Motul 7100 is the best oil I ever had on a CBR250R. 300v is good if you're taking a long trip or are spending a day on track, it is built for short periods of extreme stress on engine - but it disappears away too quickly. 7100 is what you should go for if your don't race. Motul 5100 is good too, but at 18K I'd go with FS if I were you. I also think as you own a Honda FS that you're already using FS on your bike?

It's technosynthese, that's Motul-speak for Semi-synthetic. And for 200 more bucks one can get 5100, a much better oil. But I guess that's subjective. Also, aren't all Motul 3K series oils made in India while 5100, 7100 and 300v imported? I know for sure 3000 is made locally. In that case 5100 seems even better deal since one is getting export quality oil!

That is strange. Motul site, along with all pics on Google image search say it's Technosynthese.

Dear frens, I am using motul 300v for my pulsar 200ns and its been 4 months and I have barely covered 1000kms. I know that the 300v holds good for around 5000kms but does it have a drainage interval according to time. Someone told me to change engine oil atleast once every 6 months even if you haven't been a mile cruncher. How much of that is fact? Please enlighten me!

PS- I did try searching the thread but couldn't find much help.

Oil like any stuff does tend to oxidate over time, it's kind of moot-point some say it's a rule to follow others don't, for I fall on the latter category. The idea is not intermittent usage, but long stops altogether for a month or so. But coming to common man terms, spending so much on an oil and draining it for non-usage is kind of naive in the first place. Considering you've already done more than 5k KMS on the bike, which is suffice to consider a FS, at the least.

Personally I don't think you'd need to change the oil unless the bike is idle for more than two months or so, complete 100% non-usage. Intermittent usage is just as good, but again as I said it's a moot-point, and purely a personal decision.

          Cheers!

2k is way lesser for any of the FS to go in. You can try the 3000T Mineral Motul or the 3100 SS for now, which are both budget based and right for your engine for the time being. You can consider FS at least after 6k mainly because you want your engine to set in.

Most people ask why is the gap for FS so extended? Primarily because mineral oils help contain compression and aid in the seating of piston rings properly, how and why? Since FS contain anti-wear additives in the oil, they to an extent reduce the *wear* of the piston itself which then reduces the overall set in of the piston and causes piston glazing over-time. So it's wise to use mineral. Mineral are petroleum based, but do not contain anti-wear additives as such which vastly improves the engine set in.

              Cheers!

Well I am at 8k in odo. Changed the oil at 7k. I do ride a few times a week or so but lately been out of station and its gonna be the same for a few more months to come. Thnks for the knowledge and I do appreciate your personal opinion. It'll certainly help me in my decision. Now I guess i'll have to google 'moot-point' and help myself learn a few more things.

No, it's SS and I got it for 300 odd bucks wholesale. I just took the bill out now, finally. The total bill is 3900 for 5100, 3100, 7100. And my previous post was misleading. Gone with so many oils, kinda fcuked up with the specs. Took the bill out, just to get the points right.

Yes, pretty much available. Shell bunks actually hesitate in giving us one. Come over to 80 feet road near Sanjaynagar while u go home. There is a stockist beside Maruti SVC bang opposite HDFC Bank.

As sinnerz pointed out, using a Diesel engine oil on a motorcycle engine is advisable and just make sure it meets the standards SL, which it most probably would do.
