Even though it does not last for 3000-5000kms, isnt it good enough for 1000kms? you get to change the oil frequently, and that is better too.. I dont think it gets burnt up or anything.. It costs 1/4th that of castrol.. 80rs to 300rs.. so we can change the oil 4 times instead The mechanic was saying that it is just a mental block, the yellow colored (not the red one) is pretty good & as thick/viscous as branded oils, but just packed in barrels instead of retail bottles..

    has anyone tried?
never use them. Engine oil is technology! not everyone has it. It is not the oil that protects the engine.. but the additive package.

If someone has no money left for oil.. and is willing to go for these oils, I have a suggestion for them:

If you want to use 100 rs/l oil for 1000 kms. Use a 250rs/litre Branded oil for 4000 kms. Running a branded oil for 4000 kms wont harm your engine as much as running 500 km on these oils.

Where does these oils come from? - Used oils > filtered > mixed with other low grade oils > colored > packed.

We had a discussion on used oils sometime back - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...-oils-590.html

I have seen elf oil refinery in navi mumbai - Its a million dollar setup. Their and other good manufacturer products cant be compared with locally made oils.

Serviced my hunk today...changed oil from stock hero to motul 5100 10W30. After 50kms of run I can say engine felt a lot smoother at higher rpm. Will provide more details after a month of use.

Guys a small doubt...can you directly change engine oil from mineral 10w30 to fully synthetic 10w40...or should you go to semi synthetic first then to fully synthetic.

Sure, you can go ahead with FS Oil if your bike has crossed 6k...otherwise try semi synthetic first and den swith to FS.

Please suggest the best oil for fzs,5800km run.
Type of riding- street and ocassional highway riding,no racing ,no stunting or no high performance.

I am thinking of upgrading oil from yamalube 20w40 because I think this yama mineral oil is not giving satisfying performance.Engine gets overheated, gear change not smooth, engine noise not good.

Shell AX7 is the best you can get in that grade, My friend uses that in his FZ-16,in fact it works good even on my Pulsar 220, though I don't use it anymore as it is lighter grade for my bike.

As getting a replacement 10w40 regular oil for my Ninja was difficult I went with Bosch 15w40, it has been running fine so far.

                    Hey guys,

So i have been a Suzuki Gixxer owner for the last 7 months, during which i regularly used the company recommended (Suzuki MOTUL 10w40 mineral oil, although manual lists other useable grades like 20w40/20w50). I recently did a 1800 km tripClick image for larger version

Before the trip i used a brand new 10w40, and post-trip i gave my bike for servicing. Now, after the service, i found they have used a MOTUL 3000 20w40 grade mineral oil. I asked them why not a company recommended 10w40, they vehemently claimed, this 20w40 is company recommended. After much discussion, i left being convinced that 20w40 is the standard, although manual says otherwise.

As for the performance, i can definitely feel an added degree of smoothness to the engine. Although the bike didnt vibe at all, even the slight vibe in the powerband has now been almost completely removed! Also, i cannot feel any discernible loss in pickup/power as people claim it usually happen when moving to more viscous oils.

                    I have 3 questions:

Question 1: Should i switch out to the regular 10w40 or continue with this 20w40. Iam aware, that the only difference made is in cold starts, as the more viscous 20 grade oil, needs the engine to warm up to circulate to all the parts.

Question:2 If this is acceptable, can i switch out to a MOTUL 7100 Fully Synthetic 20w50 oil?(i have clocked 6500km on the ODO). I plan to ride on extended highway trips atl east once in 2 months, and the engine does tend to run on the hotter side. So will this help?? Also, will there be any loss of pickup/power if use this oil, as the pump needs to work harder to push a more viscous fluid. Also, i tend to ride the bike hard.

Question 3: I used the regular 10w40 mineral oil for my 1800-km trip. During this, i ran the engine hard, riding at constant speeds of 85 -120. The engine was running extremely hot. I have read, that the oils tend to shear extreme temps, and leave deposits, on the inner wall of the engine. Could this have happened to me? i didnt feel any diff. whatsoever in the bike's sweet performance though. Any way for me to check/clean for the solution.

I have tried searching a lot online for these queries, but came up 0. Would be really great if you guys can help me out with these queries. Thanks fellas'!

#1 There won't be any difference in cold startups, I'm from Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand and it snows here, I never found any difficulty in starting my P220 using 20W50 grade oil.

#2 Grade is grade, xW50 is thicker than xw40, it might not circulates properly at all. You can replace x with any grade you want but later one should be maintained.
#3 That's true but the amount is very small, just use engine flush liquid next time you change oil and repeat the process every 10000km.

I will not be using an oil thicker than S.A.E grade 40, since recommended is 10w40. The current 20w40 is performing nice, although i might be imagining a slight loss in responsiveness. Have been asked to try a 15W40 mineral. Also, will try a Fully Synthetic MOTUL 10w40.

Thanks for the tip on the engine flush. Will check with SVC whether this was carried out.

Engine flushing isn't required. Avoid it, it is of no use with such minimal kms on odo.

Svc near my place charges ₹350 for engine flushing. Don't know how they would do it, never seen them.

Should one opt for it on the bike with 32k kms. ?

Today I went for 8th paid service to ASC. What amazed me guy making job card told me to put newly arrived engine oil in hero service centres which is synthetic oil and grade is 20w40. When I questioned him that recommended grade is 10w30 and it's written clearly in your warranty terms and conditions that using any other grade will void warranty then why your are offering me to put 20w40? He had no answer and it seems soon you may see these guys recommending 20w40 grade for your hero bikes. And no wonder they will start putting it in all bikes be it an old engine from Honda or newer ones that hero is developing... I guess so.... But if it's the case then why they used to create such fuss about 10w30?
