    • Guys, need a little help here. I don't have much knowledge about engine oils. I got my R15 serviced today(Chain sprocket replaced, cone set replaced, front disc pad etc.) I also wanted to change the engine oil but the guy by mistake gave me Motul 3000 4T Plus 20W40 which I think isn't suitable for R15.

Therefore my bike's engine oil change is still pending and I am searching if there are any other options available in the market other than the company suggested Motul 20W50 oil.

Is Castol Activ Xtra - 20W-50 oil suitable for R15? If there are any other options then please suggest. I'll be buying it tomorrow and will get it changed on Tuesday! Also please mention after how many kms should the oil be changed. Thanks a lot in advance! Sorry if this query has been asked before on the forum, I tried to search but couldn't find proper info.

      Waiting for your suggestions

Yup the castrol activ 20W50 is suitable for R15. Another option is you can try valvoline 4t premium 20W50. Oil should be changed after 2000-2500 kms.

BTW dont the SC guys have yamalube semi synthetic (15W50) atleast. Enquire about it & use it. Its a rebadged motul oil. I am amazed by the fact that the SC guys are not maintaining 20W50 oils. That too in mumbai. Havent you tried in other SC's.

A personal experience on Discover 135. I had used up 2 bottles of Valvoline premium 4T and performance of the bike with this oil is simply amazing. Engine sound has reduced in terms of decibels at all revs and bike is much more smooth. The engine has also become much more free revving. Its become very tempting to go till redline now since the vibrations are less. And the biggest improvement has been in gear shift quality. It is butter smooth. Literally (Initially I would accidentally change gears when going over bumps). And since I have used this oil over about 3-4k kms so I believe the performance would be consistent.

Is this product good enough? In terms of what is claimed on the website. I saw the website and its not Indian site. Any clues on where I can find this in Mumbai?

Motul engine oil is not out of stock here in SC.. I was just checking if there are any other options available..

All the below mentioned engine oils are available here except the 4th one which I have to check.. Can you tell me which one is better? (My riding style - Very little in city riding and mostly high speed highway running)

                  1) Motul 20W 50
                  2) Castrol Activ Xtra 20W 50
                  3) Valvoline 4T Premium 20W 50
                  4) Petronas Sprinta 2000 20W 50

                    1) Motul 20W 50 Most suitable brand for almost all yamaha bikes, If not all then atleast for R15
                    2) Castrol Activ Xtra 20W 50 Good. An ok kind of oil
                    3) Valvoline 4T Premium 20W 50 very much suitable with the pulsar breed. Although i have no idea about R15
                    4) Petronas Sprinta 2000 20W 50 has good reviews. It should be better than the others (not better than the motul)
Comments in bold. But i strongly suggest to use the motul.

Two bottles are for two oil changes. I had noticed this in first oil change but wanted to be sure about it and hence posted now. As for mileage, the bike is now giving 55-60 kmpl. Doesn't go below 55 though. I had earlier tried mineral oil 20W40 from Petronas (sorry, dont remember the name). With that oil, I got a consistent 65 kmpl. However, with Petronas, it would be near impossible to shift properly after 10-20kms of ride, thats when engine would heat up. Also, the engine made a lot more noise with Petronas.

With Valvoline though, the engine heat is less and the gear shift quality holds good even after 10-20kms of hard ride. So, I guess the oil is working well. The mileage isn't great though but I would be happy to know that the oil is keeping the engine healthy.

And yes, Mine is Valvoline Premium 4T. The one that retails for something around 300/-

                            • need your help guys.....
Yesterday i changed engine oil. I filled Motul 5100 15W50 in place of Bajaj 10000.
But the mech put a bit more of oil than required. The oil level checking window is showing full. The mech said there should not be any problem.
So, should i drain out a bit of oil from the engine or let it be.

                              • Mineral Oil for Pulsar 150 UG4.5

                                Hello Friends,

Well, this is my first post on XBHP, however, I am following the site for more than an year. Wanted to upgrade my 10 year old Splendor, to a bigger machine. Was planning for GS150r for all this while, but settled for Pulsar, as it suited me more .

I am looking for mineral oil (Grade: 20W50) for my new Pulsar 150 (UG4.5), which is due for its 1st service shortly and has completed 550 km. Can anyone please suggest good mineral oil (20W50) with "API SL or more" and JASO MA2 (as specified in the bikes' manual)? I could not find any mineral oil with API SL or more and JASO MA2.

Is MAK 4T Plus (20W50) a mineral or synthetic oil?

I have already bought Valvoline 4T Premium, reading all good reviews about it, especially for P150. However, as it is fully synthetic, am planning to use it after 5000 km.
