eaten back its reputation in the market because of inflow of a huge number of duplicate bottles. So you have two options with castrol ....... either buy it from a known/reliable shop or switch to any other brand.

Re: Engine Oils
No problem. But try draining all the oil as the residue might not be good for the engine. Anyways you can feel the Engine Harshness if you shift from a Synthetic oil to a mineral oil.Originally posted by theridersclub View PostIs there any problem if we replace the oil from full synth/ semy synth to mineral??Royal Enfield Bullet Standard 350cc 1989, Bajaj Avenger 200-2009, Pulsar 200 NS 2015.

Re: Engine Oils
You can absolutely mix them. But not in equal amounts, but just a few 100 ML. Indeed I reverted back from Semi-synth (Yamalube) on my GLX to Shell AX7 and back to Yamalube, and there is absolutely no problem whatsoever mixing them both. For some reason, I didn't like the performance of the Castrol Power1 racing, though the engine note was the same, the gear shifts were cluttery, but cold starts and usage was butter smooth.Originally posted by theridersclub View PostI have decided to change to Shell AX7 in my Victor GLX125

But I'd suggest doing an engine flush before installing a fully synthetic on your bike after using SS amd Mineral, for a prolonged period. I've never used Fully Synthetc other than the Power1 racing. But personally fully syn is just an overkill for the GLX. You can use the AX7 or Yamalube, the bike will just love it. And currently my GLX is on Motul 3000

i searched this thread and found a few members discussion this.. the bold part.. on many, i found that the members said that engine flushing is not required if we change the oils the regular intervals and so the chances of carbon formation is minimum..
so should we really do the engine flush if we want to change from SS or mineral to FS..?? if so, why is it important..??
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Engine Oils
Think of it like this. You eat food almost on a daily basis, but some time or the other you flush your internal organs right (castor oil) right, if you've ever been though one, is merely not just flush, but to help the formation of new gut bacteria.. well enough of biology class.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Posthello..

That's the same way how it is to be done in your bike, too much everytime you screw the bike's engine. There is a period when the engine is *advised* to be flushed, not necessarily, a need but recommended, just to let those old sludge deposits and contaminants from the engine to be flushed out. Say around 20,000 KM or so, it's a good idea. Frequent oil changes from different brands and different grades isn't gonna deride the engine as such, but a clean engine before using a fresh fill of synthetic grade will aid in a cleaner engine, rather than a gunked up pathway.
It doesn't necessarily mean just switching to FS that needs flushing, but after a period of time, it's a good idea to flush.
Cheers!

Please read again your question .......... you are mixing two points in one !! What VJ sir has told is about changing from one oil kind to another. Where as what you have said (marked in red) is applicable when you are sticking with just one kind of oil.

Re: Engine Oils
well i have been on single oil, with the exception of just 500-600kms..Originally posted by xpranav View Post

else used only single brand of oil..
and i think they said its good to flush the the engine if we are changing from SS/mineral to FS.. so i asked them if that's necessary, as i read previous pages and found the following discussed there..
