It don't harm like a snake poison but its a slow poison that may harm in a long run may be another 500 or 800 kms you may find some thing oddOriginally posted by k_tornado_sj View PostGuys i added around 100-200 ml Sae-90 Gear oil to my engine oil (valvoline premium 4t) and the bike has become smooth and quiet ...
mine is P-180 Ug3 16800 kms done
I don't think there is any harm in doing this ... am i right ?
every oil type has its viscosity example 20 W40 engine oil
if you mix 500 ml 5 -w30 engine oil with 20 -W40 engine oil the out come is not 20-W40 Engine oil rite, its some thing else
and the purpose of the gear oil is nothing to do by combining with engine oil both are made for different purpose and made up of different Minerals / chemicals
in simple one word the thing inside your engine is a cocktail not engine oil.
i havent tried this mixture for my engine or i don't think some one here tried that so cant guarantee it may or may not spoil engine.
but its good for your bike if you change the oil completely

What am saying is just from what i have read.Originally posted by kaynmantis View PostWas happy with CP1R as well as Motul 300v but they are hard to come by especially Motul at w40 as mentioned in previous post, hence Petronas. Say if you have used Petronas FS, would love to hear your comment. Could not find much comment about it except one guy who seems pissed off by it. Sure I'll soon find as I'm already using it but I need to put some mileage to comment on it.
I would be trying the petronas soon but now am using AGIP Racing 5W40 & hence i would recommend you the same. Its a very good oil. Engine is smooth & the pricing is relatively cheap. From the past 4k kms am using this oil & no issues at all.
I said to stay away from castrol & shell FS oils because they are not really synthetic as they claim. They are doped ones i.e. semi synthetic oils. They arent worth the 700+ bucks spent.

What you have done is just like mixing O+ & AB+ blood groups & injecting into a person needing O+ blood. The SAE-90 Gear oil is very thick one compared the 20W40/20W50 oils. It can lead to a jammed oil pumps. The smoothness you engine is experiencing is because of uneasy flow of oil.
The shell VSX is not a semi synthetic as it claims. But instead it is a highly refined mineral oil. But at its price point i would say you can go for it.Originally posted by Swaroopce View PostFor semi synthetic , Is shell VSX worth dude

My bike is new (just 8200kms on the odo) so i dint tried too many oils on it. But compared to the yamalube mineral (the previous oil used by me) its far better. Its got a lot of good reviews.Originally posted by Prabhakar150 View PostHow good it is when compared to other good options?

Yup! aware that CP1-R is group III base stock, nevertheless, my experience with it was pretty good. Could easily take me past 4k without issue unlike group II based stocks. At least Petronas FS is Group IV, so thats good news. But wondering if there's any catch as it is quiet cheap. Hope not. Btw it good to hear that there are people who are happy with its performance. If it suits my bike, I'm sticking with it as it seems to be easily available...err..at least as far as the shop keeper is concern.Originally posted by madhav krishna View PostWhat am saying is just from what i have read.

its good to change oil with in next 100 kms (recomended it but not mandatory)Originally posted by rylan View Postcould someone please recommend the best engine oil for yamaha fz 16...

use the yamaha specific grade oil
at this stage even castrol is fine as any way you are going to change it again at 800 kms
till you finish the first 5000 kms stick to mineral oil (again recommended if you are in a urge to go for synthetic then try it after 3000 kms)Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Guys small help.....
Guys , My bike is drinking oil , but at a very small rate(@ speeds above 70)....(Piston rings have to replaced) Which i will be doing after my exams get over next month....
Now , can anyone tell any options for :
1. To keep engine cooler ..
2. Not bothered abt smoothness but engine shd be cool....
3. Also , if i put thick oil , will the oil consumption reduces ?? Or shall i stick to mineral oil (as my bike is drinking) and change every 750kms ??
4. Currently using 15w40 oil castrol power 1 .
To keep the engine cool shd i use mineral/semi syn/ synthetic oil ??
If i use 20w50 , will it help ??
Whatever grade you guys suggest , pls also tell the brand and price..
Sorry for so many q's ... but its urgent.... Thanks ....

Is there any data or write ups which tells Shell and castrol FS are not FS but SS? Since these are such a big companies i don't think they could sell SS as FS.---------------------

It says that the oil is made from hydrotreated slack wax (group 3) & synthetic esters (group 5).
Am not able to find a data sheet for the castrol(It doesnt provide any) but it is a SS oil & not an FS.NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

I read it in this thread only long back. Someone had posted a news article that stated that castrol used SS oil and branded it as FS. I guess there was some lawsuit against Castrol in US as well. Dont remember much of that post but what I recollect is that Motul is probably the only one that makes true FS oil (300v). Rest are all closer to SS than FS. Sorry but I couldnt search that post in this thread.Originally posted by shamanthnv View PostJ Is there any data or write ups which tells Shell and castrol FS are not FS but SS?
